Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

So... Oliver not coming now? Is this official or just the word... I honestly can't keep up 🤷‍♂️
Reports that Melbourne plan to keep him.

Seems like a bit of a dumb move to me - he won't thrive in Melbourne's environment and he won't be there for their next flag tilt.

Get some value out of him and clear the cap space for a free agent or two.

Love this bit of mental gymnastics:

"But according to Edmund, the Demons will “shut down” a potential Oliver trade at the club’s best and fairest on Friday night given the difficulty of getting fair value in return for the 27-year old, who has six years and $8 million remaining on his contract."

Fair value on an $8 million albatross isn't what you think it is, Melbourne.
Edmund has a knack for "going early" in an attempt to get his nose in front of the story.

I'm not placing too much value on his observation until I hear McClure / Jay Clark / or Tom Morris change tact and head in the same direction.

In fact, Edmunds comments didn't provide any real substance with respect to Oliver even turning up to the B&F. Aside from all the garbage that his club has served up - look at it from the players perspective. He's expected to turn up to a packed B&F after publicly being reported as having met with opposition club and key players 48 hours earlier. That makes for a very uncomfortable situation in anyones language.

With Gary Rohan delisted, we need to replace our redhead.

Previous redheads -

Cameron Ling
Tim McGrath
Barry Stoneham
Neville Bruns
Darren Forssman
Damien Bourke
Tim Bourke
Marc Woolnough

I think Oliver would fit right into the space..

We are still lacking some 'nude nuts' though, they have all been replaced with 'blondes with headbands'
Isn't Conway a ranga, or have I just offended a bloke twice my size and 10 times as fit?

You're absolutely right there. Hrmmmm! Guess we'll see what happens.

Yep, I don't think I'm buying it just yet. Makes all the sense in the world to pour cold water on it for the moment, get through the B&F, and then the "fluid situation" take another turn when trade week actually kicks off.

The Geelong Player Styling department is yet to appoint a manscaping artist. Thank you, your suggestion is valid + will be addressed at our next acquisitions meeting.

Wouldn’t fly in the corporate world, it’s called a fire sale for a reason, you are dumping a diminishing asset or a whopping amount of debt you’ve lumbered yourself with for the next 6 years.

Take the hit, and the pain and write it off.

You’d think a team with a few accountants and lawyers as members would know a thing or two about good financial management.
I remember when we were trading for Jack Steven and a stkilda supporter mate of mine was complaining about the potential trade.

He was saying he is worth a first rounder blah blah. He finally came round when I said, it doesn't matter what you think he is worth, we don't want him if it costs more than pick 50, that's the only scenario where it provides any interest.

I'm confident Oliver will be better than Jack Steven but it's the same scenario in terms of want, if he costs too much we don't want him.

It's only of interest to us if he comes at reduced wage or trade cost. Now either Melbourne want to keep him or not but it's not our job to resolve this shitshow they've created.

Disclaimer: I have not watched a minute of him, but could Lachie Sullivan be someone we kick the tires on? Probably not, but mature body and strong performer in VFL. Played 10 games for Pies this year, doesn't sound like he has a deal in front of him necessarily. Feel he'd be a very cheap depth option.

Kolo just needs to accept that he’s lost it.

Happy if latest Oliver reports a true.
We can focus on bringing in the one true asset we desperately need in the midfield . . . Smith.

Wouldn't mind bringing in another ruckman. Braydon Preuss could be a good option. Get him for cheap too.

WHAT THE ACTUAL ****

I WILL CARD THE CLUB...

GO CATTERS
In this case, I think JJ has his wires crossed - here's the official list of current list changes as per the AFLs website and there's no mention of Clohesy

If he's not already on the senior list, I can see the wait on a new contract being more about how many players we bring in over this period and where the list spots are - does he stay as a rookie or does he get elevated, rather than waiting for another couple of weeks to delist him on his own

Pffft but it's easy to get clearances when you're not competing with any of your team mates for them 🙄
Absolutely. And a formality to rack up that many tackles when your team's getting beaten around the contest as well.

Just like all of this bloke's career, massively overrated when you consider it objectively. Only got to 350 games because he was running out there with a struggling club the entire time.

So that means Battle is getting paid close to what we pay Cameron..... :tearsofjoy:

The reported Perryman offer from Collingwood was approx $900k per season which was reported as more than the Hawks offer to Battle - so the speculation this past week is that Perryman would net GWS a Band 1 comp, but St Kilda may have only got a Band 2 comp

Not sure if the AFL took pity on St Kilda after their whinge the other night but they got the Band 1 comp they weren't expected to get
