Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Some context:

I wasnt really have a shot at people living in a city. I have lived in Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney (inner city) and none is better than the other.

I was simply saying, those who are bagging Geelong may not necessarily have that good a living situation themselves (where ever they may live). And adding to that, they are confused as to why wealthy AFL players are choosing to come here, as it doesnt match with their impression of what Geelong is (in the circumstance where they think that Geelong is a terrible place to live). However, for wealthy footballers who have been lured here, it is a playground as they have nothing but free time and access to enjoy the best of the coastal/farming region, without as much scrutiny.

I don't think they're bagging the property aspect - it's more the town itself, nightlife, shopping etc.

So big question now if Clayton is off the table what does that mean for the asking price for Bailey Smith, do the dogs now be assholes and push for our F1st along with this years 1st just to be difficult?
Currently, it's our first-round pick at 16. The problem will be if the AFL gives a first-round compo pick for Battle and the other one, that would push us out further and the Dogs won't like that.

To be fair though, bringing in Clayton Oliver would automatically cancel out any gains Bailey Smith helped us make in the attractiveness arena. 🙃
😹 😹 😹

While you have a point, Geelong has addressed this worrying concern. You may recall my recent appointment as the Director of Player Styling? Am pleased to announce the appointment of world renowned personal stylists:

Quick question. Why are we posting dribble in this trade forum about the virtues of living in Geelong or elsewhere?

WHO CARES

Can we just stick to the views and analysis on trade related matters so the rest of us don't get bored to our back teeth.
Any updates on Oliver situation and where it currently sits?

Do you still think this deal will get done?

They are going to want more than our first regardless, i dont disagree with them if thats the case, a F2nd as well would be my guess with a F3 coming back to us.

His fourth game of league football (at the grand old age of 18) told you everything you needed to know about whether Sels was going to be a player.

25 disposals, 9 tackles, and 8 clearances in an otherwise miserable effort from almost the entire team was an extraordinary effort. And one that he backed up for another 350 games or so after that.

Pffft but it's easy to get clearances when you're not competing with any of your team mates for them 🙄

Yeah that's what shits me with compo. It reduces our already shitty trade/draft hand.

It's particularly bad when it's "compo" picks for poorly run clubs.

They will push for more because they know we have currency, will be interested to see how its dealt with.

Consensus it appears that it will likely be pick 15 plus something. Maybe an F2 or F3. I think it will probably land somewhere around there. He’s uncontracted so they can’t drive too hard a price.

I only know what's been reported which I think can be relied upon pretty well given Melbourne are leaking like a sieve and a couple of the leading journalists have good connections and intel from both clubs.

Oliver wants to get to Geelong > Geelong want Oliver > Melbourne are all over the shop and there are mixed messages.

I do agree that the B&F tonight will be a bit of a PR job and Melbourne will not want angst from attendees. So I suspect they'll put on a strong show of support for the player - then when the sun comes up tomorrow they'll go back to finding ways to move him on.

They delisted 5 players so will have at least 4 but not sure of exact numbers.

Looking at their list of 5 players delisted, Domanic Akuei was a Cat B rookie and Alex Mirkov was a mid-season draftee so not sure if he was still on the rookie list - they've cleared a few players but not sure how many off their main list

Love this bit of mental gymnastics:

"But according to Edmund, the Demons will “shut down” a potential Oliver trade at the club’s best and fairest on Friday night given the difficulty of getting fair value in return for the 27-year old, who has six years and $8 million remaining on his contract."

Fair value on an $8 million albatross isn't what you think it is, Melbourne.

Isn't the Irish player Cillian Burke coming in as a Cat B Rookie, or do you think they'll just draft him directly?

With Gary Rohan delisted, we need to replace our redhead.

Previous redheads -

Cameron Ling
Tim McGrath
Barry Stoneham
Neville Bruns
Darren Forssman
Damien Bourke
Tim Bourke
Marc Woolnough

I think Oliver would fit right into the space..

We are still lacking some 'nude nuts' though, they have all been replaced with 'blondes with headbands'

I see this as probably the most likely. But If we trade our F2, I assume that would preclude us from touching our F1, which would likely be in discussion for any Oliver trade.
