I think Fogarty over Sam Taylor in 2017 was one were a lot on here probably were closer to right. There were many said ..lets draft a Taylor to replace a Taylor.. ..but its few and far between… and we could hardly whinge about the totality of that draft

Nah that's not true. At the time this board were extremely happy with Fogarty and Constable in that draft. And fairly happy with Kelly but some questioned his age. See the live draft thread here:

We will fair dinkum have the best midfield in the comp next year with kelly to slot in from round 1 and constable in 2-3 years just need to fix the fwd line.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Hoffmann (and Cole) go on to having very solid AFL careers after my most lolled team “The Aints” could have had them both but decided against it.

One would think with Cole’s attribute he still has time to work on what ever he has been advised he need to work on..especially with what he already can do ..2K time etc. I that vid ...Hofmann has been working on his disposal… Is that the reason that they went past him? Probably still plenty to do but its not always about what you cant but what you can ..and he looks a very likely type to me. Here hoping he becomes the 10 year annoyance for them.

Go read that thread I posted. There's literally not a single negative post responding to the Fogarty selection. Taylor is basically not mentioned in the whole thread.

I agree ..more than comfortable… and all could fail. But ..one or two could easily have the non drafting mouths scratching their heads again…. If Hofmann becoms a players for us then there will be a tidal wave of effluent that will rain down on the Saints.

Added a couple of guys who could be rucks. , a few options as marking forwards , a HB , and a couple of mids.. good mix and so geelong in that its a no name mix. Others with the picks will continue to pick the names … we will sort thru the fodder trying to find potential, looking for value amung the over looked ..and ultimately try to make the names. Some will fail for sure..its just maths .. but find one or two and plenty will be crying tears of salty blood.

What was the deal we tried to instigate for Shanahan? Id pressume if we had managed to get him ..it would have changed our draft considably.

Our FF was offered to Tigers and WC and then withdrawn after Shanahan was taken.

That was the live draft thread. I think you’ll find in the equivalent thread to this one Taylor’s name mentioned. I for one wanted him. Wasn’t shattered when we took Fogarty though at the time.

Anyone else see the Lennox Hofmann article posted this morning in the Geelong Addy? Straight up hilarious how he basically shit on St Kilda throughout, stating how he's sad that Cole didn't get drafted, and how he was 'hoping the bid didn't get matched', as he was 'excited at the idea of going to Geelong.' Was apparently so stoked when he got through to us.

Think about that for a sec...aligned with an academy and told you're likely to go there...but then really happy that you don't.

This is why we're a destination club, and Saints are just the place where dreams go to die, lol.

Was talking to a few people yesterday that indicated that senior players really don’t like Ross and were dreading having to return to training
Also mentioned that draftees and managers were worried about being selected by saints

If true sounds like a disaster and a club going nowhere

Grimes was also a late pick from memory.

Hopefully the Hoff makes the Aints not matching for basically stuff all points look stupid.

What surprises me with Lennox Hofman looking at his highlights and that's he looks a lot better footballer than a pick 66 selection, so for that reason alone there's much to like and take a punt on.

He and Polkinghorne will be two steals from this years draft.

Shows a lot of AFL ready attributes, the kind that makes it easy to fit you into a defensive group. We like that defender that can shift between being a tall and a small. I don't think it will take long before he gets his debut.

I'm surprised how good he looks defensively. More the Guthrie or even Kolo mould than a Jordan Clark type.

Next years draft is looking good at the top end. Even taking into consideration the players already liked via academy. I think club were massively undervaluing those future first round picks.

People were running their mouths (looking at you Tugger fans) about how good this draft was…”It’s Deeeeeep!”

Completely missing the fact the reason it was “deep” is that the top end had no stand out bonefide ready to go superstar or star players (outside maybe Ashcroft who wasn’t available in the open draft anyway)

Honestly pretty much anyone from 1-10 could have gone first overall, I was genuinely surprised it was Lalor.

When you can’t get a consensus number 1 and/or 2 then you know that there’s a lack of supreme talent, just a lot of good talent.

We were smart not to panic trade, that’s why you always have faith in Wells/Mackie. They know what they are doing

I know a few Tuggers fans who are worried they are shit at the wrong time, they were hoping they would be shit in time for a 2001 or 2004 draft where theres players in the top 10 that are standouts, with a few people expected would become elite.

Instead they are worried it will be a 2002/2003 set of drafts, then Tassie come in with concessions and they will have a rebuild on the back of a weak draft.
