Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

When was the last time we had an elite player hit FA

Dangerfield this year?

Did Blicavs reach his FA year before we re-signed him or did we sign him a year early?

I think we have generally extended the year before they reach UFA, but the extension had only been for 2, 3 or 4 seasons - not crazy 6 or 7 years

I wouldn't say Dangerfield is elite but somehow his shadow with dodge strings is doing a great job considering.

But to clarify the question when was the last time we had a 25-27 year elite FA

The contact comes with the player receiving club (even if they chose to extend it) , the club which holds has a much stronger bargaining position.
I 100% guarantee Hill wasn't on peanuts(comparing the start to finish) in his first few years at the Saints like the end of his Freo contract was

What would have happened was he was on say 1mil a year for 3 years with Freo and the next 3 years were 400k.
So something like
yeay 1 1mil
year 2 1mil
year 3 1mil
Asks for trade
year 4 400k
year 5 400k
year 6 400k

When he renegotiated his contract with Saints i bet 100% he was on at least 900k per year.

Year 1 900k
year 2 900k
year 3 900k
etc unless the Saints frontloaded him as well which i doubt.

Which means Hill by jumping when the contract got low gained 500k or so a year Freo got shafted.
Nothing in the above scenario gives Freo more trade power.

Just like when we took in Bowes his current contract was null and void and he signed a new contract with us.

It's a fear reaction.

They're losing a bunch of players, they are scared that other stars will get sick of losing, and go. Back your club in; don't try and hold players in, and don't be scared of losing them.
Exactly, look what happened when we lost the greatest player of the modern era…..we won the flag!!!

With absolutely nothing other than a "feeling", I reckon that things will come to a head over the weekend. Surely Oliver or his management need to come out and either diffuse the speculation or alternatively re-commit to the D's.
'diffuse' (verb) - spread over a wide area or between a large number of people

I see what you did there...

The contract isn't null and void, we extended Bowes contact, and moved the money around. To make the deal Bowes would have agreed to take every little from the next two year.

So he initially had a 2 year deal
800
800

we extended it by 2 years
800
800
150
150

then smooth it, so it becomes
475
475
475
475

What St Kilda did to Hill contract subsequently doesn't factor into it. Freemantle have Hill locked in at the lower amount. At the point of trade they don't care if St Kilda are incompetent at negotiating player contracts, No six year deal at full wage with us.

They got pick 12, a future 2nd, Blake Acres with a swap of later picks. Depending on how you value Acres then, its a solid haul.

True but if has another terrible season his value with tank even more..
Plus if the leaks are to be true that the club and players don’t want him there it can’t be the best environment for him with his mental health

Is it really Worthing holding him to a contract in an environment that’s not going to get the best out of him and cause more harm?

And now a potential pay cut it’s looking more and more likely he’s going to land here now
