Rumour GFC 2024 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 3

Id be happy with a high ranking slider and trading in for it, if he is a gun. I've got confidence on Smith and the new Irish boy, are gonna be high end players. Adding another high end slider in draft, and a few speculative upside types + a mature ruck and mature utility would be a good outcome.

Bad news … as the revision they have done will do nothing if clubs do not bid on players. So yes they may need a few more points if taken at 5 like last might … or do the clubs just let an Ashcroft slip to 10.

I don't think the Ashcroft bid was beyond the pale.
Sure clubs could have placed a bid on him a pick or two earlier. Had he gone after Langford they'd be question marks. by the 4 names ahead of him aren't worse prospects.

Had a club placed a bid a pick or two earlier all it would have robbed Brisbane of is some mid to late 40s pick.

The reduced DVI of picks, and the discount being reduced to 10% will mess with pick cycling which lets teams gather an armoury of late picks.

I think as clubs are less able to afford matching bids, clubs are more likely to attempt to pry players away.

"I want a chance" …and then he is drafted by Brisbane..and he sits in the VFL? Geelong drafts him…does he get picked or just spend his time like Hardie? Is that what he really wants? Surely he need to be drafted by a club that he is a legit chance of getting a game. Rich have just run a train thru their list… one would think they could find a spot for someone like him while their young star picks … get some age and games..
I feel this is a bit of a Catch 22 for players like him.

The teams where he is most likely to be in the mix in terms of pure quality, are the same teams who'd be wanting to prioritize long-term youth and development over a bloke in his mid 20s.

You might get lucky and have a Mannagh situation, but it's not so easy.

I agree with all of that … but the discussion I heard by some commentators was they wouldnt want to do a JUH and make another teams kid ..#1… as it was telling your pick he was not your preference… Id think you could make that argument with every pick. Just like with Dacios .. he probably go #1 in an open situation which means to me the bidding does not really work… let alone giving them a discount on suc a good kid… In points what did they pay P6 or P7 or P8 ..?

And this is likely to happen again in 2025 with GC

I think history has show going to young …and not having a balanced side can be detrimental. Let say Rich took him as a rookie or what ever… it not going to worry someone like Hotton for the next 12 months.

Is it his age that is the real blocker? Something tells me if he was a ISmith outside running type at his age.. he might be more likely to get taken rather than a shortish inside mid.

The SPP was built for a player like him.

I'd rookie him just to prop up our VFL team. And if he does a Podsiadly then it is a win-win

TRADE TARGETS 2025

You can bet the Cats would be sniffing around players out of contract in 2025 and asking the question of mids including Matt Rowell and Finn Callaghan. But the club has already showed its hand in meeting with Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver over the trade period and throwing some of Dangerfield’s spare berley in the water.

If all goes well, Oliver thrives in 2025 and stays at the Demons. But having made clear its interest, Geelong could follow the format it used with Smith – push hard one trade period then strike the next. They would be crazy not to be asking about Christian Petracca as well even if he seemed keener to stay in Melbourne when he considered leaving the Demons.

Would absolutely love Rowell at the Cats in his peak, makes up for them taking Ablett Jnr off us.
Probably not the popular view, but of the names mentioned I'd prefer Callaghan.

The size, speed, and power of a Holmes - Smith - Callaghan midfield trio is pretty tantalising.

Would allow for some beautiful classic Cats attacking football through the corridor for the best part of 10 years.

Ralph is an annoying prig … start paint the story with failure.

He say we are3 interested in trading up yet the trust of the story is us after more in system talent … with what . Futures I presume. Both would take multiple picks id have thought. Id say in the unlikely outcome that both would want us … yes Id say I like Callaghan.. would add something like anotehr Holmes and what ISmith gave us.

If GC start playing and winning…I suspect Rowell who has been there thru the rough uphill … will want to enjoy some wining and probably stays. Its like North and LDU … my bet is they are really hoping for a lot more winning to convince him to hang in there.

Yeah it's just his game. He's not the only one, but that style of journalist really does treat it like a business rather than reporting information.

Plant the seed early, and until Callaghan/Rowell re-sign he can write article after article about our interest, and because we're a big enough club, he knows people are actually going to bother to read it.

Its not so much the story about Rowell/ Callaghan. … that annoys me. It was his pouring of the salt about PF loses ..especially enjoying the two Richmond wins (i wonder why  )

Who are the free agents next year … I like the idea of trying to move our 2025 pick forward. Some nice talent OOC in 2026 Cadman for one . The motorbike another.

I wonder how many times the words "10 years" appears in the draft thread haha

Not that I watch a lot of GC games but my impression is Rowell is living off the hype of his first season a bit, no.
Maybe a touch...but he is still one of the better inside bulls going around.

I'd love him cracking in and winning the hard pill and feeding it out to guys like Holmes, Smith and Dempsey for us.

Only 23 years old.

They will need 22 home games to be successful so I can’t see that happening
