No weights listed these days takes away a little side enjoyment I've had for many years following the progress of kids coming into the AFL it was a great way to see and appreciate the hard work they are putting in.Mind you I don't think over the last 8 or so year you would bet your house on the info being supplied being correct anyway.

It is also a shame that all video and photos get deleted off the internet every six months due to a lack of storage space in the cloud ever since Google and the rest of net went woke. Would be interesting to see how a guy like Neale has changed since we drafted him. If only it was possible.

Fairly underwhelming draft, but not much you can do with the picks we had. I’d be shocked if we didn’t pick a mature age in rookie draft for immediate depth. Would love Crossely from Southport, watched him live a few times this year. I know people bang on about being undersized, but he is as tough as nails and his contest work is fantastic. We could do far worse than have him sit behind Stanley and Conway. Was the highest rated player on the ground in nearly every finals match for the Sharks.

18 clubs and their footy experts disagree with ya...
Now that was getting on an AFL list.
The rookie draft might be a little different, we shall see.
FWIW. I didn't think much of him as he was usually playing against the skinny new kids on the block or old blokes that were way past it. So yeah he should have dominated being in his prime and all. Which he rightly did.

He won't get drafted since it is clear that he ate Motlop's vest and went back for seconds

Even as a card-carrying lefty, I find it frankly ridiculous that we don't have weights listed for super-fit athletes. I've literally never heard anyone complain about it.

Weight markers don't tell you if an AFL athlete is fat. I get why it might be really sensitive in AFLW, but in the AFL, it just tells you whether a player is heavy enough to play AFL.

From what I read into wells comments post draft he is clearly not overly thrilled with the draft haul and has put it out there very diplomatically already that they are Smokey’s and longer term projects. Didn’t really fill me with excitement reading his comments:

What the club says: "As each of our selections came up, it presented us with the opportunity to draft four different types of players that we thought would be a great fit for our football club. In the end we were able to pick four players who we think deserve an opportunity at AFL level, and we will get to work with right away to develop them and integrate them into our football program." - Cats recruiting manager Stephen Wells

Cloud storage is woke….I’ve heard to all now

I really don’t think the word means what you think it does

Could be wrong but I feel like he goes with that same monologue every year. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Players with more exposed form or Fox Footy/BigFooty endorsement were available and we chose not to pick them.

It means nothing, our rankings aren't necessarily the same as the publics rankings, or any other club for that matter.

I think that’s the point, he didn’t like the ones who everyone knew and went over with a fine tooth comb, so he went some outliers with less exposure and raw traits. I have read him more enthusiastic than that unless my memory serves me wrong

He always says that it's his standard quote.

Yeah, measuring weight or mass is anti-science and anti-progress. LOL

Should give Bluesky a whirl. Very refreshing and noticeably less bots/negativity….for now anyway
The MAGA/RWNJ are trying very hard to flood that site but thankfully with the choice of what context appears for you and the quick bans they are under control

For now ..like you said

Now that the draft/trade period is done and dusted, where do we see our immediate list deficiencies?

We seemed to have addressed our lack of ruck depth with Mollier and Pike.

Midfield class is probably still a concern albeit bringing Smith in should help. Still feel that unless Clark, Bruhn and Knevitt really go to another level then we will need to continue to add in this area. Particularly with Dangerfield in his last couple of years.

Another key forward is probably needed if you don’t think Edwards or Mollier will play that role. Polkinghorne looks a good addition and may work with Henry and Neale. We’ll see. He looks to have a frame that can add size quickly so might get games earlier than expected.

Agree on midfield. We’ve got a bunch of marginal guys but no one who is banging down the door, and an overall profile that looks pretty similar.

Watching the VFL last year was struck by how toothless we looked inside 50, especially when Neale and Mannagh had moved to the seniors, and the lack of HBFs. Hoffman helps solve the latter and presumably one of Ivisic or Retschko plays there as well. They got four marking targets for up forward but would like to have seen another small forward.

To some degree we probably need to again see what we have … Smith and a non core mid breaks into the best 22 and see what we have. 2025...Its a big year for those that have been around 3 to 4 years.

but on other other hand… the mid area is the never ending story. If Callagahan or Rowell or someone like that in system that walks into our best mid group signals interest then we would definitely try to add them and we would be back again to bargain hunting in next years draft.

I really like that since Hocking our age profile targets have dropped. Id say our mid group will get slightly better but still look average to good when compared against the teams we will be playing against Freo and Brisb who just got stronger .…. If we had a Ashcroft land on our list it would look a lot better.

It looks like Ivisic is the purest mid we added in draft. Can Ivisic do more than join our group of ordinary to good? We have added speed and stamina ..guys who have the foundation to play at the level. Its now up to them to make the most of the chance.
