Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

That’s a bigger haul than Carlton gave up to get Judd, and Judd was a proven superstar, you obviously rate Reid extremely highly
Judd was 10-15 years ago

The landscape now is different

Yes like everyone else i rate Reid, but you need to lay through the tooth to move up ahead of bids let alone when youve got the best player the drafts seen for a long time

We can all use outliers to suit each others narrative ie Weller for 2 ect ect Higgins 32 years old for pick 30, Preuss for pick 30 ect ect

Richmond are the obvious team that should be going hard at the Suns to get into the first round.
We probably need to be creative with either points or salary packaging into how we'd actually get it from them though.
Would you give up Bolton for Pick 4? (Assuming he's open to the trade).

Dogs in the van surely?

Two first rounders for GC first rounders with some other moving parts around the fringes.
This is the most likely trade IMO. Could then on trade them for futures and more points if required.

It's a gamble because you're effectively hoping pick 4 develops into a Shai Bolton or better type player. I don't know enough about the top end of the draft to know if it's worth doing.

My general sense is I prefer to reduce risk, so I'd almost prefer a young player + a pick for Bolton or 2 picks for Bolton even if the single pick isn't as high.

Points and futures is all that will really work. Players and salary cap stuff won’t cut it / missed the boat on that last year.

The only thing that could change the players convo is Hardwick, but you have no one you’d be willing to give up for pick 5 - and vice versa you have no one to offer us we’d want for pick 5.
I don't think he'd get pick 5, but a cheap/free Dustin Martin would be enticing I'd think especially with Dimma coming on board.

I do know that the Suns and Tigers have a strong player trade/recruitment relationship, and with Dimma on board that might even strengthen if he identifies players he values highly for the Suns.

From memory the following have changed hands in some way

Prestia, Caddy, Lynch, Markov, Chol, Ellis, Townsend and there might be others I'm forgetting.

He’d have to be cheap because we’ve seen the ‘selling the farm for one big name’ episode before at Gold Coast. Certainly wouldn’t want to give up pick 4/5 for Dusty at 32 years old.

No I don't think he'd get that, but you never know what becomes available at trade time. Suns might split the pick, have another pick come in, have some players on the table, etc.

The Suns can't miss finals again, another year of "building something" just won't cut it. Not to mention, any club that could use brand/supporter/media/member building could benefit from Dusty, so I think he offers more than just on field where he could tangibly help the Suns play or win a final.

Dusty is famous for not doing media. Can't see him turning on the charm for the media on the Gold Coast as he coasts to retirement.

Any pick splitting won't happen until draft night, when it would be too late to trade them.

Much rather see him retire a one-club legend anyway.

Suns will trade out their first pick for points not players

Graham will be one the other teams might be able to get out of the academy without the club matching, depending on how early the bid comes.
Trading 4 for the bulldogs 11 and 17 brings the total to just over 5000 points.

Read is the tricky one, could get bid at 5 or 15 or anywhere in between.

After watching probably 8 quarters of the players all up and an absolute novice when considering drafting etc..

I'm going to take a punt at
  • Walter bid on at 2
  • Read bid on at ~10
  • Rogers bid on ~20

The suns will have to prepare for bidding much earlier for rogers imo (Twomey has him at 12)

Plan for the worst, hope for the best

If Hollands or Flanders get a 2nd and Sharp gets some later points then it wont matter as much

They are Twomeys personal rankings not his actual mock draft.

He specifically puts in a clause saying this doesn’t take into account where bids will come. I think Rogers will get bid on a fair bit later than 12.. just my opinion.

Oh no I know that - but bids are a touch weird because they’ll kinda come where the talent lies sometimes. So it’s not a draft prediction of course but a very soft indicator of where he’ll go.

I would have thought that Richmond's F1 would be one of the more attractive ones. They are also one of the teams who could look to trade an established player - which is what the Suns would likely prefer.

Too risky for us IMO, don't want to trade what could be a top 3 pick for pick 4 or 5.

We could be in for quite a lean year next year if the new coach goes into rebuild mode.

Yeh i understand that but you need to plan for the worse and hope for the best
