SUNS ROOKIE ATTRACTS RIVAL INTEREST

GOLD Coast forward Brodie McLaughlin only landed a shot on a list in February, but now more AFL clubs are keeping a close eye on his contract status beyond 2023.

The 25-year-old earned a deal for this season after being signed by Gold Coast during the pre-season supplemental selection period, following a meteoric rise from the fifth tier of the Ammos to the VFL and then to the AFL.

Since then, McLaughlin has emerged as one of the best mobile key forwards not getting a game in the AFL this year.
With Levi Casboult commanding the third spot alongside Ben King and Jack Lukosius in Stuart Dew’s forward line, McLaughlin has booted 34 goals from 12 games to lead the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal by three goals after 14 rounds.

McLaughlin kicked 5.1 against Box Hill at Heritage Bank Stadium on Sunday, following 6.3 against Geelong in round two, 4.1 against North Melbourne in round five and four other sets of three in his first season at the Suns.

Fremantle and St Kilda were understood to be two clubs that monitored him during the pre-season before he was offered a spot at the Suns, while Hawthorn, Richmond and West Coast could be in the market for a mobile forward in October.

McLaughlin is settled in Queensland and believed to be keen to remain at the Suns, but it yet to secure a deal for 2024.

We will have Faulkhead back, looks like you wasted more talent.
Haha. Wasted?
The kid has been at the club about 12 months.

He came to the club built like a cross country runner. Has had 1 preseason. Needs more before he is anywhere near ready for AFL.

Has improved this year but probably 8th on the wing/half forward depth chart for the AFL side.

Ainsworth, Hollands, Oea younger group playing that role.

Ellis, Swallow, Holman, Atkins more experienced group also rolling through.

We’ll lose Sharp so would prefer Faulkhead stays for another year to see if he can get close to the level.

If he leaves I won’t be losing too much sleep over it.

Suns will need to use that first for points

Dont think theyll be in a position to trade for next year or for a player

Theres a chance they need over 4000 points for these 3 players

Unless they finish 8th, then of course they need less points

If the Suns finish 8th they will need to find a way to trade back into the first round after the Walter bid.

Why can't Sharp, Davies and even Brodie McClaughlin get a game? These three interest me

A few guys who have been loyal servants may look elsewhere for a game next year as well. Fiorini, MacPherson, Lemmens even. I d
Sharp is as good as gone, will be back to WA, either Freo or WC will pick him up.

Davies will have a role going forward, only in his 3rd year and has played 8 games this year, has not been starved of opportunity.

McClaughlin stuck behind Lukosius, King and Causbolt for a spot, wouldn't mind him getting a look in but he would be back in the pack.

Fiorini has played 14 games this year and is currently playing in the team, don't think he is missing out, probably our 18th-22nd best player.

MacPherson has been an absolute revelation this year playing in defense, has played every game and has a role in the backline sewn up.

Lemmens came back from a hammy a few weeks ago, after this past week and defensive efforts, I would say he is a decent chance this week.

Welcome Jason Castagna and Kamdyn McIntosh

With news of the worst kept secret in town (Hardwick) breaking, you imagine the likes of Ben King now extending beyond their current contracts might follow in turn …

Would love davies at the dons but suspect him being a northern boy and as you say, still developing, unlikely he goes anywhere.
