With 3 of The top 15-20 draft prospects this year from the Suns academy, how many points do they need to able to snag them all ?

Someone is going to get a bargain, Sharp is probably going back to WA it seems, and either one of Flanders or Hollands is probably going to be traded too.

About 4,300 to 4,400 I’d say, assuming Jed goes pick 2.

If North get either a first round PP or band 1 compo for McKay, I think we may look at a live trade of 2 for 5 and the Suns F1. This would mean they would get a player before the Walter bid and by pushing back the bid need fewer points to match. We would still take two of the top five live picks and a gain a future first.

I don’t think we need more young talent. We need more role players.

Reading through a few team pages it looks like a fair few feel they can win this pick over (currently pick 5) as Gold Coast need points for its 3 Academy players.

Overdue for a thread of its own.

To kick things off what can top Dees hand in P17,23 and 35 for points (without having to tap into 2024).

Don’t need another kid, we will be bringing in at least 3 as it is, we need an A grader entering his prime

Is there a possibility the sun's package up their picks to get ahead of the Walter bid? Possibly if North get gifted a band 1 compo for McKay.

We have stockpiled points and with players such as Sharp and others traded out we have all the point we need. Pick 5 more likely to be used to secure an A grader if one’s open to coming.

If you can only use as many picks as you have spots open, does that mean GCS would use all the live picks on the 3 academy players then with the remaining list slots take 78, 79 and 80?

The Suns need two things, on going points for Academy bid matching (assuming the current system isn't changed) and best 22 players. There are enough talented young players on the list and coming through the Academy.

If Melbourne (or another club) really want pick 5 what players would they give up that would be best 22 at the Suns?

And what players would be willing to go to Gold Coast? remembering that their salary cap is very tight as well

Lots of permutations for Gold Coast, the pick probably won't be traded out until just before the draft

While they need points for their academy kids (prob 4-5k), imagine they'll be trying their hardest to get in some late picks to cover. Pick 5 too valuable to just downgrade if they can avoid.

Trading it into next year with a low ranked team (i.e. hawthorn) or getting an established a grader pretty tempting.

That's the issue really. It's catch 22, players don't want to go there until the Suns are seen as a finals team (like Brisbane) but without an A-grader coming in it becomes harder to get to that level.

Agree that a pick swap won't happen until draft night, gets around the list spots issue.

Especially if Flanders leaves, I'd think pick 5 is far more likely to be used for either
A) Dumping Fiorini (I hope not, it's the worst option IMO)
B) Getting a very good player
C) Moving the whole pick to next year

If I'm GC at minimum, I want to move at least some of the value of the pick into next year, supporters on here hoping to get the 3-4 junk picks for more points for 5 I think are going to be disappointed. GC have enough picks as it is

What? If they trade up to #2 then they can take somebody else and then someone else will bid on Jed.

Best case scenario for Gold Coast is West Coast overtaking North and then making a deal for their 2nd.
I think there is normally a critical mass of talent you can take in in one year before you gets serious diminishing returns. GC have basically 3 first round picks this year. Moving up to 2 is going to cost them a future 1st, are they better off having 4 first round picks this year and none next year or 3 this year and 2 next year? I dont think many clubs get good returns on more than 3 1st rounds picks in a draft

Yep. If I was Essendon I would come with a future first plus Thier current 2nd rounder. Suns lose points this year overall but retain a strong hand for next year.

Essendon likely to only use 2 live picks so the 2nd is easily tradeable.

That's what I personally think it's going to be. Whichever bottom 8 club has the most valuable future 1st plus one pick in this year for a couple more points. It makes the most sense value wise
