Oh my goodness!

My voice is absolutely hoarse - I was jumping around like a madman.

I didn't get there until the 18 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, just in time to see Danger miss his set shot for goal. We were 6 odd goals down. I take my seat with my lady friend who has never been to a footy game before and we start piling on the goals. "You're a good luck charm!" I said to her. We start running and the next thing I know we're right in it.


When Petrenko marked before the siren to have a set shot I told her that he would miss the goal....


Now I didn't see the 1st quarter, but I'm gonna guess that the 3rd quarter was a lot like the first? Frustrating! Thank you Sam Kerridge, kept us in it with the 3 goals for the term.

Last quarter, after Wells scores a goal to make it 30 points after a horrible kick-in, I mentioned to my lady friend that if we are going to win we are going to have to pull out some magic out of our asses. It's important to note that I never once conceeded victory. Forever an optimist, I am.

Once we were within 3 goals I started yelling out that North are going to choke again. I repeated it ad nauseum. And do you know what, the North crowd around me had a look on their face like I was right... They were tense, and they were quiet.

When we were two goals away, another Crows fan a little bit infront of me started chanting "TWO MORE GOALS - ONLY TWO MORE GOALS" - I made some more choking gestures. I thought we had blown it when Petrenko kicked a banana point (LEFT FOOT?!) - But it turned out to be the magic point, the golden ticket of bliss -

I have never lost my shit so much at a game. It was so goddamn exciting and this is the kind of game that turns seasons....


It was also the first time I've watched a Crows win live since Carlton in late 2009 - The magic Burton mark. Yeah, that's right. The last time I've witnessed a Crows victory, Burton was playing.

Good
Kerridge's disposal early wasn't too good but without a doubt was incredible after that. Took a 6th game to win us the game.
Douglas = Machine. Unbelieveable effort and capacity.
Danger worked hard.
Lyons, McKernan, Pet's last quarter, most of Vince, Thommo, Jenkins, and a few others.
We won in match that will not be forgotten.
Norf lost. I do not like that club, or that Lindsay "im out because the game is in the balance" Thomas.

Bad
Once again we gave a big lead early.
Inaccurate kicking

VB was not good, to say that I don't trust the ball in the captains hands is a worry.

Good

Douglas - he was the team. What an incredible game. It felt like he was the instigator or finisher behind every bit of good play we had.
Kerridge - holy shit. Mongrel hooks around the corner all day. SIX STRAIGHT. The Kedge has the midas touch; Kedge ain't got time for points.
Vince - I thought I was watching Green Bay Packers whenever Vince kicked the ball. Amazing passes into the tightest of windows. There are so few players who can do what Vince can.
Talia - outstanding game in defence. It's kind of sad that fricken DANIEL TALIA is the guy I want to see with the ball after it hits the ground. Did a couple of game saving pickpockets. I reckon he's underrated; everyone knows he's a rising star winner and up and coming player. But I think he's already a star and close to our most important player.
Lyons - huge second quarter. The team's down in the dumps, 36 points behind. Lyons gets shifted onto the ball. Nekk minnit we're back to within 10. He's such an almost player right now. It's good that Sando is backing him in - given time that second quarter performance will be stretched over the whole game, the shot he rushed at the end of the third will go through.
Danger - Enormous lift to bring the side home. The type of thing you would expect from a captain.
Petrenko - THE SEVEN POINT PLAY. All planned.
McKernan - I actually liked his game, not just relative to McKernan's low standard. He looked really composed; in his tackling, his hit outs, his movement through traffic, his kicking. Maybe it's worth trying him as a sole ruck again. We're not going to win the hit outs but maybe he can make up for it around the ground.

Bad

Reilly - how many times did he throw the game into the toilet? If North Melbourne weren't the worst chokers in professional sport they would have directed the ball to Reilly once in the last 5 minutes and won. I hate how we're so happy to see him play mediocre in the loose man role. Of course Brodie Smith and Andy Otten get the job on the in form forward Lindsay Thomas. Imagine how well Brodie Smith could do if he were allowed to play the loose rebounder with a lockdown defender in his place.
Van Berlo - woeful. Replaceable - both as a midfielder and a captain.
Sam Jacobs - not even sure what can be said. If anyone else was subbed out we would have been thrashed. Hell, if they didn't pull the sub earlier than usual we would have been thrashed.

Ugly

Ziebell will go. He left the ground and made contact with Lyons' chin. What sucks is he has all this bad record loading from that bullshit decision last year. The worst MRP decisions have a funny way of compounding themselves (like with Tex last year).

Richard Douglas. Outstanding. I've been a big knocker and in the past he was deserved it. But this year he has been great and today kept us in the game when most of the team was shit. Can not believe some on 5AA didnt give him a vote.
Sam Kerridge: You little beauty. Showed poise of a 200 game veteran and won us the game.
Danger: Average game but his last qtr was unbelievable. Had over 10 possesions, I lost count. Captains effort.
