Probably the only console there is we kept the best side in the league to 59 points. That said, we pissed away a big statement win.

Good:

Soligo had a big three quarters. Hopefully he's not injured as that sub was mind boggling stupid.

Pedlar stood up and made plays. Is building nicely into the year.

Jones really cements this run of form with a 20 and 2. Could have easily got 20 and 4 as well.

I thought we defended stoutly. Not only the aforementioned 59 points, but our continious ability to stifle Collingwoods break aways. Doedee, Butts, Murray etc all had their moments.

Dawson played a big game.

Thilthorpe had an influence around the ground. Shame he wasted that shot.

We gave the blueprint on how to beat Collingwood at least.

Ugly:

How we handled that last quarter. We played it terrified of Collingwood instead of properly.

Goalkicking, and honestly, with that last quarter went, did we put too much pressure on ourselves to get that fast start?

Nicks had the first game in a long time where he was comprehensively outcoached. The sub was a terrible call as Soglio was one of the leading mids. Not only that, but playing your star mid in Dawson as a loose defender when it mattered reeked of fear.

There are positives there in that game, but yeah, pissed away a big statement win.
Nicks shit the bed. The result is directly on him.

Didn't play to the conditions from Q2 onwards when it started getting a bit slippery

Played our same way - lots of short passes/leads, lots of handballs around the clinches. Has been working other weeks but became unstuck/messy tonight

Needed to keep it simpler. Collingwood more prepared to soccer or knock it on into space

Also brutalised at stoppages.
Still managed 6 more scoring shots.

This club is really hard to barrack for.
No it’s not. Far out, we were up against flag contenders and very nearly won that. Our lack of composure (and shit goal kicking) and their incredible self belief are what did us in. That would have been a very exciting game to watch as a neutral. Unfortunately for us it was a bit shattering.

Nicks last quarter tactics.
We fight and scrap and claw all game, get 14 points up in spite of schoolboy goalkicking (an insult to schoolboys, btw), then Collingwood kick a goal, Nicks pees himself and goes all defensive.
That stops us in our tracks. It stops us from doing everything that we did to get 14 points up in the first place.

Instead of sending messages out to attack, attack, ATTACK, Nicks sends the message to play meek, defensive footy.
Nicks needs to grow a pair.
The goalkicking was crap, for sure, but the game was still WINNABLE and he blew it.
