On that note, I'm still dizzy that we got done by Essendon and Collingwood, beaten by Melbourne and Richmond today. I'll bet their fans are even more confused, like we are sometimes.

It's an even competition. Any team can get done by any other team if they're slightly off on the day and the opposition come to play. Yeah, we lost to Essendon and Collingwood, but we also beat Sydney in Sydney. I wouldn't have backed us to win that even at full strength, let alone going over there with half a SANFL side. But we turned up with a plan and the mindset to execute it from the opening bounce, they were slightly off, probably a bit complacent, and there's your result.

Some or all of the monies she was collecting was in the guise of being forwarded to specific charities. Unfortunately she didn't pass on the money as promised.
Did she go to jail for a long time?

Off of the top my head, I don't think so. I think she was ordered by the court to pay the charities around $400K.

Edit: It was in the news again recently. She was also given a date by which to pay the charities. The date has passed with no payments made

Even with Otten in, there was something about the structure of that defence that looked perfect.

Granted it was the gold coast, but the balance of lock down, vs intercept, vs speed, vs guarding space seemed to work really well in that game.

Our defenders weren't getting in each other's way, and everyone seemed to be covering when they should be, whilst defending man.

We didn't get the situation where 3 defenders would go for the mark against the 1 opposition player leaving the open man to crumb.

Liking what I saw that game and would like to see more.

Long term (when Smith is back) I can see Kelly getting squeezed out for the exact reason you mentioned.

I wouldn't have minded swinging Otten forward in the 2nd half. With Tex missing, JJ having a stinker and McGovern seemingly spending more time down back than up forward (and probably looking better in defence anyway), we were sorely lacking a target up there.

Kelly is on a list of potential trade bait for me. Not because I want him gone by any stretch, its just he has some currency, and we have more and more guys trying to squeeze into a very full backline unit. If you think about it we currently have;

KPD: Talia, Hartigan, Heath, Dear, Himmelberg
Midsized Defenders: Kelly, Doedee, Otten, Cheney
Lock down Small: Brown
Running Defenders: Smith, Milera, Laird, Mackay

Thats 14 dedicated defenders who all can play good AFL football (Granted Dear and HBerg might be a little preemptive)... At a certain point we have to make a decision on how much defensive depth a team actually needs.

Kelly is contracted for 2019. He's not going anywhere. Not this year, anyway.

Of the players you've named, Keath is looking increasingly unlikely (but he's contracted for 2019 so won't be delisted), and Cheney is a dead man walking.

Mackay may be in career best form, but at 29 years of age, and with Smith returning at the end of the year, his days are surely numbered.

There's nothing to suggest that Kelly will, or should, be traded this year. Ask me again in late 2019, when he's actually out of contract.

Doesn't he have strong Collingwood ties?
His father played in their 1990 premiership team, having started his career at Norwood. The Pies had the chance to draft him under the F/S rule, and chose not to. Adelaide picked him up as a rookie, and he's never shown any positive inclinations towards Collingwood ever since.

Interesting to see if Collingwood nominate Jake's brother Will this year a 195cm KPP who played in defence last year but is spending time up forward this year for the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup Comp and is a teammate of our father/son Zac Hart. Could see the scenario we might just look at him if the Pies pass him over.

I obviously haven't seen either of them in action, but the pre-season media articles indicated that Will was much more likely to make it than Zac. Is this your assessment? I think Adelaide would definitely be interested in Will, if he was available at the right pick (whatever that might be).

I get the feeling that you're not overly enthusiastic about Zac Hart's chances of making it?

Cheers. For some reason I thought there was a bit of smoke around him as a trade candidate. But in retrospect maybe I'm just remembering BT and Eddie rabbiting on about it during commentary over the years!

Hence the word "trade" ;)

It is possible, but I would be reluctant to try to trade Kelly unless another club made the first move for him. Ask the Western Bulldogs how this turns out if you start throwing contracted players names on the table and the trade doesnt go through. We rarely have the full best 22 available and even if Kelly was pushed out he would probably be one of the first ones back. We dont have any players coming through in his position either do we?

Wonder if we can get any interest in Harry Dear. I have liked what I have seen from him in the SANFL. I think he is an AFL player personally.

I might be able to tell you more after next Sunday as my GWV Rebels are playing the Oakleigh Chargers at home here at Mars Stadium, hopefully both lads will get a game, school football commitments permitting. Both are Private School lads so generally that takes precedence over TAC for the lads. On what I've seen and heard a rookie spot looks about Hart's level at best at this point.

his dad is Craig Kelly (I think), who is a Collingwood premiership player. Also a player manager
Who I wouldn't be pissing off!

Agree Kelly is tradeable, but would only do if he wants to move.

Bit early to be writing off Keath.

Craig is from Claire and went to school in Adelaide. Family have strong ties here, regardless of Craig living in Melbourne.

His younger brother by all reports is expected to be a better player.
