Goodes To Become Swans Games Record Holder This Week

Am I being sensitive or is this pretty lame by Barry here.

I don't think that stuff needs to be said when he's about to celebrate breaking the record and how is it a shame that he's taking the record from O'Loughlin?

To be honest I never really saw Goodes as soft, and we've all seen what Hall considers to be tough so I'm not sure he should be talking at all.

I think you're being sensitive/reacting to sensationalism from the editor with the headline. Hall was praising Goodes, make no mistake. The headline just chose to focus on the fact that Hall said Goodes used to be soft (as in, when he first came to the club he was a bit soft, and he worked really, really hard to be one of the toughest players in the competition, which is testament to how great he is and how hard he's had to work behind the scenes), and the rest of the article is then read in that "Goodes-is-soft" context.

I don't think you had to have watched Skilton to rank him as the greatest Swan of all time. 9 time B&F winner and triple Brownlow Medallist is pretty remarkable.

Despite never seeing him play, those facts in and of themselves make it impossible for me to rank Goodes above him notwithstanding the love and admiration I have for number 37. He's 2nd over Kelly IMO.

I loved Kelly's enthusiasm, leadership and courage, but I do believe Goodes is the best modern day player that the Swans have produced. His skills, strength and speed for a big man are better than anyone else in the competition. When he is up and running, he is pure class. Despite his talent, he has never let it go to his head and besides his value on the field, his behaviour and demeanor off the field bring a lot of respect to himself and the club.

Congratulations Adam Goodes! :thumbsu:

I saw Hall make the comment about Adam and perceived "being soft" and yes he did say that to his credit (Goodes that is) worked hard to overcome the tag. I just think it was a poor choice for an accolade by Barry who I remember saying at the end of a game in 2003 "hes a freak get onto him" - referring to Goodes at the time and the Brownlow Medal. Maybe he should have stuck to that. I loved Barry Hall and wore a lot of criticism when he played for us. He was a great player and our captain in the Premiership year. There was so much more he could have said but he chose what I would suggest is a backhanded compliment at best. Poor form, still bitter Barry??

Geez people are touchy. Editors want controversy but Hall would never bag Goodes. Whatever else, they won a flag together.

Great video on Swans TV of Goodes & O'Loughlin. Micky O sayin how they've played so many games together and shared 2 Brownlows between them. I chortled.

Well done Goodes. Don't let the Hawks rain on this parade. We're a better team than the one that faced them on your 300th. I still remember in 1999 that gutsy effort you put in when Greg Stafford went down and you stood the ruck against Corey McKernan. Outgunned and oustsized you almost broke your wrist and ended up chucking your guts out on the way home (or so it was reported) from sheer effort. You inspired the team and we came back and beat Norvs from an amazing deficit. Hope the team channels that same spirit this weekend and you can party big time in "The little bushy triangle down-under" (Dame Edna)

As an aside...If we manage to go deep into finals this year we'll bring up Bolton's 300th too. That's an amazing 3x300 game players from the same era.

Brownlow votes don't tell the whole story. Gary Ablett (snr) never polled well yet is (IMO) the best player I ever saw play. At the end of his career he was still averaging 4 goals/game. He averaged 6 goals per game over multiple seasons and won the 1989 Norm Smith despite his team losing.

I think all this comparison stuff is far too subjective. Even the Brownlow is an umpires vote (ask Leg End how clever they are). The AFLPA and Coaches nominations lack the prestige but probably are more accurate indicators of a player's prowess.

Goodes will always be regarded as one of the greats of all time. Opinions will always differ as to who is better or who is not.

Except flawed as coaches get to push a clubs agenda by say.... Voting for Ziebell after he played ship to keep him in the running and attention for the club.

I was not talking about an editor's quote Bungee, I was referring to the television show he was on and the comments he made. It was poor form from him and that is my opinion end of story. The story of Micky O and Goodes was great, there were a few articles on Goodes, Micky O and Jude Bolton which also were good.

Fair enough. I didn't see the video of Hall but I know the guy likes to make a little mischief. I doubt there is any bad blood between Goodes and Hall.

Looking foward to the highlights reel when Jude makes 300. More carnage than a Hollywood blockbuster.
