Yep pretty much.

Only difference is bulldogs got it all home and away last year and learned how to play with it and exploit it. They actually adapted their tactics to get the most benefit from it they could.

Our one saving grace may be that Richmond have only become the umpiring pets very recently and they haven't learned how to fully exploit it yet.
What did Craig say, only when every player and every coach has the perfect game can you blame the umps. Let's just win this , no excuses

Not sure how anyone can claim cotchin was simply "going for the ball". If his main thought was for the bell there was absolutely no need to barrel into shiel's chin with his shoulder.
Don't head to the main board then ... I just got told to go have a shag and stop trying to put poor cotchin and ellis under the bus :)

Now the Richmond boys are saying that Cotchin and Ellis should be cleared - and so should Sloane and Walker ????

The truth is we know that the AFL will find a way for the brave brave Tigers captain to get off the un-get-off-able.

I think it's fair to say that at a minimum, cotchin was "careless". To win the ball, he had other options. He could have reached in with his hands, or waited on Shiel to pick it up and then lay a tackle. Instead, Cotchin flies in with his shoulder, gets Shiel on the chin who ends up concussed and missing 3 quarters of the game. At minimum, careless, low impact, high contact which is a fine and bye bye cotchin. I would say it's closer to medium contact which is a 1 week suspension even with an early plea.

Can't wait to see how the MRP try to spin this.

Umpires are never the only factor but reality is in some games they are an undeniably massive factor.

2012 Preliminary Final case in point and last years GF falls into that category.

That said, the coaching and playing group has to adopt the above philosophy because they can't change the umpiring.

So the Crows and Richmond both beat GWS in the finals by 36 pts; they beat Geelong by 51, we beat them by 61.

Form line says this will be tight

The difference is the manner of the victory.

We had both GWS and Geelong basically beaten in the first quarter and then took our foot off the pedal and did enough to slowly extend our lead after that.

Richmond didn't have either game sewn up until nearly 3/4 time.

Make no mistake we could have thrashed both sides by 6 more goals than we did, can't say the same about Richmond.

If Richmond Kicked straight yesterday that game was over much sooner. They were keeping GWS in the game for a while there before breaking it open.

Same with the Cats game, while it wasn't a huge lead they were dominant and Geelong were so close to being goalless at half time but for 2 last 2 minute goals.

Richmond DON'T kick straight.

They've only kicked more goals than points like 7 times all year.

Their forward line is unarguably the worst of the top 4 sides.

wait for them to kick 20.5 this weekend then

They are like Geelong, they can't kick a winning score against us without throwing Martin forward. But if they throw Martin forward they can't match our midfield.

It is going to go exactly the same way as it did for Danger and Geelong. Whichever area of the ground Dusty is in will hold its own but be let down by the other part.

The clear difference between us and them is skill and execution.

We are way ahead of the Tigers in that regard.

I think it's Astbury who could go...
Shiels was holding his shoulder and played on after the Cotchin hit and a little later Astbury stepped over the ball and body blocked him hard, looked like it rattled him

At this rate, you'll have no one left to play! :p

Shame, you'll just have to forfeit ;)

I agree, our wins were better, just keeping a lid on it all

Deserves 1 weeek but the afl is to gutless to allow this.

Its quite amazing seeing the AFL talking heads who all year have been saying "the head is sacrosanct", "when you tackle and bump you have a duty of care", "the health outcome plays apart in the penalty", all of a sudden talking up how he shouldnt get a fine and football needs to make room for football accidents.

Big difference though.

We had the games in control from the beginning and maintained and grew the margin.

Richmond struggled to score in the first half and ran away with it in the second.

If we get off to a good start like we have, Richmond will struggle to overcome the margin as they don't kick a huge score and we will continue to score.

It all comes down to the start.

Similar yes. We put GWS to bed in the first half though. Richmond didn't really gain ascendancy until well into the second half.

AFL website's already 'spun' it.
