GWS - inability to land players

Isnt the mining boom starting to fade?

Hey we have beaches, well one, Jellybean pools.

Too early to call it yet. They will probably land the next target they throw $1.5m at as Sydney won't be able to trump it (maybe Fyfe).

No one left/available worth that type of money or even close, and we only threw 1.2 and then took it off the table.

Yes, I know. I'm merely pointing out that Franklin not signing with GWS is not an indication they won't be able to land a big name in the future. They don't have to be left/available anyway, you can offer money and trade for contracted players.

True, sorry for misunderstanding

Perhaps Sheedy is part reason why players don't want to go there?

GWS may not be the most popular place to be right now, but when the young players who stick around start finding some success in years to come that will change and hopefully in return for the loyalty those young players have shown in sticking strong GWS will reward them instead of going out and buying a marquee player or two.

How many times was he concussed this year? Oh that's right none. Good call champion.

You say GWS are signing an injury prone ruckman in Mumford but neglect to note that Sydney were taking their own risk signing a concussion plagued forward from Adelaide. So the injury risk is smart when the Swans take it but dumb when the Giants do it? Whattttt?

Again how many games did Tippett miss via concussion this year?

KURT Tippett has revealed it was the bout of concussions which sidelined him for four games towards the end of last season which prompted him to evaluate his life and led to his decision to join Sydney.

Hence he knew himself that a few more concussions could leave him out of the sport for good and wanted to cash in on a big pay day while he could maybe?

Again do you really think the swans medical staff wouldn't have done their due diligence?

Well I hope they did. Still there is a huge amount of research into concussion then has been in the past and people are constantly finding out new things.

http://www.knowconcussion.org/about-concussion/how-many-is-too-many/

"The American Academy of Neurology recommends termination of the season after the third concussion within that same season"

"Some other research suggests that an athlete who has sustained three previous concussions in a career should no longer be allowed to participate in contact sport"

A lot of differing opinions by experts on what is considered acceptable when it comes to concussion and the longevity of a athlete.

Once we signed Mumford this thread's title and need to be kept open ended. But instead it becomes some p#ssing competition about who know more about Kurt Tippet and his various concussions.

Why is this thread still open? Can a Mod explain that please.

..am sure other posters can name good players from their own clubs that gws chased hard but failed to land.. ..in the year preceding your entry when you had the poaching rule benefit towards players coming out of contract, you chased Gibbs and Krooz very hard, especially Krooz..

..chased a few from the pies as well, even drafted pendles' brother to try and get him across [only works with abletts]..

..yes you've landed Mummy, but lets look at that objectively.. ..mummy wants to live in sydney, and has been pushed out by the swans.. ..you're his default, his safety net, his back up..

..in time things will change, but generally at the moment yes, your club is struggling to attract genuine talent without the 'sweetener' of huge dollars [scully], or superfunds [other clubs old 'stars']..
