Petty is contracted for 2 years, even if he wants to go to Adelaide now he won’t request a trade unless he knows a trade will get done. He knows 14 and McAdam won’t get it done.
In all seriousness though Petty plays on the #1 forward so May and Lever can showboat around the backline.
Meanwhile Murray usually gets the #2 man and Butts gets the main man.
That stat looks quite good though.
Murray has gone pass Butts this year.

Dees in a premiership window are unlikely to trade him, if he doesn’t sign an extension and with the money being talked about Petty will likely get a first round compensation pick if he leaves through free agency in 2 years time.

You'll probably get him for free in a couple of years at this rate. Unfortunately, it looks like 2021 was Butts peak seeing his offensive game has regressed and he doesn't quite have the defensive game to make up for it.

We lost Jake Lever (uncontracted) after our 2017 GF. We also lost a contracted Charlie Cameron (1 yr left) and Mitch McGovern (2 yrs left)
Lever and Cameron were young and extremely talented. McGovern worked really well in our system (not so much Carltons)
It happens .. Petty may just want to leave .. for reasons .. and maybe you're better off just moving on?

It’s hard getting a club to be in a premiership window.
Yes Adelaide lost those players after the 2017 Grand Final, and have missed finals the following 6 years. So was it better just moving on? Perhaps Charlie Cameron changes his mind a year later and stays with the Crows.
Petty is contracted for 2 years, Dees are in a premiership window. I think it’s better to keep the club in a premiership window than just move on. Melbourne will be compensated if he leaves through free agency in 2 years time.
Sounds like it’s gonna take 3 firsts to get Dees to consider this.
Yes he probably isn’t worth 3 firsts, but due to his value internally to the Dees, the key role in the team and contract , there is a huge premium on Petty to turn Tim Lambs head.
Which is why I doubt it will happen.
Being able to get pick 1 alone won’t be enough as Harley Reid still needs someone to kick it to. I like the Lobb suggestion but would need some serious capital to find a long term forward to replace Petty.
