Has there ever been an Asian AFL football player?

I reckon we might have some Indian footballers in the future if they get involved in the game. Recently I've made a few Indian friends from Punjab (near Pakistan) and they are all big lads and love their sport. I played kick to kick with them and they really got into it and some looked naturals.

It will take few years for the Indians to come through but they surely will as nearly all my Indian friends and their kids love the game once they get a handle on it and also like the cricket connection in our games history.

Peter Bell s Korean born

funny story one day when he was at north...and the runner was sent out to find Bell to deliver a message...the runner came back and said he couldnt spot bell.....the coach replied hes the only 5ft 7 KOREAN looking player out there ...(or something like that...sure somome will correct it :thumbsu:)
Pretty much on the money "Numbers". The message from Pagan pretty much went, "what do you mean you can't find him ! The f***ing missionaries found him on the side of road in Korea, and you can't find him on the f***ing MCG. How many other 5 foot Koreans are running around to confuse him with".

Matthew Stokes is half Asian [Malaysian ?]
Phillipino, I think.

In answer to the OP: John Harms, IIRC, did a column on it last year and said that some gun WAFL player from yesteryear was Asian.

There's also an all-Asian team playing in one of the Melbourne leagues, I think. And we usually get a few guys from Malayasia/India playing for us; they're skills are a bit dodgy but they love it. And some of the guys from Singapore...they've come out here after having spent 2-3 years in the Army, and my god are they big units. Love to have them running through and cleaning up guys.

Oh, and there is of course Ranga Ediriwickrama, who (hopefully) will be an absolute gun.

umm... no daniel kerr is definitely sri lankan... i know this for sure my uncle knows his parents

For sure huh?

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/what-makes-him-run/2007/04/13/1175971352183.html

DANIEL Kerr’s father, was a premiership player at East Fremantle and Port Adelaide, two of the toughest and most successful football clubs in the land in the 1980s.
Roger Kerr was born in the cesspool of Kolkata, the son of an English metallurgist who went to India and met a local girl, married her and brought her to Perth when Roger was seven.
A few people in AFL circles used to think that Daniel was Aboriginal; more recently there have been stories printed that he is of Sri Lankan heritage. In fact he has family links to the British Raj and his grandmother was Indian.

Bzzt

Daniel Kerrs Dad was born in Calcutta. Roger Kerrs Mother (Kerrs grandmother) is Indian.

So on that, he's actually 1/4 Indian, 3/4 Anglo.

Les Fong is a West Perth legend, played about 250 games. Would have played AFL had it existed in the 70's and early 80's.

I was going to mention him too, until I saw your post.

From; http://www.theage.com.au/realfooty/news/afl/youre-a-champ-china/2006/06/26/1151174134585.html

Les Fong was a brilliant rover. In a career that began in 1973 (he was coached at an early stage by Dennis Cometti), Les played 284 games for West Perth and numerous times for WA. He fielded many offers to play in Victoria, particularly after his performance in the 1980 state-of-origin match. But he had a young family, was making his way as a physical education teacher, and decided to stay in the West.
The Fongs' grandfather was from Guangzhou and their grandmother was part-Chinese. In 1960s Australia, their appearance made for some tough moments.
"I copped a barrage as a kid, both on and off the field," Les recalled. "But I handled it well. It made me more determined."

Richard Chee Quee

From here;

Richard Chee Quee (born January 4, 1971 in Camperdown, New South Wales) is a former first-class cricketer.
Chee Quee is notable for being the first player of Chinese origin to play first-class cricket in Australia. A cult figure and dashing bat, he played from 1992-93 to 2000-01 for New South Wales.
Today, he is the lead vocalist in the rock band Six & Out and is a B-List celebrity. An avid fantasy football enthusiast, Chee Quee has now devoted his life to AFL Dreamteam.

Don't think he ever played in the AFL.
