Do we really want to be a player's 2nd choice ?

He signs a 3 year deal then goes when he is in his prime.

Would he even get a game at Geelong next year?
Or he cements a spot in the team and love it and stays for the rest of his career.

Or he leaves in 3 years entering his prime and we get a bigger return for him.

Twomey said Geel then Roos then Hawks but its been reported Bruhn has said no to Roos.

Has Bruhn said he wants Geelong publicly ?
I refuse to believe Twomey has some list of preferences from him, I call massive BS anytime journos run that shit.

No idea if we are getting Bruhn or not but that sounds like crap to me

Im sure player managers pass this info over to extract more coin from the real target.

So he may have the info. It may just be made up.

Media dont care if they get 100 calls wrong. They only count their wins.

Can’t see it happening either. They will get Taranto, but not both. GWS will want 3 first rounders all up for both, which They won’t be able to muster up.
Two top ten and a late first, currently have 13 20 and future first wont be valued at anything decent. Even if they give up Balta it's only just getting close to the value,

I’ll but gutted if we don’t get Bruhn but if it doesn’t happen we move on. If Richmond don’t get Hopper I wonder if this bring them into the Mitchell sweepstakes?
Exactly he’d be a bonus if we got him highly rated in his draft year and still only 20 but if he’s going to play one off against the other and not buy in forget it not worth it anyway .

I didn’t read the update as many others have done, all it says is if cats don’t get hopper they will go hard for bruhn. That is surely not a shock, but unless I am missing something, it didn’t mention his preference for us or them. It depends what he prioritises - expect we offer a bit more coin and more opportunities in the midfield, arguably he may prefer living in Geelong and they may be prepared to part with more draft capital given they are in the window. Maybe we beat them at their own game and offer a future first for hopper? 🤣

I would say with the new Broadcast deal announced tigers and others are heavily back-ending contracts knowing that there will be a salary cap rise in 2 years as well as Dusty’s contract ending in 2 years.

They still need a top ten pick to get both done, late firsts (this year and next as they will play finals) won’t get both done.

Any fringe Richmond mids we could target that have potential and aren’t getting game time?

I dont think the CBA will see a massive increase.

The AFL has to fund the AFLW and they are getting massive salary increases without the corresponding revenue increases.

There is also GCS and GWS who still need massive funding. There is additional funding for all the struggling VIC teams. Plus the Tassie team will most likely get avg funding for the first 5 years with no additional games being played.

And the AFL is like a govt bureaucracy. As soon as there is more money it will be spent, with nothing much to show for it. All the cutbacks and shrinking during COVID will be reversed and there will be money spent everywhere and that means a much increased management structure.

The players get 28% of revenue at the moment and can't see that changing.

If broadcast revenue is increasing by c$170m a year from say $470 to $640 (and thats not even including other revenue types like sponsorship) then that is an extra $2.6m per club per year.

AFL will be arguing to have some of that go to the women and the AFLPA will want an increase to start from next year (smooth it out) but that will be around the edges.

Unfortunately, a lot of clubs will have solved their salary cap issues and we just found it harder to hit the minimum.

Yeah I have heard quoted in the media since the announcement that will be approximately 2.6 million increase in players salary cap from 2025. Also increase in footy dept soft cap.

GWS want two 1sts or a top 10 pick plus a decent Tiger coming back the other way for each Taranto and Hopper .

Cant see how they get that done , good luck to them if they do .

Let the panic in here begin !! ( its already begun )
Correct. They've got 12 and 19 and a future first. None of which will be top 10. Good luck.

I know Hopper is younger but surely it's more beneficial to Richmond to trade for Taranto and Mitchell. They'd likely be able to keep one of those higher picks or not touch any futures.

Richmond: Taranto/Mitchell
Hawthorn: Bruhn
Geelong: Hopper

Interesting to see if they ask the same of Geelong- does GWS end up with 5+ first rounders from this trade period?

If GWS end up with picks 3, 11, 18, 19 (first pick of second), + Geelong 2023 first do they then look to move up the draft board aggressively? Were they to end up with all those, hardly seems likely that they'd want another pick in this years draft and could ask for future picks for Bruhn from us.
Or would they then enter the race for pick 1/2?
Jeez there's a lot going on
