Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

if we get to have this “problem”, I now believe we will attempt another upgrade and take Sheezel, although personally I would take the players you have recommended. I agree we need 10 quality players over the next three Drafts.
Hawthorn
Out: 6+7+49+Gunston
In: 2+15+26

West Coast
Out: 2+20+26
In: 6+7

Brisbane
Out: 15
In: 20+49+Gunston

Something like this could work

I really don't want to drop from 7 down to 15 in this draft.

I like 6 + 7 + 16* + Poulter better.

On that, I would love us to be holding Pick 16 on Draft night & see who (if anyone) came knocking for a live trade with 2023 asset(s).

Freo need an earlier pick for Jackson if we got Bowes + pick 7 could we get involved? Pick 7 for their 13 and the f2 from north for logue (figure it’s a valued pick on draft night and may even replace f2 we may have to give in bowes deal). Titch trade + 24 for 16 and poulter. Take Mackenzie/Clark then Jefferson/hewett then hotton/hollands plus Amon bowes poulter and Lawrence f/s. Likely have 6 19 24 for 2023.

Not at all confident on bowes - and is a ridiculous deal if we get bowe, pick 7 for our future 2nd. I hope we’re still sniffing around Flanders as if bowes deal fails suns will need to do something.

Also doubtful meek deal gets done - he’s contracted and freo will ask for too much.

If we miss bowes but get Mitchell done will interesting to see if we do something with our future 2nd. We likely won’t need it next year and generally get better value trading in the year but maybe there’s a guy in 20s we like?

Eg Swapping our future second and current 3rd for a mids 20s pick and future 3rd could be interesting. Maybe is all part of the pies deal? Wright loves his pick swaps.

But if end up going to draft with 7,16, 24 + Poulter with loss of Mitchell and future 2nd (but extra f3 for next year) could put us in an interesting place. Ie maybe ginbey, George, best mid or maybe a Keeler type?

Still feel there’s possibly one more player to go out (outside of Gunston and mitchell). Way too many hbfs on list and hff group also getting a bit full.

Nah, not for me. Maybe I misinterpreted what you're suggesting

I think Meek will get done. They would understand him wanting to leave for a greater opportunity with Jackson coming in and having Darcy already.

Freo plays hard ball and not afraid to hold guys to their contracts (think they did with lobb last year and maybe again this year?). I just don’t see meek as critical to us as what freo will demand. Will be an interesting test of our list management team - whether we can walk away.

Yes you understand it would likely be 13 and 19/20 in 2023 depending on where north finish. Not saying the points value is the be all and end all but pick 7 is worth 1644 picks 13 (1212) and 19 (948) total 2160. I outlined who I’d take this year to show the logic and it improves our hand in a stronger draft next year

Tom Mitchell, pick 2, brody Grundy and our future first for DGB and Breust
This reads like an AI generated hypothetical trade based on posts in this thread without an idea of which team has which players/picks.

I agree about one more player and it being a defender …

I agree pick 16 could offer some 2023 gold.

I'm the opposite. Wish it started the day after the Grand Final and up to the national draft.
I dunno, I like some time for the premier to enjoy first.

I remember being pretty dirty that we had a handful of days to celebrate in 2013 before all the buddy stuff broke..

Moving a pick to an early 2nd next year could be a great idea normally. But we have McCabe to match a bid on in 2023. Likely to be mid to late first. So a great pick like that all of a sudden gets eaten up by a bid and is useless unless we can facilitate a quick trade on draft night.

Agree but it’s also capital in a strong draft that could enable other things. I would add that there are players who’s draft range a year out is pretty set, like Harley Reid, but will McCabe is not that player. As a versatile tall his range now would be quite wide I think. Anyway that’s the point of the thread to float ideas the whackier the better and achieve the ultimate goal -avoid listening to trade radio, isn’t it?

Tom would have to agree, I’ve seen a few statements that he doesn’t want to leave Melbourne
Not sure that he will have the option. Out of contract at the end of this year he would be better snapping up a longer term contract now on better coin than looking around at the end of 2023 when his currency will be lower.
