Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Moving a pick to an early 2nd next year could be a great idea normally. But we have McCabe to match a bid on in 2023. Likely to be mid to late first. So a great pick like that all of a sudden gets eaten up by a bid and is useless unless we can facilitate a quick trade on draft night.

As Hawks fans something we all need to keep in mind is that McCabe might not end up having a good season next year. As always is mentioned it won't be until the annual championships to know where he'll go. Obviously we all hope and pray the kid ends up being a top 10 talent but there's a lot of water to go under the bridge.

What does 6 and 7 get? (Positions and ability rather than names?)

And 2 and 16 get ?

I dont know names but my thinking is bull mid, attacking mid, mid sized fwd/utility and key defender would be on our list of wants.
Thorp AND Selwood!

Key Defender, but not a Key Forward?

We have Lewis, plus Ramsden, Jeka and Kosi. And also Serong.

Key defender is Blanck and maybe Frost, but he isnt really a key defender. Nor is DGB.

While another key forward would be nice I think a young key defender would be better.

Sicily, Frost, Blanck, DGB, Jeka.

I'm not sure we can run with 6 tall defenders on the same list that includes a Gunston-less forward line and the competitions worst midfield.

Sicily is like Gibbo. He can take on key defenders but he is far better served elsewhere. Frost too. Even DGB cant take on the 200cm+ monster forwards which every club now has.

At the moment its Blanck which is why we need someone else. We have more options forward.

It's why we desperately need DGB to develop into that.

If he can't, we'll, it's not a need or type we should have used pick 6 on.

I 100% agree with you on Sicily, the sooner he can play third tall the better we will be. Gibbo was a spot on reference there.

We may just view this one differently.

Tom Hawkins is the final boss in regards to the hulking key forward in my opinion.

The King brothers and Jamarra Ugle Hagen are ab example of the next generation of key forwards and from a body type perspective, Frost and DGB are capable beyond Blanck.

If Kosi doesn't recapture his 2021 form we are stuck with a resting ruck, Jeka swinging forward despite only 2 career goals, an untried Ramsden or potentially Jerome Lawrence as key forward number 2.

If DGB got there that would be awesome. But he doesnt seem to have the height or build for it and seems to injure easily (like Day). Still young so maybe another pre-season.

Jeka is one who may. Seems more physical and as Dunstall often says, forwards can always play in defence because defence is easy.

McKay surely hulking? Curnow far more the athlete.

Lewis is also hulking, but he is ours for years to come.

None as physically imposing or strong as Hawkins. It was literally a decade ago that we recruited Brian Lake to curtail that influence in big games. The fact he is dominating the early parts of Grand Finals in 2022 is gross.

The big full forward was in vogue until Tom Boyd and Paddy McCartin were busts in that position.

Now it's about the athletic type.

Thankfully for us, Lewis is a hybrid freak.

Not sure that he will have the option. Out of contract at the end of this year he would be better snapping up a longer term contract now on better coin than looking around at the end of 2023 when his currency will be lower.
Firstly he’s out of contract next year. He needs to agree to any potential trade

Jeka has demonstrated little physical presence.

I think our priorities are 2 mids and a key forward to partner Lewis.
Bowes and Mitchell for the pick 24 upgrade to pick 16 and we can do exactly that. with 6,7,16 or I floated the unpopular idea of splitting 7 for 2 picks one this year one next. Or would Sydney look at giving 14 and 17 for 7 and something later? There are players like Jefferson hewett hollands hotton I figure are in the teens picks and would love to get 2 of them on top of who we take at 6(7)

You forgot to add pick 7 to the outs

For all his aggression though he is still 85kg (dripping wet) and gives away a lot of free kicks because of his lack of size.

DGB just doesn’t have the body type that will let him play on a Hawkins/McKay but he could still make it as a lockdown back who plays on a third forward and can take the odd intercept mark (ala Ben Stratton).

Whether that type of player is worth a top ten pick is a whole other story of course.

I’d rather just give Freo 43 for Meek, and keep 7. Then you have MacKenzie AND Clark or whoever isn’t taken at 6. Not sure where 53 comes in, typo I assume.

I'm not sure why you're putting limitations on a second year player

Looks good, although I really don't like sliding from pick 7 to pick 13 to bring in Meek. The points difference works out alright, but having consecutive picks in the top 10 (Pick 6 & 7) is just gold and I wouldn't give that up for Meek. Surely there are some better options available for getting this trade done?
