Has us listed as a possible landing spot.
Would anyone be interested?

Honestly wouldn't mind taking a punt on Dow but I do think he's just in that funny spot where he is a step above the VFL and a step below the AFL.

Forget bowes go to suns and say either take 7 off the table as cats want him anyway we’ll take fiorini and Atkins in full for a heap of their picks and use those to unlock TOM lions f1 meek trade up to pick 2 etc - use our one asset whilst we have it fiorini can do TOMs role Atkins at box hill as philips depth replacement for 2 years then cut

I think it depends where he lands. But if GC dont agree to trade him he will play out the two years on current salary.

Why would you extend it out and reduce the next two years to he 7th in line ?

I wouldn’t….. I’m trying to get my head around the incompetence of GC to get into this position of needing to offload pick 7.

Are they going to be over the cap next year…. it’s over the top to give up pick 7 so you can offload a player now to “be able to bring in free agents in few years” (when his contract will be expiring anyway).

They are already getting money that would have been earmarked for Rankine off their books from next season onwards.

Flip it around the other way if they have room in their cap next season…. pay him some of Rankine’s cash next year….$1.3m in 23 and $300k in 24….that would already free up $500k by the next trade period and the full amount the year after…. while keeping pick 7 and adding more high end talent into the club.

I can’t believe there isn’t a better option somehow than what they are doing.

suns are asking for a 2nd round back.....so its effectively offloading bowes and his massive salary for a pick downgrade

I heard Cochrane once talk about how they basically had to pay 20% over to keep and recruit players at Goldy. You can see how this would eventually be very tough to manage the cap .

From memory I think they paid somewhere around 600k a season to get Brandon Ellis up there.

Imagine what sort of coin Anderson Rowell Lukosious and King are demanding .

PROJECT GET WARDLAW/TSATAS/CADMAN/SHEEZEL

Step 1:
Trade Mitchell to Collingwood. Send out Mitchell and a future 4th for pick 39 and their future 3rd (this board in shambles).

Step 2:
Dunkley retires. Or something. Basically, Brisbane no longer need their current first for trade. Bundle the Jack deal into a pick points deal. Jack, 24, 39 and 50 go to the point hungry Lions for their pick 15 and future second round pick. A 400 point surplus and Jack for a future late second.

Two firsts, baby.

Step 3:
Freo fumble the bag. Melbourne tell him that they're not coming to the table. The Eagles swoop in for a massive cross town backstabbing coup. But not just for pick 2. They split it. They send out 2 and 26 to Hawthorn for 6, 15, Brisbane's future second and Collingwood's future third to secure Jackson for 6 and their future first with some late swaps. Eagles land Jackson, still take a late first round pick to the draft and bank on a rise up the ladder.

Take 2, 26, 63 to the draft after starting with 6, 24 and 50. Give up Tom, Gunston and a future 4th.

Freo just traded Acres for a future 3rd, but are digging their heels in over a 2nd for Meek.

Right.
Freo know hawks are the big bad in the media
They play girm and the media run the stories of how hawthorn don't play ball.
Happens nearly every year.
You also have a few teams the media love, and when teams don't cave to pressure, the media runs the campaign to help them

Pick 7 and Bowes trade (salary dump) should only be allowed if the team he goes to pays the exact amount of his remaining contract over the exact amount of years. They can restructure his contract however they like after that.
Agree. Or take pick 7 off the table.

Exactly, or if he’s willing to lower his price then lower it with GC. The AFL either sorts this shit out or it will be a cluster **** and turn trade period into a sham for years to come.

Yes, clubs have been kicking his salary can down the road for a while now. Maybe hawks should go we'll pay 1mil in year one to catch up what you've been missing out on.

I can't believe Gold Coast won 25 games from 2017 to 2021 and in that time they needed to get players to back end their contracts so they could fit everybody in. That is some seriously messed up list management.
Ablett’s ridiculous contract wouldn’t have helped.

Disagree on that. Bowes was really good in 2020 and 2021, form that Howe has never replicated.
Howe finished 7th in the best and fairest in 2021. Bowes outside the top 10.
Hawthorn finished above Gold Coast on the ladder if you were going to say that was in a poor side.
If Bowes was out of contract he would have been delisted.

If Howe was on a back ended contract for two more years and we traded him to Geelong along with pick 6 for their future 2nd we would riot big time. Lucky Gold Coast have no fans.
