Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Howe finished 7th in the best and fairest in 2021. Bowes outside the top 10.
Hawthorn finished above Gold Coast on the ladder if you were going to say that was in a poor side.
If Bowes was out of contract he would have been delisted.

If Howe was on a back ended contract for two more years and we traded him to Geelong along with pick 6 for their future 2nd we would riot big time. Lucky Gold Coast have no fans.

Bowes had a better season, irrespective of the unusual BnF placing for Howe. We all know how much Clarko loved his role playing battlers anyway.

Guelfi just finished third in Essendon's BnF. Seb Ross just finished fifth in St Kilda's. These teams are in a similar position to us.

Are these players better than the likes of Mitchell, Scrimshaw, JOM, etc?

Right Bowes done. No shock.

Meek? So long as nothing better than a third. Perhaps, but he needs to ruck mostly as not a forward.

Personally, I hope we are talking to Ratugolea. Genuine forward/ruck with serious athletic ability.

I could see him having a Chol breakout with opportunity and would love him next to Lewis.
I would love to have Ratugolea. Will be a great spoil for Lewis and take a serous mark.

Pick 7 and Bowes trade (salary dump) should only be allowed if the team he goes to pays the exact amount of his remaining contract over the exact amount of years. They can restructure his contract however they like after that.
I could be totally wrong here but didn’t Bowes say a while ago that his preference was to stay at GC? So if he is willing to spread his remaining contract over more years then wouldn’t he just stay at GC?

Geelong have to add Holmes, Bruhn, Henry, Mckenna, Menegola into their best 23, Bowes is behind all those 5 players.

Which has gotta make you wonder why he would prefer Geelong.
It doesn't help him personally if they continue to challenge without him in the side.

One of the better posts I have read.

This is where clubs down the bottom with heaps of cash to spend should be able to compete.

The comparison of their stats is fairly clear.

BnF placing means nothing. Unless we think the likes of Guelfi and Seb Ross are better players and had better years than Mitchell, JOM, Scrimshaw, etc.

Long story short their AFL ceilings are to be borderline role players, neither will be a potential star, c graders at most.

I am ok with that. But a restructured contract at another club (as part of a salary dump) should not be allowed unless there is fair and equitable trade involved. I couldn’t give a stuff if he goes to the Cats but they should have to pay out his existing contract of 1.7 over 2 years if the AFL wants to allow salary dumps involving ridiculously uneven trades. If the Cats can fit that remaining contract in their salary cap after winning a flag good luck to them.

Okay - just to be clear - a box seat is a prime position for viewing a field of competition or entertainment.

I can't believe how bad these journos are at metaphors.
While we're at it....

Mercurial means inconsistent and wildly varying. Not exciting, not elusive, not x-factor.

Steve Motlop was mercurial.
Cyril Rioli was not.

Charlie Cameron is not mercurial.
Joe Daniher is mercurial.

Eddie Betts was at times but his best seasons were anything but mercurial.

Pressure forward aren't mercurial if they keep up the defensive pressure just because they have some 4 goal games and others quiet.

Tall forwards are mercurial if they only ever kick bags of 5 or have no impact.

Stop calling exciting small forwards "mercurial” you idiots. It's an insult, not a compliment.
