"Too vanilla" "never top 10 in a B&F"

Meanwhile the same people were upset about missing Bowes who... has never been top 10 in a B&F.

Hoping for Morrison to get a VC spot just to really piss them off. That and I like the way he goes about it.

Bang on. Sam is cleansing the list of blokes who can’t dispose of the ball. No more bad kicks. Frost should be nervous
Frost and a few others but they deserve their spots. Love the way Frosty goes about it though. He’s hard to play against and excellent depth. Unfortunately you just can’t have any weak links by foot at the top level if you’re going to win it.

Love all 3 inclusions this trade period. We’ve done really well.

Also Essendon don't need help matching.

People need to realise, 22 only comes without one of next year's seconds.

That option will absolutely be there draft night.

Probably dependent on who's there at that pick if we want to do it. Given a supposedly stronger draft in 2023.
no it doesn't

we have picks 41 48 50 52 65

48 50 52 and 65 send to Essendon for pick 22 and they are more points and to essendons benefit

next years second won't help match a bid for them

Why was‘not Wingate traded.
Maybe because he didn't want to leave, we didn't want him to leave, and no other club wanted him to leave.

Apart from that, I can't think of any reason...

We could’ve got that deal done without paying a Brownlow medalist to play for a top four side for peanuts
Could we?
Why would Geelong trade him cheap???
Pick 16 from a couple of years ago stymied by injury early on but now fit and firing.

I love what Titch produced in 2018 but he's become a borderline liability since the broken leg.
Fact is nobody else wanted him so we got what we could.

Absolutely. They could not get Henry without this deal happening.

Injured for a lot of his first 2 years, but got 7 games in a very strong midfield this year.

Morrison had a good season and has developed into a solid and reliable player.

IMO he will struggle to keep his spot over the next two seasons though, once a few of the younger players take the next step in their development.

Also, he was 13th in votes per game, which reflects where abouts he currently sits on the list.

Exactly.
Geelong had no reason to part with him other than unwillingly to get Henry.

In three or four years time we could very well be laughing at how good this trade was.

Sam rates him fairly highly - so I don’t like the chances of your prediction.

Even if these trades come up roses people will still whine about them as nauseum. It’s 6 years on despite Morrison playing 78 games for us people whine about that Mitchell trade every.single.trade.period.

My take on what our strategy was;
-we had a s**t load of cash to take a salary dump and attract quality by absorbing contracts
- offload players by paying their contracts to play at another club in the hope of luring high draft picks in exchange

Reality
Trade out players, paying large portions of their contracts for sfa in return.

Did I miss something?

I negotiate for a living and let me tell you, we are ******* woeful at it. Legit question do any of these list managers actually get any training in negotiating, because it is a legit skill that I haven’t seen out of our club for a long time.

People were selling Jaegar as a professional that would set an example for a team to build culture. What about our ******* culture?

I did wonder about the negotiating and what training if any Mark has. And what background and history he has in the field.

Yeah still think we could have just taken 25 or 27 Cooper is a risk so is the pick but starting from scratch rather than an injury plagued mid

Clearly neither pick was on the table. Collingwood stuck to their initial offer.

You know that as fact as much as I do, I just know that there is always somebody squeezed out when you have an influx of new recruits. He identified us as where he wanted to be, I think you or I would’ve got it done. Not rocket science.

We got reamed from the Titch trade (evidence enough from people trying to image trades for the picks we received), but we had little leverage at the end of the day.

GW knew we wanted to trade out Titch this year, having tried last year, so he held firm and we blinked. Onwards and upwards - I'm annoyed, but no point dwelling on sunk costs now.

Just pray Coop becomes like the rest of his draft crop, as the 2019 draft was littered with serious quality.

All steam ahead.

EDIT: Additionally, copium was aided by the fact Geelong supporters seem more miffed than us with this trade. Pies spun gold on this one.

Yeah even if we gave 48 and got 27 i would have been happy
The reason you'd have been happy with it is the exact reason Collingwood never would have accepted it, 27 has value and unless you need the points 48 does not.

Yep and thats negotiations right. Anyways its now done so we move on

We can't negotiate from a position of weakness mate. Sam wanted Tom gone, it's pretty much impossible to talk a tough game and threaten to walk away from a trade in that situation.
