Point me to your post suggesting we should pay Mitchell's salary and accept third round picks.

And Stephens.

Would I have liked more - absolutely. Again, my point all along, is what do you do when you can't get it? Mitchell's value will only decline further so do we hang around and wait until next year Collingwood offer a solitary pick in the 50s? His market value just isn't there so you take what you can get and move on. Wrighty made some poor decisions with us - but I fail to see why people think 'bbbut but but he won a Brownlow 4 years ago before he broke his leg!!!!' didn't have Wrighty scrambling to pay overs.

Has it even been confirmed we're paying his salary? Some of it sure but not all of it like you're making out, nowhere near as much as I imagine we would have if given a better pick.

As mentioned previously by others also - it was one of his backended years so the salary payment wasn't overly enticing.

Billyc if you had your way….l how would you do things.
I wouldn't have done the Mitchell trade if that was the best offer. We really got no meaningful value for that trade and when you compare it to all of the other trades for players that went through this year, it stands out as a bad one. I expect Collingwood would have coughed up 27, as most clubs do when they are the one chasing players (especially Wright). Worst case pay Mitchell to play for us next year, instead of Collingwood. At least put an end to the perception of being pushovers and yielding to dud deals year after year.

The O'Meara trade is fine and I agree with it. That said, if there was any scope to convince him to go to Giants for superior deal (and there were some reports that was possible), I'd have pressed hard for that.

I get everyone has a different opinion and hats off if you think we did ok this draft period. But I don’t think it’s a controversial view to think we had a very ordinary period and failed to do what we wanted, and that’s certainly the sentiment amongst most supporters I’ve heard from and in the media amongst basically all pundits.

Pundits universally writing off Hawthorn - I'm shocked to be sitting here. A bit like how the vast majority of them tipped us for the spoon this year.

Giants hold pick one and three first round picks, but only got a C+. 😂

Saints get a D+ when they’re in a more dire circumstance than us currently and they needed to bring something to the list and got nothing!

Melbourne lost one of the best young talls in the comp and picked up Shache and a off-field problem in Hunter, but got an A-! 😂

Who writes this s**t.
If ever a club deserved an outright F it's Gold Coast. How much worse could a trade period be?

And what benefit does that yield us when he leaves next year for far less as an uncontracted player?

Sadley with this fact known to the entire footy community we were never going to get adequate compensation.
If Tom finds his appeatite again for the Pies it will be a steal but we shant cry, we created the mess and have to lick our wounds.

Not getting into the trade for Tom, it was poor, but Tom will go close to AA next year.

This is an incredible deal for Pies, they've got an absolute steal. Macrae will be laughing today.

But isn’t that the point? They’re worth what we negotiate they’re worth. Its not just about passively accepting “well that must be what they’re value is”.

We weren’t able to get what we wanted plain and simple and that’s why people are questioning things.

Why is it solely on Mark McKenzie's shoulders to turn Mitchell's value around miraculously? Last year he attracted zero interest. This year moderate interest. What is his trump card here? Walk and accept less for him next year? It was a motivated sale - we didn't hold any power in the negotiation.

Agree. This is Sammy’s team now. It is all on him.

He was meant to crash and burn this year and he didn’t.

Time will tell what happens next but from my point of view the kids took over this year and now with the departure of JOM/Mitchell/Gunston it is their team. Let’s see what they’ve got.

And I hope Breust is getting paid a million.

What did M.M say plwase tell me thanks

Assist in not getting bent over next time. I negotiate for a living. You know when someone is a folder. McKenzie has that reputation. Sam Power for example (who I actually went to uni with) is someone other clubs know will stick to his guns and he negotiates fair value. You implied it yourself when mocking Wright's offer of 41. He obviously knew that McKenzie would fold.

It is what it is and I am all in on rebuilding, but i'm not going to pretend a dud deal is a good deal.

Billy Hartung played 7 games in 2014 for us…

Geelong gave him away for very little.

We are pushovers at the trade table (both when we are trading in and out) and this Mitchell trade is a great example of that.
Hang on, so Geelong gave him away “for very little”? He was their first pick in 2019 and started playing seniors (well).

Who are the pushovers here?

So to sum up trade week...

Show Down Clint Eastwood GIF by Maudit

Once again, we don't end up being Clint Eastwood.

Amon & Cooper Stephens are the 2 mids I’m referring to. I’m excited to have them both and Meek is an excellent young Ruck.

It's drawing a very long bow calling Cooper Stephens a "gun midfielder" given Geelong didn't exactly bend over themselves trying to keep him. I hope you are right and I hope he is but it could easily be another Jon O'Rourke situation too.

Meek has potential, agreed. His age profile is nice and hopefully he and Reeves hit their peak at the same time 5 years from now. But again, there isn't a lot of exposed form there so we don't really know.

well written and said …

the Mitchell trade depends on…. Whether Cooper is any good…. I think he is… and whether a good player is produced more often from pick 25 or 2 picks after 40, Consider that! Is 25 (a maybe bet) better than 2 bets after 35?
