With all the negative commentary about the bye rounds, last nights game was probably significantly better for having two top teams playing after a week off.

In fact its been a good round, even though split

Swans are a deadly opponent . If Franklin kicked straight we would have been maybe 5 to 6 goals down, different night.

Next time we will have to really make a plan for Tippet and Buddy and stop them . Brian Lake will help. Cyril perhaps back, Hale back in form having a rest. There is some heavy artillery to be ready for the finals coming back. Add Spangher , Duryea too. We have some power there.

Hale marking in the forward line , higher scoring more targets for our mids, Lake wiping/taking out Tippet , he'll like that , maybe the finale, for the big backman.

Gibbo and Shoenmakers double teaming Buddy, and anyone else ready to run and kill forward thrusts, like the little assassin Poppy, blend the rest in and we have a good chance. But NO GUARANTEE.

As I'm sounding pretty sure it'll be Sydney, we both have to get there first, maybe neither will, but I don't feel that at the moment.

Next week we need a massive percentage boost, but Footscray are not a team to take lightly . Hawks won't.

Franklins inaccuracy is part of his game and part of his flaws. If he could kick straight we win the 2012 GF pretty comfortably.

He is the $wans problem now, but they will soon learn that if you put all your eggs into the Franklin basket it has the potential to go wrong at the pointy end of the season. Of course it can potentially go right as well, Adel 07, Dogs 08.

However give me the spread we have over relying on one player any day of he week

Great to see the Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis trio combining well throughout the match. The bigger bodies certainly helped us around the stoppages and it showed as the game went on it was always going to swing in our favour.

Gee we have a great spread on inside/outside mids at the moment. Only problem is that our inside mids are aging. Lewis still have 4-5 years left in him but need to find A grade replacements from somewhere.

An interesting read over there
As someone very interested in Psychosurgery, I believe ok computer is the recipient of a lobotomy.
Swansrule100 is just dumb.
Its quite funny.
Apparently, if the Hill decision was HTB, Buddy kicked straight, Tippet Kicked straight, the umpires didn't rob them, Kennedy get the frees that Mitchel gets, Ditto McGlyn, they would have won by 4 goals.

reminds me of this:

.

I Don't get this......you're acting as if we didn't miss set shots or goals, had we have kicked straight early on we would have been 5 or 6 goals up. The point is moot.

Pretty damn good but just from our side Hill and Smith have pretty good run and carry. One thing that I think sets Birchall apart from these two is that he isn't easily prevented from linking up for the one-two handball. He'd be a good 10-15kg bigger than the other two and it shows with the way he just sets a path and bulldozes through packs and tackles. Would be awesome if we had a right footed version for the other flank.
We do it is Litherland, give him time.

Lets be realistic here guys, not that im putting Schoey down in any way, but he will never make it as Key defender we've all seen enough by know to realise that, so has the club and that's way they were grooming him to play up forward but hasn't had the opportunity to do so this year through our injuries...
When any of the two of Spangher or Lake come back in, if there's no position for Schoey up forward he will be dropped to BHH to help them win their second flag back to back playing up forward..

Nailed it.

Shoe is not a defender, but he is doing the team thing at the moment.

Despite being a great contest and a geniune top of the table tussle this game was always going to be remembered as a past favourite son coming up against his old team.......

Yes that's right Jonathan Simpkin was the major talking point as all eyes were on him at the MCG. The $wans supporters showed him the ultimate disrespect by completely ignoring him when he went near the ball. In fact $wans supporters acted as if they didn't even remember that he once played for them.

But it was only 2 short years ago that Simpkin made waves when he left the $wans for Hawthorn only days after the 2012 Grand Final...... via Geelong. Rumours were spreading that the big name player wanted out of the Harbour City when he was denied COLA payments. 'We only pay that to players we poach' said the $wans hierarchy.

In the end Simpkin signed a 2 year deal with the Hawks for $25,000 + AA incentives, Sanity vouchers and a packet of Burger Rings. The $wans were keen to match this offer for the free agent but had already committed their enlarged salary cap to 2 players for the next 5 years. The $wans administration lobbied the AFL commission for special rules to enable them to keep all and every player they wanted. Crisis meetings were called by the AFL to quickly resolve the issue before the draft but the resolution came too late because Vlad Demetriou was on an overseas holiday.

No doubt the $wans will remember Simpkin as the one that got away.

Loving this post.

Are you from Colac?

Poppy's finish was great but that moment was all about Lewis for me. One of the best moments for the season.

We were struggling to hang in there, Lewis gets the ball and looks up and no one is forward at all. Just Poppy powering back as hard as he can with his opponent. Lewis flushes a beautiful torp on the run that he not only hits sweet and gains distance but actually puts to Poppy's advantage.

I'm man enough to say it moved a little. :p Up there with the Guerra kick in, Stratton mark/handball, Buddy leap and goal v Collingwood.

Just as a follow up to my man love for this passage of play by JL, I've since watched the replay twice and it doesn't do it justice to seeing it live at the game where the whole field of play is in vision and you get a better appreciation of the lack of options and how perfectly executed it was.

We are the only team to score over 100 points against the AFL $wans this year

Yes, this one line says so much.

With anywhere near our best midfield we will always score more than the opposition and 99.9% of the time, that will win us the game. ( The other 0.1% is held in reserve by the AFL in case they run out of ways to screw us. )

If we beat these afl sanctioned cheats self entitled bunch of campaigners in the GF i fully expect to be banned form BF for eternity. And i cant wait :)

I was so tempted to have a crack at some of the more docile, ill informed COLA posts but bit my tongue.
Mate of mine is Swans man and I never heard a peep from him. Usually I'll get some passive aggressive text after a loss but all I heard was crickets. :D

There are so many games when the umpires are against us in the first half, but then go even handed in second, that I wonder if it is to make sure that the game is a contest instead of a possible blow out. The same may apply for other clubs too.

I still think Sewell will be part of Clarko's plans for this years finals. Sure he is 30 and nearing the end of his career, but he's an outstanding finals performer with a proven record to perform in big games.
If we can match/beat the Swans for grunt we will beat them on the spread, Sewell will be important on this basis.
