Yep won $100 on the crows on sportsbet. Very tense.

There were some interesting match ups last night, this being the most peculiar. Not only did buddy get hold of him, but it also curtailed Liquorlands game. Not sure what the answer is as I am certain Clarko does not want Gibbo doing it.

I was less concerned about who was standing Buddy for the majority of last night and more worried about why whoever was on him at any particular time thought it was wise to allow him 15m of free space. Have we not seen him play before? He goes quite alright. Space is the last thing he needs. Engage him in wrestles, deny his space and frustrate the crap out of him is the go. Allowing him 20 touches in space is just a guarantee to get him feeling great about how things are going.

According to the Swans autopsy thread:

1. Hodge is a dirty prick
2. Poppy is a dirty player
3. Gunston is a dirty player
4. Mitchell is a dirty player
5. Hawks fans are (insert insult here)
5. Swans fans are perfect and not at all blow-hards who have only heard about the game since 2005.
What sad, sad, sad, sad, sad little people they are.

When Buddy played for hawthorn and Gibson played for north 3.3 was a huge win to Gibbo.

Now Gibbo plays for hawthorn and buddy plays for the swans and 3.5 is a victory to buddy.

Ahhhh the media.

Always thought his 'record' v Buddy was over stated at North. As you say, he built it on 'keeping Buddy down' to 3.3 with about 9 other NM players all peeling off their opponents and helping out because we were so one dimensional in going to him.

Buddy tore him up more often than not.

Please bear in mind that Gibbo was coming back after a nine week break to just come in and play on one of the most unique and damaging forwards in the history of the game. Thought he did an outstanding job and, as one poster noted, for all his spoiling and one on one work his ability to run and his disposal makes him an absolute weapon in our structure.

In a few weeks we get Lake back and once Gibbo has some more games into him and re-establishes the connection with Lake then I'd hate to be playing against us

Regarding Schoenmakers, I'm fairly sure one of Tippett's goals came as a result of a Schoenmakers turnover to a Swans player and it was then kicked to Tippett who was being defended by Burgoyne.

Schoenmakers still looks like he is too easily out-positioned by key forwards. Playing a key defence role still looks unnatural to me, but to his credit, he won some key battles with Tippett in the second half last night.

I thought Gibbo was very good last night. In the first half, it seemed like Gibbo was the only one in defence who would consistently try to attack when in possession and I thought he did a reasonable job on Franklin who looked very threatening in the first half.

Spangher would have been the better match up for Buddy
Allowing Gibbo to roam free

Disagree. Spangher is a lionhearted player who will give his absolute best in every contest, but he tends to over-commit and once you do that against Franklin, you're toast.

That's the thing about Schoey this year - has looked awful in many many occasions,

But once again his opponent only kicks 2 goals.

We can't attribute poor goal kicking to Schoey - but it's happening every week. Even with the ugly turnover, being out bodied in marking contest etc his opponent didn't blow the game open.

Maybe he's become that ugly but effective guy.

The mercenary didn't know who to stand with after the game....for me it was "your not signing the footies Bozzo, piss off back to your red n white mates"

Deserves it.

All we hear constantly re Buddy is the following: "footy is a business"; "and we're all still mates".

It's supposed to kind of mitigate his deception.

But last night at the G laid the empty rhetoric bare. The crowd that once loved him, hate him now. And while he might still count Hawthorn players as mates, Buddy has lost something with them no matter what is said - he's ruthlessly sold out Hawthorn, and that's more than a club who employs you. It runs through the fabric of the relationships you have with all the players, the supporters, everyone associated with the club, and, as weird as this sounds, with the institution of the club itself. Just like you can't unboil an egg, you can;t change this.

And, I for one, love it. He sold us out for nothing. Held out. Ensured we got nothing, and collected his big pay day. But what he truly craves, the adulation of the biggest stage, the crowd at the home of footy, is gone. And in the process he's been disowned - to varying degrees - by all those who once loved him at Hawthorn.

He knows it. We all know it.

Last night confirmed it.

Wasn't talking last so much as his perceived record v Buddy overall.

Meanwhile, he spent the night at Gibbo's.

Interesting comparison. Whereas Rioli is trying to break from his opponents, Breust is a strong 1v1 player and a fend off beast so perhaps is more suited to succeed against a physical opponent who is allowed to get away with a bit.

When Rioli is back who do $wans have for Bruest? I'm licking my lips just thinking about this

I think it will certainly provide a certain underlying motivation that Clarko will pull the trigger on at some point. The card was not played last night, and maybe the right piece of the puzzle was not there to carry out Clarko's instructions. I am sure those instructions will come when the time is right though.

Just on Gibbo, his record on Buddy last night wasn't 3.5. Litherland was on him early and based on the highlights package I just watched he was definitely on him for the first goal. Buddy's second goal was over the back of a pack so it's unclear who was standing him as both Litherland and Gibbo were there. Gibbo was definitely on him for his third goal as he said post game he took responsibility to stay on him for the entire second half - and he was standing right next to him. So in the end Buddy only kicked 2 at best on Gibbo, one over the back of the pack that landed in his lap and the other was an unlucky bounce for Gibbo (but credit to Buddy for having the athleticism to take advantage of it).

As for the "Five behinds, so what if he had kicked straighter?!" claims from Sydney supporters... Look at where those behinds were kicked from. Four, if not all five, were from quite tight angles. Not unlucky misses, just straight up difficult shots he didn't make. Credit to our defense to only allow him so many marks inside 50 from such tight angles.
