Congrats to Hill! I certainly didn't think he would get many (any) games this year. He is clearly an amazing athlete as was demonstrated at the Draft Camp by breaking a few records there. The big slow on him was his disposal and finding the ball. I remember reading that someone at Hawthorn said he was often in the right positions but just not given the ball so they think this disposal tally could easily rise.

I wonder whether he would have debuted this round if the game was anywhere but Perth? Bit of a pessimistic view but I'm sure it is partly to keep him happy and reduce the 'go home factor'.

Would love to see him and Smith on either wing. We will need to improve our spread from the contests against the faster sides!

Good luck young fella!

No. But if he performs, we're in for further selection headaches.

Am not expecting much to be honest. If he can manage a few touches, I'll be happy.
Whats the point of playing a bloke if the best we can hope for is a few touches, if you are good enough to get a game for the Hawks then I would expect that you are expected to play well, to win these games we cant have passengers getting a few touches, if thats the case they should pick someone else.

Mostly sunny, 10 - 22 degrees for Saturday.

Forecast of winds around 23km per hour at 3pm (Freo Doctor?). 30% chance of rain, but under 1mm, so I doubt there will be rain.

Thier Sunday forecast is mostly sunny 10 - 25 degrees too.

Thanks for that Changa10 :thumbsu:

I said about 30min before it was announced that Hill might play... now he is playing! :thumbsu: :D

Would have thought against the Eagles they'd go Changa instead of Hill.

Problem with Changa now is that we don't want the ball in his hands. Slow, fumbly and turn overs. Was always a favourite and he still runs his guts out but just seems to have lost it.

Only spot I see is as a run with these days.

Sad but true, I always thought that he would struggle ultimately with his leg speed and durability in his latter years. I never thought his skills would decline so much, he struggles to gather simple hand-passes now :(

Sincerely hope Brad turns out better than Stephen

Congrats to the boy getting an early debut. Does seem a little strange to bring him in for a game like this, but nevertheless hope he does well (Not too well, though)

In:
Hill Hodge BOWman

Out:
Cheney Breust Young

make it Happen!

Had McCauley... but i tend to agree with the posters who think we should have Roughy in there instead. Go the big ROUGH!

So do I my brother lives in WA and is a Freo man. The sledging would give me hours of fun.:thumbsu:

Yeah good luck to the young man. The coaches have clearly seen something here. To bring him in for his debut against quality opposition is a good sign they have a high opinion of him.

Out: Breust, Birchall(not sure about him)
IN: Hill, Murphy (if birchall out)

No Hodge yet I don't think... Will be back next week though.

I'm quietly confident about this game. Who have The Eagles beaten? Three teams that haven't won a game between them?

Don't understand why everyone here seems to forget Smith. If fit he should replace Bruest, with Hodge (if fit) in for Ossie. A spot might be found for Hill, but I suspect he isn't quite ready yet.

West Australian located Roo's fan here...

Interested how tall your backs are...with fine weather predicted, the eagles Big Men will be in their element...

You will obviously have Hodge dropping back and trying to fill up the space, but Kennedy, and Darling are big, hard running lead up players. Add to that the Cox/Natinui combo in the square...and Hill isn't small either.

I know Gibson is undersized, although he plays tall, what about your other key position backs?

Good luck to Hill. I'm surprised he's been selected for the senior side this early in his career. H'e been doing well at BHH tho, and he gets to make his debut in his home state in front of his family.

You have to wonder where this leaves players like Savage, Smith, Young. Four guys that all play those outside 'wing' positions, but generally only two will make the side. Hawks want depth in all positions, of course, but for their own sakes, I wouldn't be astonished if a couple of them were considering requesting trades to another club, where they would be walk-up selections.

So, Hill in (for Broost), and Hodge still unlikely to play. Maybe no other changes.

Oh... McCauley has to come in, surely Shirley. I suppose Changa or Young would have to make way.

Poppy would be a great in. Is he ok to go?

Sad to say, but would rather see Hill in the side than Changa. Chance is just about done from the looks of the way he is going about it these days.

Congrats Brad Hill. I would like to see Smith and either Bouman or McCauley come in also. With Smith and Hill adding extra run on the large ground, this gives us the opportunity to rest our big men on the bench, and possibly being fresher than Cox and Nit Nat as the game wears on. Outs, Bruest, Changa and Cheney (very unlucky) or Young.

With Hodge and Pop nearly ready, and Bruest and Cheney trying to get their spots back, this pressures all players to perform at their best. A great position to be in. However, I agree with those who think some fringe players will want better chances in the future, and look for trades.

They are small, as much as we tried they didn't grow in the off season.
