Except Russell Jackson was so intent on burning anyone and everyone that the ABC had to instruct him into offering an apology (however petulant) to Sonya Hood.

You can't possibly tell me that Jackson has behaved professionally?
I remember Caroline Wilson even expressed surprise that the ABC ran with the story given the lack of hard evidence Jackson actually possessed.

It tells you a fair bit when an ambulance chaser / muck raker like Caro expresses reservations.

Pretty obvious that the ABC uses a very heavy moral / political / social filter these days which is affecting their ability to deliver impartial journalism (they are as bad as Sky News in their own way).

This is not an accurate summary of the ABC. By a long shot.
Yes you are right.

Sky News are at least up front in stating their political allegiance.

The current ABC is a sad caricature of what it once was. It used to be about providing quality content for the entirety of Australia.

Now it is just Arts Graduates who live within a 10km radius of the CBD and love a deconstructed Almond Latte and latching onto whatever progressive cause is the flavour of the day.

Come at me if you disagree, we all know it's true.

i love it when campaigners run with this narrative. They weirdly never address the reasons why the abc is a shadow of its former self though.

wonder why?

This article sums it up nicely.

How good is the Bolt Report, Credlin and my personal favourite, Paul Murray Live. Would you say you represent their target audience, the quiet Australian?

The ABC is currently the least left leaning I have ever seen it lol
Please.

I watched some of their coverage of the The Voice referendum on voting night and I'm still amazed at their total lack of insight into why it failed so badly.

Because of course they all think exactly the same and can't wrap their heads around the fact that people in say Traralgon struggling to pay a mortgage have very different priorities to those in Northcote on a nice six figure government salary.

Currently the ABC places a very heavy social filter over their reporting, they are reporting the news as how they think it should be (ie acting as activists) instead of reporting the news as it actually is (ie acting as journalists).

Rusty's "article" was a classic example of this in practise.

There were no questions about mortgages on the referendum paper?

I know people down Traralgon way.
Mortgages there are cheap and that was so NOT the issue.
My Nephew and his partner just bought a place pretty easily ( i think its in Churchill ) while working mundane sort of jobs, while my daughter in the burbs of Melbourne is despairing that she'll ever own a place.

Daughter voted "yes" i think, i doubt that my Nephew did.

You're sitting here saying that people are wrong about the reasons, but you'd be guessing.

I don't reckon anyone with a mortgage in Northcote is feeling comfortable at the moment lol

Off topic and getting silly.
Some of them could well have taken out their mortgage 15-20 years ago.
None of them have to live in Northcote.

Well then why the hell are we talking about people on cosy 6 figure government contracts living in Northcote, as if that's:
A) True
B) Has any bearing on this referendum

The reason people from the city are concentrated on is because Australia is highly urbanised and city folk make up 90%+ of our population.

Been a while since I've kept track of whats happening but would it be fair to summarise that
A/ the allegations are probably true or have remnants of truth that should be discovered in full.
B/ that because of how they came out, the allegations and people making them are no longer overly important and instead Clarko and co are now the victims.

As Sammy would say...Oh well.

Now this is real white privilege.

Oh God. Make a list of factual errors, character assassinations, and plain old lies from Murdoch and co that they REFUSE to apologise for.

Article 1: they apologised for biased coverage of Alice Springs

Article 2: they apologised for their involvement in the yes campaign

Article 3: they pay tax payer money for defamation against a soldier

Article 4: they apologise for biased coverage of coronation

Article 5: abc journalist acts unprofessionally and doesn’t apologise

Article 6: abc settled another defamation case for poor reporting

Article 6: abc issues 3 seperate apologies

Article 7: abc issues an apology for inaccurate reporting

Article 8: abc employee issued apology for dangerous misinformation

Article 9: abc apologises for biased coverage of transgender issues

9 issues. In 18 months.

But it’s sky news and Murdoch’s fault.

Good one

Going by your list here, it sounds like an organisation that actually has editorial standards and is prepared to call out its own faults when mistakes are made.

So maybe we should be celebrating their integrity instead?

Going by the list they have continually been forced to apologise for poor reporting standards or paid tax payer money to settle defamation suits.

Not sure we live in a bizzaro world where that is a good thing.

But nothing would surprise me in 2023

Every news source issues retractions all the time. This isn't some "gotcha" on the ABC lol

It's not the national broadcaster's fault that Australia is the defamation capital of the world. The laws as they stand are simply an unworkable mess for anyone except for plaintiffs and their lawyers. You will struggle to find even a conservative ABC-bashing personality who thinks they're fit for purpose. Media professionals from the States and the UK are often shocked when they discover how much of a burden they are upon those seeking to exercise freedom of speech in this country. Furthermore, I'd suggest the amount of successful defamation cases against the ABC are comparable to other media organisations, bearing in mind that the ABC quite simply produces more content across TV, radio and online than any other outlet.
