Autopsy Hawthorn v Geelong - opposition supporters coming to troll will be carded

I just listened to Clarkson's post game press conference. They man is smart and knows what is going on. He puts it down to three things: skills, coaching and confidence. He hits the nail on the head there.

He also said he just waiting for something to be the spark. Something to make it all click. And it will happen like that. There will be a moment when it all comes together. And then the skills will pick up and sides will be punished, as he said. I believe he's right about that.

So te beatings will continue until morale improves. Let's hope the spark is lit before too long. That was a brutally demoralising finish yesterday.

(And all the concern trolls demonstrating how much they care by slagging every member of the club or saying Mitchell/Lewis like a scratched record can go get ****ed. The game sucks enough, there's no appreciation for your bad attitude as well.)

Agreed he hasn't had much but our recent 3-4 drafts ( Burton aside) have been poor even with what have had.

I'd like to know what you excell at champ.

I don't have any expectations for the rest of this season, just hope that we don't become the first side since the 22 round season was introduced in 1970 to go 0-22. We've already had two duck egg seasons in our history (1928 and 1950), but those were in 18 round seasons.

I choose to be optimistic. So we can only get better.... Wether it be next week, next month, next year or the next time we play an unbeatable Geelong in a grand final.

Majority of our young players are simply garbage, going to be very long 4-5 years and people will eventually good on board with Graeme Wright being overrated.
Majority of our young players have played less than 20 games of football, and you're potting them and calling them garbage.

Nice.

Watched the game yesterday from behind the punt road goals.
Structure as has been noted is an issue.
IMHO even at times when players tried to take the game on, the breakdown occurred because there was no run into space and said players have been singled out for poor disposal.
We have had much tougher times than losing four games in a row.

21 years ago we were almost run out of town.

Time to put the nose to the grindstone and concentrate on the things we can control.

And letting the 'outside' noise distract us isn't going to help in working through this road block on the way to more success

At the risk of being eviscerated, my view is that our excellent assistant coaching team has been whittled down over time and is no longer functioning.

Apart from Ratten, who I think is really good, the assortment of ex-Demon coaches plus DC does not seem to be working. Losing Fages is also a huge blow.

The constant theme on our board is "how have these great players gone backwards or forgotten their skills" ?

I think it's happening because they don't understand the game plan or they don't have faith in their teammates or coaches.

That's a coaching problem.
Not an unreasonable theory

I'm with you, let's support the club during a time when they need all the supporters to be with them, not against them.

I've booked tickets for the Tassie and Sydney games in May.

I'm looking forward to getting there and backing them.

Go Hawks!

Agreed he hasn't had much but our recent 3-4 drafts ( Burton aside) have been poor even with what have had.

We have had extraordinary success and Wrighty has been a key figure in that, some of the trades have been masterstrokes, look at the Silk, Lake and Hale trades, we don't win flags without those moves.

There has also been some monumental **** ups that we are now paying for, I can't help but to think if we shied away from trying to recruit the athletes and teach them footy then we would be in a better position.

The TOB drafting was a head scratcher, what he is producing now is exactly the type output he was giving at under 18 level. Hartung pick was poor, have a look at some of the players drafted after him - Merrett, Mcstay, Nankervis, Dumont, Hewett, Barass, Alir, Fantasia, Hunt, Amon, Laird.. All those guys would add significantly more, it's grim reading. The Howe pick is still up in the air but how handy would a guy like Blakely be right now? Or a Mitch Mcgoven or Jack Lonie? I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we haven't made the most of our recent earlish draft picks.

We need to consider trading some established guys to regenerate the list, we need to get into the draft and get in as early as possible, consider drafting footballers first rather than elite athletes or runners.

I have followed the Hawks since the 1950s and have watched the good times and the bad times. Most importantly I have celebrated 13 premierships in my lifetime which I suspect no opposition supporter can claim.
Unlike some other posters I am looking forward to the rebuild over the next few years as I have during previous rebuilds. Watching kids like Matthews Knights Franklin Mitchell and Hodge grow into champions of the game is part and parcel of supporting your club. I have no doubt Clarkson will rebuild this team and I expect to celebrate another premiership before my time expires. I am planning to make regular trips to BoxHill this year to look at Cousins, Nash, Glass and Hanrahan. It is a long drive from the Mornington Peninsula but I am looking forward to seeing our future up close.

Did Langers even play? He did nothing. Shiels has been infinitely better than Langers all year....without having been particularly good himself.

A lot of our supporters have a really weird love affair with Langers I don't get.

Did you watch the 3rd quarter? Langers and Hodge were the reason we fought back. I have no love affair with Langers, I'm merely pointing out at the moment, he's one of the few putting his head over it and playing Clarko football (going when it's his turn).

Is Will Langford going to be the answer moving forward? Probably not, unless he's surrounded by 2-3 A grader users and then you can either hide him or he might not get a game. But the last two weeks, Langford has kept fighting, kept trying and in the hole we are in atm, that's all you ask from your bottom tier players. There's several blokes getting paid a lot more than Will Langford, with 2-3 Premiership medals doing a lot less.

I don't get the love affair with Premiership medals and past deeds giving senior players an out. If only they copped half the hysteria Vickery and Langford do on this board it would be refreshing. But that is half the problem with Hawthorn, too many people comfortable with and living in the past.

Shiels was useless tyesterday. No leadership and very poor disposal efficiency!

Brilliant paragraph

The expectation has been set.

Don't come back here next week to bitch and whinge about the side when they fall in a heap again. You've said it yourself, we are cooked.

I'll be over here thankful that the reason our boys are so cooked is a direct consequence of just how many times they tasted the ultimate glory.

Fair enough. I know my frustration and the frustration of some of the other "the sky is falling" crew is the fact that some did call this last year and were subjected to abuse. I know I've received some direct correspondence with some unhelpful advice and there has been what, 2-3 threads calling out the doomsayers.

I'm also frustrated that the realist point of view was met with "It's only JLT", followed by "It's only Round x". Then when that failed, you're called UnHawthorn, not a real fan or even told to go follow another club.

This is an opinion board and respectfully identifying an era is over (last year after the Melbourne game) or a player should retire is not any of the above. It's simply taking the rose colored glasses off and calling it how we see it. Trust me, I take no delight in being right, but you want to talk vitriol, then look no further than anyone that doesn't drink the Koolaid.

Yesterday was necessary for the Koolaid drinkers, Clarko and the media to get final confirmation that it's over and the excuse or hiding behind past deeds will not win you football games. I guess I'll now only continue to "bitch and whinge" should the same senior players that are cooked get picked instead of truly playing the kids. I'll also get annoyed when easy targets like Langford or Vickery get slated when the captain and two vice captains have been very ordinary this season and really, only Rough gets an out!

Surely now is the time the axe swings with some vigour? The ability to compete at the top end is gone, let's see if we have any relevant talent that can be part of generation next?

I can deal with a Cousins error or a Hardwick holding the ball, or a missed handball by Jono. What I can't stand is a Shiels missing target after target by foot and hand, giving away stupid free kicks and literally making completely irrational decisions. I mean you can single players out all day, what we need to see is those guys being held accountable. If you don't perform the level expected of a premiership player and that is happening week in week out then you're out, our coaches are far to lenient, you look at the demands of NFL coaches and how cut throat it is, half of our list would out of jobs by now.

drink the Koolaid
I think half the problem is that people not joining the 'Gibbo is cooked - yeah so is Birchall!' bandwagon are labelled as drinking the koolaid.

You're effectively doing the thing you are complaining about, just in the other direction.

We're all outsiders, none of our analysis is contributing to the next Hawthorn premiership.

That's not really a surprise though, the past is looking a hell of a lot rosier than the future so can't blame people for resisting.

Interesting that you mention Hanrahan....he looks to have a little bit of X-factor that can hopefully be developed.
