We have had extraordinary success and Wrighty has been a key figure in that, some of the trades have been masterstrokes, look at the Silk, Lake and Hale trades, we don't win flags without those moves.

There has also been some monumental **** ups that we are now paying for, I can't help but to think if we shied away from trying to recruit the athletes and teach them footy then we would be in a better position.

The TOB drafting was a head scratcher, what he is producing now is exactly the type output he was giving at under 18 level. Hartung pick was poor, have a look at some of the players drafted after him - Merrett, Mcstay, Nankervis, Dumont, Hewett, Barass, Alir, Fantasia, Hunt, Amon, Laird.. All those guys would add significantly more, it's grim reading. The Howe pick is still up in the air but how handy would a guy like Blakely be right now? Or a Mitch Mcgoven or Jack Lonie? I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we haven't made the most of our recent earlish draft picks.

We need to consider trading some established guys to regenerate the list, we need to get into the draft and get in as early as possible, consider drafting footballers first rather than elite athletes or runners.

Lots of players with middling form at VFL level can be significantly better than that at AFL level, and lots of players who dominate at VFL level can be middling at AFL level
Not everyone's game translates in both directions

I went for a look when it was first announced and was sorely disappointed although there was one that suggested it was a bit rich to call for games for prestons hit on Hodge, when Hodge has made a career of it. Closest there was to outrage

The structures at box hill were shot last year due to injuries
TOB, Sis and Brand were playing senior footy
Spang, Fitz and Schoey were injured
Until late in the year when Surman had something resembling fitness and those other blokes came back to push for or play senior footy you had a bunch of first and second year players with most structural positions filled by box hill listed players

Very tough year for any of those Hawks kids to be dominant and out their hand up for selection

Fair enough. I know my frustration and the frustration of some of the other "the sky is falling" crew is the fact that some did call this last year and were subjected to abuse. I know I've received some direct correspondence with some unhelpful advice and there has been what, 2-3 threads calling out the doomsayers.

I'm also frustrated that the realist point of view was met with "It's only JLT", followed by "It's only Round x". Then when that failed, you're called UnHawthorn, not a real fan or even told to go follow another club.

This is an opinion board and respectfully identifying an era is over (last year after the Melbourne game) or a player should retire is not any of the above. It's simply taking the rose colored glasses off and calling it how we see it. Trust me, I take no delight in being right, but you want to talk vitriol, then look no further than anyone that doesn't drink the Koolaid.

Yesterday was necessary for the Koolaid drinkers, Clarko and the media to get final confirmation that it's over and the excuse or hiding behind past deeds will not win you football games. I guess I'll now only continue to "bitch and whinge" should the same senior players that are cooked get picked instead of truly playing the kids. I'll also get annoyed when easy targets like Langford or Vickery get slated when the captain and two vice captains have been very ordinary this season and really, only Rough gets an out!

You're not unhawthorn, you're not sky is falling, you're just whining. You're whining about where Hawthorn is at, you're whining about the fact people haven't enjoyed your whining, and you're whining about how people who don't like the constant whiners you get on richmond and carlton boards treat you for constantly whining.

To put that into perspective the last time it happened was the 1980's. Hawthorn of course

The last time before that was Melbourne in the 50's and before that Collingwood in the 30's.

Everyone is going to take pleasure in smacking Hawthorn down and no one is going to give the credit that is due. But we have just witnessed history and one day the rest of the footy world will catch up.

When your team is getting beat up like that every free that goes the other way or that is missed for your side stings more, but on average that game was no worse than any other for umps influence.

I havent heard Clarko say that he was leaving just media crap, and i also agree with Clarko that our form is all above shoulders. The team is lacking so much confidence in their game.We cant have lost that much skill since last year, we were only a kick away from another pre lim.
