How do we cover the loss of Hille?

tbh
Watson is a VERY indecisive player, i reckon due to the fact he's afraid that if he kicks it, he'll spit it out and get berated by supporters.

Couldn't disagree more. His poise is second to none. Most clearances leading to goals in the AFL, according to channel 10 on Saturday.

I love how he can just stop when he has no option, stand, look around, wait, and then go to the option when it presents.

Bellchambers will have to come in and offer support. The suggestion of using Hooker as a back up ruckman cause his mobility, doesn't grab me. Cale isn't that well built and I'd prefer him to continue his development in his current role.

Bock would have to get elevated off the rookie list - even though he is nowhere near ready to play AFL. He might get a taste of AFL this year after all.

I presume we won't see Laycock until the second half of the season, after gets conditioning and match practice with Bendigo.

The old mid season draft would've been handy this year. :thumbsu:

The thought of using Hooker as a pinch hit ruckman will give me nightmares tonight similar to that joyous day when Sheeds played Reynolds on Fevola.

Bellchambers is our ruckman next in line and should be given every opportunity.

Whenever he's played AFL he hasn't disgraced himself and gives an honest contest. Sometimes that's all you need.

Ryder for now, maybe bring in Bellchambers, Laycock (sadly) is he's fit. Oh, yeah, there's Bock too. Come Trade Week, hopefully we can grab a high pick to get a ruckman or maybe even get one from another team.

This is the ultimate injury nightmare situation for us. As sensational as yesterday's win was,we are in big trouble if they flog Paddy and make him ruck all day for the rest of the season. As young and fit as young paddy is, it's a big ask too expect him to follow the ball around all day.

But then again, maybe it's possible.

Couldn't they put him on some kind of modified training program with the aim of reducing his work load -running wise- and have him play on the ball all day?

If he needed 6 or 7 minutes break, put him in the goal square, not on the bench, and let him just play as a (very) tall forward that might kick a goal or two...?

Bellchambers could be used very sparingly off the bench and play 30 to 40 minutes on the ground during a game.

But maybe Ryder does have the engine to ruck all day like he did against Collingwood. But we can't afford to have him injured or else we are truly stuffed..

I wouldn't want Paddy rucking for an entire match. It's not every week he'll come up against Fraser.... Unfortunately.

If he pulls up ok this week and with Brisbane's current ruck situation, he can ruck the whole game against Clark.

long-term, obviously Bellchambers is the go-to guy in relation to 2nd ruckman, however this week I reckon they'll go with Hooker. This is up until/if/when whatever Laycock comes back. Apparently on BomberTV they said Laycock will resume running this week, so hopefully Hooker/Bellchambers only need to cover for 5-6 weeks best case scenario.

A mix of what we are up against both in a ruck sense, and that fact hooker has played as well as anyone (it sounds like) at VFL level as a key defender means not only can he help Paddy, but he can be thrown down back should things get ugly with Brownshaw.

Not sure if Daniher is back this week? That may play a part too I guess.

Although the loss of Hille very well could hurt us in our quest for the finals, it excites me to think Laycock could (if he gets his body right) have the responsbility as our number 1 ruckman in the second half of the year. Paddy was brilliant on Saturday, but whether he can maintain that level for the rest of the season remains to be seen. I always thought that Laycock seemed to play his best football when he had added responsibility, with Hille either injured or suspended. It's generally accepted he posesses the skills and ability, but the mental part of his game always lets him down. The added responsibilty seems to help him with this.
Hopefully this disaster can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Of Paddy and Bellchambers our two best ruck options ATM neither is very conditioned to play an entire game in the ruck. Getting one of them to play a lone hand in the ruck increases the risk of one of them getting injured. I think they should both share the load.

On a side note, I wish that Hille had have gotten the chance to line up Dale Thomas before going down.

Looks like Hille is out for 12 months.
Round 6 next season from what they said on the chan 10 news update and on 'One week at a time'.

I am shattered.
Hope all goes well for the tank.

Bellchambers should come in,
bit worried with Laycock still...
but he might step up (you hope).

I feel so guttered. :(

Utter bullshit.

Watson is a good enough player to wait for the right option, even under extreme pressure.

Incorrect.

Chest pass to Monfries ring a bell?

Probably why i came to the conclusion he was indecisive. I mean, i noticed it several times, and it seemed he couldnt find a guy to pass to.

I think our best option is clearly Bellchambers and Ryder. Preferably I think with one rucking with the other as either loose man in defense or standing CHB and letting Fletcher play loose. Not 100% certain of Bellys ability to defend but feel we definitely need another big body down their with Fletcher and the kid we have playing.
