With a first wicket partnership like that I would have thought they would be dissapointed with how they have followed it up.

Will only win by 100 runs now.

Zimbabwe are a shadow of the team they had in the 1999 World Cup when they were almost on par with the major test playing nations.

Although we were resting a couple of players around 2001 they fell just 1 run short of chasing 301 against Australia at the WACA, was a great game.

Gayle out, Sammy playing at 7.
Russell making his ODI debut.
Anyone else think the irish have a big chance of winning this today?

If Ireland win tonight and South Africa lose to India Group B will become very interesting. Right now India is the only team who has pretty much guaranteed their spot. Group A is fixed with placings only on the line.

They really need to look at how they use the rankings to make groups (or is it semi-random?) as Group B is significantly stronger then A.

I think England may have missed a trick with the call up to replace Kevin Pietersen's spot in the world cup:

I would have gone with Alastair Cook to put in Pietersen's spot

Why not? Cook is an opener, Pietersen was an opener, Strauss can have a go against the bowling whereas Cook can sheet anchor

however Tremlett replacing Broad is the right move...

I'm pretty sure it was drawn up with Group A having teams 1,4,5,8,9,12,13 and Group B 2,3,6,7,10,11,14...but this was done quite a while ago, when Kenya and Zimbabwe were both ranked above Ireland

Drawn up today, it would be

Group A: Australia, South Africa, England, Bangladesh, West Indies, Netherlands, Kenya
Group B: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Canada

They couldn't have had India and Sri Lanka in the same group though so they would have had to fudge it somehow. This way Sri Lanka gets to play all their matches at home.

You would think Ireland have a chance to chase down 5 and a half runs an over

However it looked quite difficult for batting initially which is where you needed an innings by Devon Smith for the West Indies, this calls for a sheet anchoring effort by Porterfield or Stirling to start off the Irish innings
