Surely Daryl Harper is better than Bucknor or Dar? Or can't you umpire your own country in the World Cup?

I'd imagine neutral umpires would be required in a World Cup, especially a semi. I'm not too impressed with our umpy lineup!

You can't, and he isn't. Koertzen doesn't really deserve a spot on recent performances but was always going to get it on experience.

any get payed a fair amount as well..
during the recent commonwealth bank series, i know it was about $900 Australian to be 4th umpire, would be interesting to see how much it is for the semi-final, let alone a world cup game!!

Oh yes he is.

And I still reckon that neutral umpires are a waste of time. Surely appointing the best umpires is the way to go, test cricket included. The huge international exposure, media scrutiny and tv coverage is enough to stop the home crowd decisions. It's not as though we play in mysterious, far away lands with only print media coverage anymore.

Paul Reiffel was 4th umpire at the Boxing Day test. My mate and I gave him a rousing reception every time he came onto the field. He would also spend each break in play standing near the pitch. We theorised that he was basically a bouncer for the umpires.
