Why do they call it turf toe? I know it's a sprain of ligaments in the toe but is it from kicking the ground?

Shitty way to get an injury.

Kennedy (calf) 1 week
Tunbridge* (knee) 1 week
Venables (toe) 2-3 weeks
Rioli (hamstring) 4-5 weeks
Waterman (foot) 4-5 weeks
Naitanui (knee) Late 2017 season
Allen (foot) TBC

Aw man in the last update video they said Allen would have been right to play if there wasn't a bye didn't they? All these young guys can't catch a break.

“Matty has, unfortunately, suffered a setback in the course of his rehab. It’s looking like it could be a major setback, but we’ve sent him for scans and to see a specialist. We’re not going to know for another short period until we get those results back and get a specialist’s opinion, but it’s looking like it will be an extended period of absence.”

Sounding like the former.

Honestly I'd rather they'd just make something up (just say he's out with soreness) and at least acknowledge he isn't playing rather than say nothing and hope no one notices.

I get there may be legitimate reasons that they might not want to disclose the actual reason but leaving it unexplained just invites conjecture.

It's supposed to be a professionally run football club ffs

Has Giles been playing for EP since he was dropped from the AFL side?
Played against South Fremantle (punched Petries kick through for the winning point) but missed the West Perth game before the bye

I've seen him at training but he's not been mentioned on the injury list despite missing a game

Giles is an interesting one. From here I cant see him ever playing for the Eagles again. With another year still on his contract I wonder if he will retire at the end of the year and they pay him out.

I had to look it up, as I wasn't familiar with the term for the injury. Derived from American footballers playing on artificial grass surfaces (AstroTurf) that tend to be harder and less shock absorbent.

Considering his history with foot problems, this will not be something taken lightly by the team doctors. Could be an extended break for DV.

So this probably means he won't be playing for EP either when he desperately needs match practice.

**** it

In a bizarre season full of bizarre results and bizarre selections, this tweet may be the most bizarre yet.

It better be a damned near life-threatening cut in order to keep out our best available ruck option if he is otherwise fit.

There's an expression Everton fans like to use when something happens that is so very typical of the club, such as panic signing poor players last minute after sitting on our heels all transfer window.

'Everton, that.'

Venables getting injured just as it seems we were about to see him debut, giving us a glimmer of hope for the future?

West Coast, that.

This is like the fifth post in a row I've had to remind myself this isn't Dark Sharks as he used to have that avatar.
