What is there to lose with O'Rourke as a DFA for a year? His most recent injury was an ankle, unrelated to the hamstring problems, and if he can get fit he's a quick, skilful balanced midfielder. Still only early 20s a well. Classic low risk, high reward. I'd rather give him a shot for a year than commit to pick 96 for 2 years going into a super draft.

Seconded, there must have been something there to go as early as he did. A year on a cheap contract for a young player with 'potential', why not.

I agree. Both he and lennon. Must be something there. As you say it is low risk high reward type stuff. Especially as both have had terrible luck with injuries.

FFS people.

If a young former number 2 draft pick midfielder has some great untapped potential and is a better than even chance of rehabilitation do you think hawks are just going to let him walk?
They did just sign Tyrone Vickery.

I watched a game in 2016 against Tigers Jonno was tagging Dusty and he kept him quiet and actually got good ball going the other way for Hawks. We have made more out of less players at North

Exactly. There is a reason those clubs are letting these spuds go.

It's not like a Marley situation where personality clash etc with no question over ability but pushed out, these guys simply aren't good enough.

Hawthorn look like delisting O'Rourke and rookie listing him. They haven't given up on him by any means, but once they've delisted him we can jump in early and grab him either early in the rookie draft ala STK on Delaney or as a DFA.

It is a classic honey trap.

Didn't somebody here just say we did one good thing in trade week, which was to avoided any deals with Hawthorne. They're just too bloody sneaky for North.

Geelong did that

Lamb and Wellingham have been delisted.

Experienced pair Sharrod Wellingham and Josh Hill are among the list changes made by the West Coast Eagles today in preparation for next month’s draft.

Wellingham, a 2010 premiership player at Collingwood, and Hill both struggled for opportunities this year, with Wellingham playing 13 games and Hill 12 from a possible 24.

Along with young forward Tom Lamb and rookies Tom Gorter and Jordan Snadden, they will not be offered contracts.

Wellingham joined West Coast in 2013 after 92 games with Collingwood and played a further 79 for the Eagles, while Hill came to the club a year earlier after 66 games with the Western Bulldogs and played a further 107 with West Coast.

“I would like to thank each of the players for their efforts and contributions to the football club over varying periods of time,” General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo said today.

“This is a tough time of the year when difficult decisions are made and I would particularly like to acknowledge both Sharrod and Josh.

“They are senior players who have had a significant impact at the club over their time and both played in our 2015 Grand Final.

“I would like to wish each of the players every success in what ever awaits them in the next phase of their lives.”

Lamb played one senior game with the club in 2015, while Gorter has been delisted after just 12 months on the rookie list and Snadden spent two seasons as a rookie.
