I kind of felt bad for Noble getting sacked at North even though he fully deserved it. Reading all this rehashing of the Dangerfield trade has me seething though. * that guy.
Yeh and he only got sacked cos clarko was available what a sad turn of events it will be if they have to sack clarko cos AFL deregisters him and fagan

i believe that would be called karma dr hood

Murray not moblie enough for 3rd interceptor, I reckon

Worrell is, but I can also see him turning into an offensive intercepting KPD once he gains a bit more size. Can play the 3rd intercepting tall role, too

If you're looking for a ready-made option that's not Cox... sounds weird, but give me BZT from the Bombers
crow2crow what do you disagree with here?

Ive seen a bit of BZT here in melbourne and believe me we do not want.

We need someone I agree - b cox would be good but bit slow, c ballard would be very good if there was any way of getting him. is there anyone else?
Improved massively in the 2nd half of the year. I agree, prior to that

Ballard would be awesome but I don't believe he's out of contract for three more years yet?

He could have easily negotiated another first rounder given they gave one to Carlton the same period ... only a few years later they demanded 3 firsts from westcoast for a single player and refused a trade. That was the most ridiculous bending over we have ever seen, the trade was ridiculous. We should have matched straight away. Geelong are successful because they can constantly attract good players for well unders and get massive overs when players leave, and we just bend over.

The Crows seem happy to front end the Rankine deal due to cap space to push other teams away, Cats could not for Danger by the sounds of it.

I know I shouldn't get into this, but why do you think that?

Geelong had Stevie J, Jimmy Bartel, Corey Enright, Hamish McIntosh, James Kelly, Matthew Stokes and Jared Rivers ALL coming out of contract at the same time.

Why do you think there was zero chance of them making an unmatchable free agent offer? They had MASSIVE salary cap room

Whilst
If Rankine nominates ND, almost no chance Rankine gets picked up before Crows

On CPH1903 using BigFooty.com mobile app

Not sure this is true. The number one financial offer for Rankine was coming from Essendon, who have at least as much salary cap room as us, and an earlier pick.

we definitely aren't the best but we also aren't the worst

GWS just matched Jeremy Cameron and got 3, count them, 3 first round picks
Pick 20 was a 2nd, I think. (Edit - was a first, we ended up taking Brayden Cook at 25 with it)

Two late firsts and an early 2nd for Cameron and two 2nds.

Yes Ballard has at least a couple of years left on contract sadly. But to me he is what we need size, speed, kick, age, games - I know hes injured currently. Good mix of defence and intercept - I would go hard at him.

while we were busy taking mcpherson at 40, suns take ballard at 42. FFS how did we get that so so wrong... binuk? does your algorithm have public end-point API protection? or is your algorithm crap?

I cant think of anyone else from SA that fits the bill properly. If we look back the suns look more like the SA team than the crows currently and that is just a joke. And its all come about because our recruiters have been too heavily focussed on vic country and tassie rather than picking the eyes out of SA talent. the suns recruiters in my view have focussed on SA believing they are easier to retain than melbourne kids. whilst i think somebody has cottoned on and told hamish to "re-focus" its going to take a long time to correct the ship....

You forget 2020 a he couldnt bed the game plan as they werent able to train together so how you count that has me *ed
I appreciate 2020 but as a supporter waiting 5 years just to play finals (just 8th position) is unacceptable. In my opinion in Nicks 4th year we should be looking at least playing finals. In any otherworld sport Nicks would have been gone. This year should have been about getting quality players in to assist emerging talent. I am just hoping some of our kids improve enough this year to prove to me Nicks is on the right track.

You do know McPherson and Fogarty (taken the same year as Ballard) are both from SA...

Maybe we should have taken Sam Durdin the year before over Jake Lever. How did we stuff that one up!

You haven't seen enough improvement from Fogarty, Parnell, Berry, Soligo, etc?

Here is one of them. Too many blo00dy Marys clearly last night..

Moving on now after this. In summary. No argument, Crows should have got more (a second first rounder even though Megos argument re Cats ability to match cant be discounted in my view). However Crows GOT MORE for Danger contrary to ANY commentary I have ever heard on this board or in the media which always talks about the Cats '3 first rounders' whilst ignoring they were late first rounder and gave back 2 second rounders.

Have a good day A Team as I am about to be shafted work wise (literally may actually be preferable in this instance)

Once we began our rebuild in 2020 "officially", I genuinely didnt think we would make finals till the latter part of the 2020s. That admittedly may turn on its head, if we acquire, Rankine, Phillipou and JHF and if they deliver on their potential.

I respect your opinion, as I believe a lot of Crows on here believe the same as you do.

Ive always viewed Nicks as our rebuild coach, as to whether he can take us to finals remains to be seen.

Would be an interesting poll, on when posters think when we will play finals? 2023,2024,2025,...2030...? Many on here believed 2022.

I know we are not Carlton, but its been 10+ years for them. Melbourne too, during their rebuild took a long time to reach finals.

And McPherson was a talented junior in his own right, having broken into SA squad as a bottom ager in 2016.

Injuries really did a number there, but that's also the thing with later picks (3rd round onwards). For a lot of them, it's more about falling into the right club at the right time moreso then anything else.

And both had to tank heavily to get the better draft picks. We haven't had to tank, as our rapid decline since 2017 ensured we were already a basket case. I was one of the optimistic ones this year who thought we go close to the eight, but I'm less optimistic now. Main issue for me is that apart from Laird and Tex our seniors have declined badly (Smith, Brown in particular) and the likes of Doedee and Milera went backwards, and I can't see Seedsman fronting up again with his issues. If you look at the list profile we just don't have a solid group of players who contribute in the 50-100 or 100-150 game range. The upshot being that, even if our youngsters come on, it'll be a couple more years of no finals, before we become more of an instinctive, well structured unit. Rankine isn't going to improve us much IMHO, as our problems are more midfield-related. Need a good ruckman as well - and given RoB has just been rewarded with a best team man award, I think we're stuck with him, unfortunately. I'd actually prefer Murray in the ruck permanently, swapping with TT up fwd.

I am a bit more glass half full. I suspect Rachele after another solid preseason will be more consistent and his best is elite. Rankine will only add, Dawson is Dawson but its the guys like Soligo, Berry, Shoenberg, Pedlar and guys like Taylor that will really be the barometer. If they can keep improving than we have the makings of a promising young side.Of course we need Fog to keep building on his 2nd half of this year and Thilthorpe to step up and injuries to stay away to our key backs

Hope you're right! Would love nothing more than to see us make a quicker rise up the ladder. Schoey definitely has some class about him, but he'd want to lift his output next year. Pedlar just seems injury-prone, so hopefully Burgess can get him right, as he also brings some desperately needed class.

Port thinking about moving back in the draft so they can get picks next year, Freo interested in pick 8 to facilitate the Jackson deal, I reckon Port also think Phillipou will slip to them at pick 14ish

However if Freo offer this and next year's first I'd consider giving them 5 and we can use 14 for Rankine and a 2nd next year as we'll have two firsts already.

We are then primed for a better draft next year and or for JHF bid

Sounds like a number of clubs are happy to drop back this year and improve their possible draft hand for next year.

I am no expert but we need to make sure we hit the best drafts (top end /depth) with the most picks. I think Port have done that fairly well over the years.
