The hysteria because he mentioned pick 5 is hilarious. It was always going to be used. Reid will earn his money and if we can get anything back.

Oh no he announced it today instead next week. Calm down people seriously
Yes, this. I mean, I'd rather he hadn't volunteered anything, but really, at this stage I suspect he's not giving anything away that GCS don't already know - not necessarily that they're getting pick 5 alone, but either (a) we're going to get something back, or (b) pick 5 will be traded/split elsewhere and GCS get part of that.

If it's just a straight deal pick 5 for Rankine, then yes, that's a loss, but pick 5 is almost certainly going to be involved, it's just a question of what we get back.

Considering how good Reid has been in negotiating most deals in the past, it would be shitful to give away 5 or more.

It'll be absolutely annoying to hear the media and other clubs' supporters saying "of course it was at least 5".
What’s the chances once the trade goes down you defend it? A bit like the Keath trade ;)

IF it was as simple as #5 for Rankine ....or either an additional 3rd rd pick (a nothing pick) ......the Rankine deal should be completed early next week

The fact, Reid said the Crows and GC will talk again end of next week .....suggests we're chasing #25, which is not critical to GC's plans

If it's going to be pick 5, we need to get pick 25 back. Values Rankine at pick 15 and means we may get Rankine and Keeler for pick 5.

Pick 5 (or next years pick 5-7) was always going to be involved. And I think we may get better than 25 back.

What I took from his chat - we will have a very quiet trade and draft period this year. One more year of looking at what we have drafted and be far more aggressive next year

With the amount of contracts expiring and deadwood to clear, we will need a big draft hand next year to replenish the list

Not much in there really, outside of some expectation management with pick 5 and that it's going to be a (long overdue) quiet off-season. I.e. we're currently not looking at trading too many kids out/have no idea if they've been wooed or not.

Yes, with all those recent re-signings / contract lengths we've painted ourselves into a corner as far as this year is concerned, so I'd hope we have an eye on making sure we have draft capital next year.

That said, I'll be disappointed if we can't find a way of bringing in at least 2 new players this year, in addition to Rankine.

Reid yet again showing how good his negotiation skills are. Forget about JHF no way in hell these guys can beat Port in luring JHF to the AFC.

Why was 5 or our future first always going to be involved?

They have no leverage in the trade and frankly he isn’t worth it.

The only was 5 should be included is if a top ten pick is coming back. I don’t care if we don’t have any other pick in this draft, but we have to have an elite player and Rankine or we have shat the bed. We hold all the cards.

If that happens, Reid absolutely has to go.

Surely with negotiation you start lower than where you want to end up?
If we are starting at pick 5…
It’s not as if Gold Coast have any leverage.
It depends what we offer.

Draft picks mean so little to them, because they've been so consistently gifted them. So I think they COULD just let him go if we're offering something they can't use, and if he's in the PSD I think there's a reasonable chance Essendon take him.

Yeah right essendon will take a guy who puts 1.5 mill on a 1 year deal think your kidding yourself

I can’t see any club picking him up in the preseason draft, it just doesn’t happen.

What do you mean?

Reid did excellently with McGovern, with Dawson, with the pick trades.

Gibbs was a miss, but I liked that he at least moved a pick into a better draft, considering he was painted into a corner and seemed forced to do a deal.

I wish we got more for Keath, but the alternative was sending him to the PSD and getting nothing and we weren't in the "walk away from picks" stage.

One of the worst squads in the league is going to have a quiet draft and trade period. Nice.
Yeah I was disappointed with what Reidy had to say on trade radio this morning tbh. More pian to come next year by the looks to build a big hand for next year if we end up with JHF this time next year I'm all good. But there are no guarantees I'd had it in my head before hearing Reidy this morning we'd keep this year's pick 5 for top end big bodies powerful mid and pick up Poulter as well for steak knives and use our future 1st for Rankine.

We need that big bodied mid now, but it looks like we wait some more us Crews supporters have be waiting since we lost Danger.
