The end game will be midfield imo. IF he transitions then he could be the next Andy McLeod with his skillset. Its up to him how high he can go as he has the talent - does he have the application?Would take Rankine over every kid in this draft without question. No guarantee that any of this years top ten will be elite - Rankine is

Narkle aside, those players make them a much better side. Pickett is coming to port next year. Mark it down. Graham and Rioli are premiership players, both with elite traits.

Okay, they could have come up with an offer I suspect but it goes against everything we hear about how Geelong manages their salary cap, so there was a specific amount they wanted to pay. If they were to pay up big money, it would have messed with the list management side of things.I know I shouldn't get into this, but why do you think that?
Geelong had Stevie J, Jimmy Bartel, Corey Enright, Hamish McIntosh, James Kelly, Matthew Stokes and Jared Rivers ALL coming out of contract at the same time.
Why do you think there was zero chance of them making an unmatchable free agent offer? They had MASSIVE salary cap room
Not sure this is true. The number one financial offer for Rankine was coming from Essendon, who have at least as much salary cap room as us, and an earlier pick.
Think we’re hoping Soligo becomes one of those players, now"What do people expect?"
We've needed at least two young elite midfielders - with skills, and one with a big body - for five years.
We've done nothing about getting one, let alone two.
Drafting one next year just results in the window being 6-7 years from now.Think we’re hoping Soligo becomes one of those players, now
Then one in next year’s draft, or JHF if he decides to come home
You’d probably be looking at 2027 at the earliest yeah, by that point Dawson will be in his 30’sDrafting one next year just results in the window being 6-7 years from now.
It's poor list management.
"Much" better side.....?? The best 18-22 players are also consider premiership players, does that mean when 2 of them go to the other clubs it makes them a "much" better side and both with elite traits, only Rioli is when he is on.Narkle aside, those players make them a much better side. Why do people say ND no way in hell that happens it will be psd the reason being psd you have to match terms he puts on himself ie 1 year 1.5 mill nd you only have to match overall deal ie 5 years 4 millOkay, they could have come up with an offer I suspect but it goes against everything we hear about how Geelong manages their salary cap, so there was a specific amount they wanted to pay. With Rankine and the ND, clubs could have money but then not only would they be giving up one of the top 5 prospects in Australia, they will also pay big money to someone that is a massive flight risk.

Maybe he mistakenly thought Graham is Dunkley and Narkle is Pickett???Amon out, Rioli in. Not sure they are any better with that deal.
I'm not comfortable with our eggs being in JHFs basket. No doubt the AFL will step in and make him an ambassador or some bullshit. You’d probably be looking at 2027 at the earliest yeah, by that point Dawson will be in his 30’s
JHF at least puts the window a couple of years earlier (IF he develops into that player, of course)
I'd like to see a better attitude from him in games before I start thinking about selling the farm for him.I'm not comfortable with our eggs being in JHFs basket. No doubt the AFL will step in and make him an ambassador or some bullshit.
fair enough - FF 2022. he needs to be cut and paid out. wasting a spot.McPherson in his underage year was absolutely looking like a first rounder - I guess a lot can change so there's no guarantees, but he was looking like the best SA player in his draft class.
And that’s if he even wants to come backI'm not comfortable with our eggs being in JHFs basket. No doubt the AFL will step in and make him an ambassador or some bullshit.
This is what happens when Roo just appoints whoever he likes to key roles without a process. And that’s if he even wants to come back
We don’t have a whole lot of options, in other words. For this year, our eggs are in the Rankine basket, whether we like it or not
You have to wonder if the people complaining that they wanted other trades ON TOP of the Rankine one AND wanted us to trade for Rankine without using pick 5, have only themselves to blame. Talk about setting yourself up for disappointment.
Sometimes I wonder how the same club that won 1997 and 1998 resulted in the one we have today. It's okay, the club constantly disappoints me, I'm used to it
Is the high school kid Mad Flog Metro pretending he knows sh*t from shoe polish again?
I’m sorry I missed that.

We have gone to the draft for the last few years and the club thinks we are better with Rankine than taking another first rounder.. that is not to say we will not have some thing coming back our way.And that’s if he even wants to come back
