I just had lunch with Clarko and a former ex-president of ours I’m generally the last one to post this sort of stuff when it arises as I don’t like to big note, so take it for what it is.

Given the events at the moment:

“We aren’t recruiting him for experience or leadership, we are recruiting him because the lad can prepare himself and we think he’s got 2-3 year left of good footy left in him”

I put forward my displeasure.

Parker - Hopeful.

Konstanty - if Sydney want rid of him.

Don’t believe it.

Any sane person would have attacked him with a fork, and then tackled to the ground by the waiters and said ex-president for allowing Luke McDonald and Jy captaincy.

Nice try though.

Did he ask you for your opinion on any potential draftees?

Funny you should say that because I had coffee with Clarko and our current President, takeaway coffee off course but that's a whole other conversation. I was going to bring up the lack of a coffee cart but I got caught up with Clarko telling me why the club has brought in Darling and it's because of his "experience & leadership"

Don't want to turn this into a p*ssing comp, but I had a couple of beers and a good chat about footy with Richard Osborne and Brad Plain at the Metro once. Can't remember what we discussed because it was over 35 years ago and I was p*ssed. Like, really snot-faced. Seemed like nice blokes, though.

I don’t want to piss further in a pissing competition here, but I once asked the late Paul Couch at Lambies wat he had “to say about Colby seeing his building a presence at North”.

He didn’t answer me

…Damo please…why not just give him a call rather than go to lunch?

I once held a door open for Nathan 'Blake' Grima who gave me a 'thanks mate'. True story.

He had Pork.

A certain preliminary final coach coaching this weekend was also with us.

The topic of conversation surrounded the valuation of consistency vs ceiling.

They would take a player with very little deviation between their best and their worst vs a Tarryn Thomas type.

In both their eyes, consistency is a trait of toughness, they could never trust a mercurial player in finals unless they had to. Theyd take a modiocre consistent player over a mercurial player, as they know they will perform when needed with the chips against them. In their experience almost all of these mechriwl types wit under the pressure, in the moment.

Clarko made clear we have a severe lack of talent on the list, his main issue is with the Northern academies annd the lack of due process with priority picks vs his time at Hawthorn and their impact on the comp. Put it this way, there was a few moments where I could plainly recognize why he might have issues with Hawthorn…

People thinking he’s here for the extended long term need to rethink (3-4+ years)

The Essendon offer was legitimate, the only reason it was rebuffed was it came the day after he accepted the North offer, otherwise it was a serious goer. It was made via Tim Watson and Roger Merrrett, both friends of his older brother, both West Vic boys. Clarko grew up in an Essendon zone and has a soft spot, been long time mates with Watson, Merrett, Merv Nagle etc.
