Delisted Jack Martin [Selected by Carlton in the PSD]

Not sure if this is been put forward in this thread but a Suns poster on our board highlighted a comment that may allow Blues fans to understand why the Suns felt the deal offered was sub par.

the statement is, would Blues fans feel that a 2nd and 3rd round pick in a compromised draft was enough for an out of contract Jacob Weitering?

Martin has better stats in almost every category and is still young, both were No 1 picks. They play different positions but it would be fair to say neither has lived up to expectations. If your answer is no then perhaps you can start to understand why the Suns have played hard ball.

FWIW I think he will end up at Carlton and not too many Suns fans are unhappy to see the back of him. Enjoy

You mean if Weitering over the next 3 years were to stagnate and return to his early 2018 form and not get close to showing his potential and want out for over 12 months and also be un-contracted?

Pls take a look at how Weitering actually played this year as a 21 yr old key Defender taking the oppositions #1 each week.

I reckon if an uncontracted Weitering hadn’t come close to fulfilling his potential by 25yo and had been dropped to the ressies during the current season, BF would call that overs mate, esp if offered by a club whose second rounder had been locked in the bottom 5 for the previous several years.

I wouldn’t be happy about it given the failed high hopes, but I wouldn’t call it a lowball offer by any means. You can’t plug a 25yo on potential. Btw - stats? Totally useless unless you’re offering ratios of how Weiters stacks up to other KPD’s and compare how Martin stacks up to other mid/HF’s.

try over a million a season ! puts him ahead of many of the blues stars
$1M first season, reported as close to a $m second season, remaining 3 season reduced so that the average for the 5 seasons is around $600K.
Your statement like so many on here is just made up.

Some supporters are really getting salty

It's actually becoming amusing how stupid some oppo supporters are.

HURRRRRR They're paying Martin $1 million dollars per year!!!!!!!

HURRRRRR Martin is worth the same value as Jacob Weitering!!!!!!!!

HURRRRRR Carlton couldn't make Essendon trade Daniher to Sydney!!!!!

Friday chuckles all around. :thumbsu:

Not sure what the big deal with the money is TBH

Did anybody actually expect him to be on less than whats been reported ?
Doggies offer - $700k x 4/5
Blues offer $600k x 4/5
Suns offer would have been around the 600k-$700k range also

Its what was always being expected and the only twist is the 2 mil in the first 2 years and wouldnt be a problem for any of the teams

Which in a way puts the acid test on Gold Coast as they have threatened to pick him and if he had decided to stay they would have paid him the same amount so will the money make any difference to their threat ?

Best part is Melbourne fans now desperately 'White Knighting' The Suns and urging them to re-draft Martin. No way in hell would they have the same attitude if Martin agreed to play for The Dees, instead of coldly rejecting them by not even agreeing to meet with any of their representatives.

Bowes also doesn't see any drama in having a player at the club who has so publicly proclaimed his desire not to be there.

The 21-year-old is confident Martin would play at his best if he is picked by the Suns.

"Yeah if that was the case, absolutely I'd back Jack in 100 per cent," he said.

Ha ha, your going to look mighty stupid in a couple of weeks.

I am so happy Gold Coast got a Priority Pick and get to pick up Noah Anderson, that overrides any angst the Suns have for losing Martin for nothing 👍👍👍

I like the way it keeps getting portrayed as 'Martins demands'
As if the amounts are being driven by Jack. "I want 1 million in the first two years" Yeah right.

Carlton and Jacks management are simply making things as foolproof as possible, for him to get where he wants to go.
Reckon Jack would happily take less money just in order to escape from Gold Coast and get to where his heart wants to take him.

That last sentence shouldn't be a slight on Gold Coast per se, but for the lack of environment fostered by big-balls Cochrane.

Believe me, I am one of the happiest supporters in the AFL that Jack is going to your club and not mine. Good luck to you, you deserve everything you get from him over the contract period if Gold Coast pass at the PSD.:thumbsu::thumbsu: Well done again.please let him get there Gold Coast. haha

Million a season?

Cochrane playing this perfectly. Literally shaking

Maybe if we were a further in and our younger players were a little older, but signing Martin on an inflated contract does nothing to our TPP and his contract tapering off actually allows us more wriggle-room to sign the players we need to, including free agents.

We’re set either way.
