I knows it not going to happen but acceptance wise from north would they accept?
2023F1, 2023F2, ROB, Keays -Gollant if they wanted him on top
Repeat after me...

JHF is not coming to the Crows.

It's a pointless hypothetical.

Players pick where they want to go... fortunately Rankine picked us.

I have no problems when a team has leverage to use it, but with JHF they have none.

Exactly

When they're contracted the other club hold all the cards. As we found out with Gibbs you either pony up or miss out.

Unfortunately they're so used to being mollycoddled that they struggle when people push back. That's why the draft and trading thread has been entertaining with the WCE and North supporters putting the Port supporters in their place.

Port wont get Rioli and JHF. They have to pick one or the other. If they were smart, they'd go for Rioli now and JHF next year when out of contract.

North should just back themselves in with their new coach and system to keep him. However, North dug themselves a massive hole. They didn't even speak to the kid, never groomed him for being at North which they should have been doing for Months (speaking once or twice in the week before the draft doesn't count.) They just arrogantly selected JHF at pick one to the least supported club Australia wide who also happen to be the club that offers the least to the competition and is performing the worst. You could see in his face when drafted he didn't want to go, Blight didn't want to be there to give him the jumper. It was the worst PR management exhibition you could see. Terrible on every level. But they turned down a sell the farm offer for him by the Crows, so now they have to back themselves in. If they trade him now, they basically tell the world they have no idea.

I don't think Port can afford to leave him at North for 12 months for two reasons

1) The Clarkson effect, especially if he ends up coaching North next year

2) I would expect the Crows to go hard at JHF if he's at North next year. We'll likely have better assets to trade and will have an earlier spot in the PSD.

The best time for Port to get him is now.

I reckon the best time for north to cut him loose is next year.
Better to have two teams bidding I reckon.

3) After convincing JHF to break a contract and then not getting the deal done, you’re going to have one mighty pissed off player, agent and manager. All Port goodwill will be shot.
4) Port supporters will lose their shit and place more pressure on the club.

Port have to get this deal done.

Number 4 the most important. Here is an expected superstar at the start of his career and they have him in their hand. No way you don’t pay up - North can push them for plenty

they know that too
our focus should be on hollands and striking one deal with GC now for both players

They will likely get both. Majority of trades go through and there are always some clubs that give up extra value to achieve a specific objective. Port will find a way to get enough in their unless North really don’t want to trade - and I suspect they will be happy to see the back of him

We’re clearly long shots in this race but if we’re to be any chance we need to convince the Kangaroos of two things:
1. We can make a compelling offer to them and one that’s clearly superior to anything Port could offer. (How to do that is a separate matter)
2. That JHF - although clearly preference for Port - would flip to us if we matched or beat Port’s financial offer AND JHF lost belief that Port could get the deal done.

If North could be convinced of those two points then it’s no longer in their best interests to settle for whatever Port offer or to make the hollow threat of holding him to his contract.

So how does Houston’s name get mentioned? Post on WC board said Port spoke to him last night and he said no. They wouldn’t be trying to play sneaky buggers, throwing up a players name on a 5 year deal they wouldn’t mind moving on and pretending it was West Coasts idea?

They probably feel like they could “charge” more for a long contracted player.

D
Offer something better so we dont have to deal with these port flogs and their fans anymore.
Fancy secretly poaching a contracted #1 pick all year then only being prepared to give up a packet of chips. Kochie and co need a reality check, would rather he end up at the Crows.

Hold out to next year and a very attractive bidding war will happen

Just hold out one more year and we'll bring the big guns with us next year.

Or Port Power lie through their teeth and make out the trade didn’t happen because NMFC refused to do a trade.

They are not the most honest club and will always do shady shit.
