Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

13 out of the first 18 picks are really good to great players. I understand that Crow's wouldn't think it was crash hot seeing though 3 of the remaining 5 are on your list 2x Adelaide picks + 2xGWS picks - both clubs known to set 1st rounders on fire.
The point is its an unknown vs a known. Iirc you guys have burnt 1sts on players like butcher, pittard, moore before

pony up sinn or butters or see you in 12 months where we will have crows bidding also
If crows trade pick 5 for Rankin, chances of North Melbourne getting multiple 1st round picks are slim.

All AFL sides have to use a bare minimum of 2 First rounders over 4 years

Well first of all I appreciate your optimism, finishing top four is as likely as Ken Hinkley learning to game day coach. So I look at it as two top ten picks, still in the sweet spot for the draft, and points wise still overs. I don’t think hurt should be a consideration really, fair and equitable for all parties concerned is all that’s needed.
Port have been top 2 two of the last three seasons and had a better year than the ladder position shows. Look it's neither here nor there none of us are nostamus but it's perfectly believable that you do have a good year. For north it's a gamble and it's not unreasonable to want a sure thing. Bird in the hand etc.

Hurt absolutely comes into it it's a measure of value. Losing JHF hurts because he's a very good young player. You have to give up something valuable to get something valuable, and losing something valuable hurts.

Ironically they’re all from the same draft.

The current management and recruiters have been very good when it comes to the 1st round. Since Parker has been here he hasn’t had a bust yet
‘16: SPP and Marshall
‘18: Rozee, Butters and Duursma
‘19: Bergman and Georgaides
‘20: Jones
‘21: Sinn

That's not bad tbh.
I reckon two first rounders is enough if port manage to push 8 up higher in the draft order. 5-6 would be enough.

Gws wont trade 19 now imo. They can get better value trading it on draft night itself.

Yeah a good post, but we need to remember that this is not just a standard approach. This is a player that doesn't want to play at that club. It hurts, sure, but it's not a financial matter, its a rejection of North, and Port will look to take advantage of that because his value is diminished.
It sucks, but it is what it is.

JHF's year as a whole wasn't great but I feel like his year is made worse than what it actually was.

His contested & clearance work, particularly in the first 10-12 weeks was an elite standard from an 18 year old kid.

Wouldn't matter what type of year he had, the SA clubs' interest in him wouldn't have changed at all. They've probably been sniffing around all year.

LOL at any SA fans talking the value down.

Unless GWS can convince JHF to join them... ;)

Oh for sure. Nonetheless you gotta give something up and it's gotta be commensurate with what you're getting which is an incredibly promising player. Teams and fan bases go through hell to get the number 1 pick. They need bankable value and it's gonna hurt to lose it. If it doesn't it's not a fair trade.

Your team and my team and Adelaide and North are probably the 4 teams in the comp that really don't know what a #1 pick is!

Best thing to do is for Port to get involved with GWS numerous picks. 8 + future third for 12 and 19.

12, 19 and future first (likely to be between 8 - 16) for JHF. Three top twenty picks, with a possible top ten.
It's a terrible a terrible idea for a variety of reasons.

The first of which being thay you can't trade out a future 3rd and a future 1st.

The 2nd being why would North want lower picks?

Yeah think that works for port and north, only question is if GWS are interested
Going to be brutally honest here. I think a couple of 1st rounders for JHF would be fair.

Offering pick 8 and a future 1st and even a player would be too much.

I am curious where port will finish next season.

Because if Port Adelaide don't make finals next season, I reckon pick 8 and 26 and a future 2nd could be enough.

Hell I think pick 8, 26 and a future 2nd should be enough.

Again.... If crows trade pick 5 for Rankin and crows still finish bottom 4 or bottom 6 next season, I doubt they would trade 2 1st rounders for an out-of-contact JHF.

Lol North reaching out to butters....
He has more trade value right now than jhf!
Worrying times when we take a twitter account posting as "John Doe" as news.

I think all that is a pretty fair assessment

Or the cats. They got a couple of 1st rounders too.

I rather JHF stay at north for another season.

Come on, Peter Bell demanded a couple of 1st rounders from the saints for Brad Hill which included their pick 6 FFS
Cats will be using theirs for Bruhn & Henry... & surely couldn't fit him in their cap... surely.
