I saw JDG having dinner with his mates at Vanilla in Oakleigh tonight. I had the fettuccini ragu with the Gippsland beef. Very nice!

I always thought JDG was a mid and being played out of position.
Absolutely amazed how well he played Up forward!
what was he eating

He dines there quite regularly. I never go to Vanilla, but a mate of mine says he sees him there quite regularly. He is mates with the owners son who I use to train when I was working in the gym above Vanilla several years back.

He’s a weapon, can play midfield or forward as we know. Love his versatility...

SO, apparently if gaff stays at west coast according to some north folk... north are going to somehow make another play, bigger deal for De Goey. Even though he politely declined their advances earlier in the year and choose to stay. These north supporters are so desperate they’ll start any rumours.
DeGoey loves the club and you can see he enjoys playing under the bright lights. Very much doubt he would trade that in to play home games in Tasmania

Was De Goey 191cm when we drafted him? Or did he shoot up an inch or two?

188-189 from memory. For what we need his size is perfect he just needs to build the hardness into his physique, IMO. Another pre-season will get him there and barring injury I’ll back him in to kick 50+ next year which is an 80 goal year with the number he gives off as well!

Yeah he was listed at 187cm in most of the draft profiles and write ups.

He's a bit like Geelong's Josh Caddy in his ability to play across half-forward and push into the midfield, but then wheel around and kick goals. At 187cm, De Goey is a touch taller than the young Cat, which helps his overhead marking (he averaged six marks a game in the TAC Cup), another strong part of his game.

He played mostly forward because that is clearly where he is currently most valuable, nothing to do with injury.
Actually Buckley confirmed toward the end of the year that JDG was getting significantly less midfield minutes because they were managing his leg hot spot.

While I like your idea, I would hate to lose him in our forward line.

I think he plays predominantly forward and goes into mid when needed.
This. The knock on our list is too many mids. Yet many want to play our gun full forward in the midfield.
Burst pace is important so Treloar /JDG rotate for me with Treloar prob 70 to 80 mid time, JDG 20 to 30 mid.

Not sure if it was a coaching move but thought in GF that Darling played further up the ground in the 3rd qtr to bring him into the play after quiet first half. This is how I’d use JDG – predominantly forward and providing relief minutes for Treloar as plan A. Up JDG midfield time if ball not getting down to him often enough.

If guys like Adams, Sier and Wills can be the big bodied mids providing most of the inside grunt for most of the match, guys like JDG can come in later in quarters and provide some relief minutes against 2nd string or tiring first stringers and maximise his burst speed, strength and ability to read the ball.

Big game player. The one thing I would like him to improve on in the off season is his defensive work inside 50. If he’s going to be a stay at home forward next year he has to lock the ball in the 50 as well. He had 0 tackles on Saturday. Can’t wait to see what he brings next year.
I'm not too concerned about his defensive efforts ATM. His stats show he didn't lay any tackles in his last 3 games after having had only two games for rest of the year with zero tackles. Combined with the talk in this thread about his leg injury I suspect it was a case of maximising his limited output and saving his efforts for on the lead and winning the ball. I give plenty of latitude to a guy who kicks 10 goals in those same last 3 games, especially when the pattern is also evident with his below average tackle numbers in 6 of his 7 games after the injury layoff (all but QF).

Love these. What I love the most is analysing the one he engages Rance. Despite how great Cox was this contest was the single most excitement of the game. Now it looks even better on slow mo. Rance is elite at reading the ball but here Jordy defeats him in every aspect for mine.

He has no real break on Rance so sizes it up in a moment and stops his lead with the direct intention of engaging and out bodying Rance. At the match I didnt realise it was such a deliberate ploy. A split sec summing up of the play, deciding he has an option to engage and just out body the bigger man, thats breath taking and not a one off. He has done this to a number of the best KPFs in the game. Its just a wow moment
Gave you a like even though you should edit KPF to KPD

l.
It may not be as early as next year, but I think it'll be Stephenson and JDG who change out of the goal square.

Look, just for jokes I'd like to see GWS with 2 x Heath Shaw

Can you imagine the arguments they'd have?
Was bad enough having Maxy and Heath yelling at each other

"You knew he could do it, because he's a great great special player."
Went all gooey didn’t he?
He did, yes yes yes!

(In that voice with growl he liked to use, doesn’t he)
