Jumper v Carlton

Join the facebook group Coxy posted above, and for all of those on twitter send the club (@WestCoastEagles) a message which includes #weartheroyal in it somewhere. We've got to at least try, if not for this week but for the seasons to come, let them know how much support there is for the traditional royal wings and yellow wings.

This is a joke. If we must wear our home jumper then why can't Carlton wear the white shorts instead of us? Even better, make them wear their current non-navy jumper. Best outcome would be us wearing our royal wings jumper and then they could wear their navy jumper and all would be good.

AFL and/or us for not standing up for ourselves

Because our jumper is lighter. Just as Geelong being the home team have to wear white shorts occasionally.

This isn't really the issue, the issue is we have two other great - and better jumpers that we have worn this year, lets wear one of those.

I'm still not following the logic here.

West Coast finished higher on the ladder and are playing at home.

West Coast elect to wear their home kit (navy top, navy shorts).

Decision by West Coast to wear navy creates immediate clash with Carlton's preferred away kit (navy top, white shorts).

Triggers the need for Carlton as the lower placed away team to come up with a suitable alternative.

Carlton have elected that the baby blue guernsey is their clash jumper of choice.

Logic therefore dictates Carlton wear baby blue kit.

Now the expected rebuttal to all this will be something along the lines of a) "the AFL not the clubs dictate the uniforms, or b) the team with more white ends up wearing white shorts, etc etc. However these rebuttals are flawed in a) because the AFL (with some semblance if common sense) would have dictated WCE just wear royal blue, and b) collingwood's home jumper actually has more white than St Kilda's home jumper, yet who wore the "compromised" jumper on grand final days last year?!

Am I missing something here? Or is the logic just too blindingly obvious?

FWIW I think the truth of the matter is that Carlton have decided they do not want to wear the baby blue in a final (because we are Carlton and all that arrogant wank) and have had a powerbroker lean on the AFL to make this absurd and nonsensical 'decision'. Pure speculation on my part but if true, an absolute disgrace.

WC will cop it sweet because they're spineless. They should stand up for themselves and stop being cowards. Fight fire with fire. Don't meekly hobble back into your kennel with your tail between your legs and head bowed.

What about Collingwood telling the AFL that due to them finishing higher on the ladder, they get the choice. Fat chance our weak lap dog for an administration would do likewise. Shameful WC; your inaction shames the club as a whole and makes a mockery of it, which then brings scorn. How can you expect respect when your inaction deserves the opposite. Get ****ed you useless bunch of pussies! Just GTFO and let real men with intestinal fortitude and bollocks run the show, the club will be better for it.

For how much longer are the Eagles going to pander to the AFL? When there's injustice and double standards, stand up and fight you weak-willed plebs. Don't compromise, even on small issues, for even just one occurrence leaves you in a predicament the next time you're asked to roll over and take one for them.

I love watching the team play, and I support them in their efforts, but I have nothing but contempt for the administration due to them allowing themselves to be walked on ever since the Cousins saga.
WC have more power than they know. Money talks. WC need to start wielding their power to stop the AFL figuratively castrating them and bending them over.

Hear hear. I know many ridicule us for our 'clash jumper' but reality is that we stood up to the AFL and maintained our integrity. BTW I'd forgotten how awesome the yellow peril was. Bring it back now!!

I agree with you all. West Coast should choose what it wants to wear, and Carlton should have to wear its clash strip (I love the white one and hate the powder blue but that's life).

Having said that, I'd prefer it if clubs communicated before games to figure out something mutually beneficial. For example, it sounds like most of you prefer the royal blue, so it would have been good if WC said to Carlton, "we'll wear the wings, you go the navy with white shorts".

I'm a dreamer, but I think aggression and gamesmanship should only take place on the field. I don't go in for this boxing-promoter bullshit with fake injury lists and who wears what. Save it for the match.

Spot on DSL, this is what should happen - but according to the club, what they wear is dictated to them by the AFL. Stupid, avoidable situation.

I wish the club would just ditch the tripanel for good. I can handle a Navy-wings design, but sick of this tripanel jumper that just create problems like this (with the AFL's help!)

At least if we had Navy-wings, surely then the AFL couldnt justify both clubs wearing Navy tops, as neither would have white paneling.

Plus it's Wings! Eagles wear wings!

Spot on. The tri panel POS looks like a preseason jumper more than anything. Hate it with a passion, its like man united wearing blue at home, just not right.
AFL has become so much about the $ and less about the :footy:.

I agree with this.

If Eagles refuse to wear their Royal Blue, then we should be forced to wear the Baby Blue...

But it does seem like everyone can be satisfied if communication occurs

Especially in a final...

Anyone else gobsmacked that we've ended up in this position?!

We got fined a few years back for wearing our royal blue kit against the royal blue bulldogs.

And yet somehow the AFL has seen fit to allow navy and navy in the same game - and a bloody important one at that!

That was our mistake, packed the wrong jumpers on the plane. I say we wear royal and just cop the fine.

But if he went to Vlad and said, the clash is going to terrible so we want to wear the royal, he'd say good idea go ahead. There won't even be a fine

I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to not having royal jumpers with the home jumper sponsor logo location (ie SGIO on front, HJs on back)

We've worn that this year
