Too true.
Took many morning afters seeing a 4/10 wake up next to me that I could've sworn was a solid 9 the night before to learn this lesson ;)
And only three wives to learn that marrying a 9 alone isn't the entire picture ...

It's a good metaphor.

We learn from our mistakes and thank goodness no one was hurt.

Who's is he?

Played 21 games for us

Isn't the legal limit is 0.00 for probationary drivers? Hodge was slightly over, a lot different to driving smashed if the limit is 0. I expect a suspension and a fine from the club plus a fine from the AFL will be the likely punishment.

Correct

It's not like he thought he might be under the limit, or even just a tiny bit over the limit. You can't have a single drink on your P's and he would have known that. Ran the gauntlet and is rightly shamed.

And young!

While I agree in part and hope Kayne makes it back from this (He is gonna cop alot of judgement in the next few weeks) - He is 20.
Still a full grown man - Well past knowing the difference between right and wrong.
I'm grateful he hasn't ended up another statistic and think he needs to hear that from his support network. This'll set his career back - hopefully he does make it back - but if he'd hit another car or a telegraph pole, the consequences are on a whole different level.

He is young in the respect that the outrage he's gonna cop is magnified due to his job / status. Not many 20 year olds will go through that scrutiny.

Hope he gets the support he needs to bounce back. Guys like Tom Liberatore have shown how adversity and mistakes can make you a better person.

Libba would be a good example for him, to be honest. Turned into the kind of player that makes a suitable role model even before you factor in the public 'mess' they've both been through.

**** that, I was just waiting for age to be brought into it. There is no grey area if you're under 22 – it is black and white! You cannot have a drink and then drive with any bit of alcohol in your system on your P's.

If he's not old enough to know right or wrong then what's he doing playing in a professional sporting league? I don't buy into the notion that footy players are role models – they can choose to be if they want to, but they shouldn't have it thrust upon them. So that's not an argument. But even as a youngster you know these things. Age is not a defence mechanism when DUI.

Idiot. Probably wont be playing AFL for much longer after making that type of decision.
I'd say club will stick by him. He was still at school last year.

With uber there's really no excuse. $6-8 one way to my local, about the price of a schooner.

Trouble is people drive there and think they'll leave the car there and get a taxi back or crash if it's a mates house but once they're smashed they think **** it I'll be right. Gotta leave the car at home.

Too simplistic a response...

AFL players are mostly absolute warriors who risk their bodies like us mortals never would. Think of the Jordan Lewis 'back with the flight' or Nick Riewoldt mark as acts of courage ...

We're all wired differently and the propensity for risk taking is a characteristic we demand in the stands.

People with this personality type take longer to be better at making risky judgements. Simple.

If you looked into the young men's choir for example I'd imagine they'd be more conservative and learn this stuff younger.

No excuses about it but to have no empathy for stupid decisions by youth is BS.

This bloke. Helped win us a cut throat final against a higher ranked team 2 years ago. Quite a fall from grace now

Out of contract end of this year. Not a smart move.

Wouldn't call it a 'fall from grace' considering it needed to be explained who he was.
