Ken Hinkley's presser after Bulldogs game

I hate to say it, but this team has a history of laziness. It's time to break up this group a bit.

Our brief history shows that we have had significant spikes in performance and output when we have let go of "first 22" deadwood from our list:
in 2003, with the delistings of Paxman, Cockatoo-Collins and departures of Stevens and Guerra.
in 2012, with the mass delistings/departures of Pearce, Chaplin, Rodan, Salopek, Surjan, Jacobs.

I think now is another opportunity for a mini-list makeover.

I don't seek out press conferences and really only hear them when they come on the radio as i'm driving or a TV that i'm watching. I really don't care what any coach has to say publicly, and that goes for Hinkley as well.

I still haven't watched this press conference, but if the reports of him seeming genuinely disappointed are accurate, he's either more fashionably late than Finch to the party at the start of American Pie, or he's been disappointed all year and it's only now he can't hide it from the media anymore. We've played what, two solid 4 quarter performances all year?

We've got a dead even year where the flag race is wide open, and we've absolutely and totally screwed it up. I assume Hinkley and Burgess and the other coaches know that, but I don't want to hear them admit it. Who cares? Just fix it and make sure we're ready to go next year. The window should be open. We have the list balance to be competing. We've been found wanting in just about every way you can rate a football team in 2015, and a huge part of that is our gameplan and strategy.

Ken Hinkley strikes me as a coach that will back you in and trust you with everything, but if you burn that there is no coming back. First time all year I've seen him so despondent with the players. He gives them alot of power and trust and this year they have burnt that. Be a interesting off season as I can see a name or one or two of his favorites going.

I'm not trying to single you out, but what makes you think he will act differently from game selection? He can't make a hard call on selection, how will he cope with the list?

Geez some of our blokes are touching 30yoa and have years of experience , a father figure you say eh ? . Id say a wise man wouldn't have let the decline progress so far to begin with.

Not many of our players are near 30 actually

I am hoping he has given the players significant chances. Once those chances have been used, then tough calls will happen. I share your apprehension. Perhaps I am living in hope like the players!

We will have to make some changes, depending on what we are going to do with our picks. I believe there is a minimum number of changes we have to make? Correct me if im wrong.

Hawks made 9 changes through retirements and delistings last year. The bulldogs made a whopping 12! West coast only made 6 and port made 7. All massively tough decisions such as renouf, stevenson, hitchcock etc.

We need to make some aggressive choices in terms of trades and delistings this year.

For what it's worth. Geelong made very little changes in 2006.

We only need to make enough changes to have 3 national draft selections. Rookie promotions are included as part of that so you could have 2 national draft selections and 1 rookie promotion.

Im content with the way Ken has handled the press conferences this year. The damage has already been done so ranting and raving and carrying on after the weekends effort wouldnt really prove much. You almost never see a coach come out and blast the playing group publically so he was never going to do that throughout the year.

They would know, both the coaches and the players that they have ****ed up this year. All of them.

thats not a smart way to manage people with that in the back of their mind, you dont want players too scared to take risks for the fear of being sacked. we arent coaching in the 60s now. im not suggesting we need to cuddle these blokes but trying to get the best out of them is the key, which im sure a variety of approaches are being used to find the solution.

The doctor is spot on.

They have returned to the lazy play back in the primus era, only concerned for their own opponent and their own game. In 2013 they played for each other they helped out they ran forward and back, now its all to hard.

I dont buy into the story that the players are at fault here. KHinkley needs to man up and accept that he is responsible for this mess!
He is the head coach and has to set the tone and pattern which turns this club around and so far he has not done that.

And if he doesn't ? , we will all be dispondant before the season even starts I suppose , we as a club can't afford to give underperformers a third or forth or fifth chance.

The easy target would be DBJ. I think all rookies will go except krak who will be elevated. But the delistings have to come from the senior list so dbj, mitchell and redden I feel. P. Stew contracted so will stay on. I want to see some tougher decisions though, the ones named above are pretty simple with the exception of possibly redden.

I think we may need to let a tall go though.

There are 6 that could go without me batting an eyelid, and another who I would have a massive cry about but he's probably gone.

DBJ would be hard done by but he's playing in a position where we are incredibly deep. Could potentially be delisted and rookied.

ill call BS on the same statement, it does nothing but damage morale, it might motivate the group of players that know they wont get a contract else where but others players will just look at others clubs, those 2 clubs you mention dont drop players straight away Tippert hasnt been dropped and is yet to set the world on fire.

Delistings should be easy. I just hope Ken can pull the trigger on them as he has persisted and persisted with them despite poor performances.

For what its worth Id delist:
Moore - the worst top 10 pick in our history.. not sure what they saw in him, his brother was a dud so not sure what they expected.
Colhoon - has no attributes, no pace, no great skills, no great evasiveness, just a plodder with a decent engine..
P Stewart - appears a good clubman, but is not up to the level
Redden - was going to be something, now is renouf like
Harvey - not up to it

Id trade (if possible)
Young
Shaw - be happy to get anything, maybe freo would swap lachie neale
Butcher - back to Maffra and still wouldn't be the best forward in maffra
Lobbe - wonder if we could swap him for lycett?

Id keep
Mitchell - not sure why, but he does find the ball and he does run..acknowledge he cant kick but half the problem is solved
Gray - simply as a back up
O'Shea - don't mind him, but the gap between is good and bad is huge and needs to be reduced, don't think selection has helped him this year

Grab a few mid aged players from SANFL and then use the rest on draftees.
