would you know who else collingwood is keen on at pick 6?

Aish and Bontempelli are the rumoured ones. You never quite know for sure though.

Cheers for your thoughts on Ventura, I'm a big fan of young Caleb Daniel from the Panthers. From what you've seen do you think he could have a future at AFL level and what year is he eligible to be drafted?

I've seen him run around a couple of times. He can play. Very small at only 166cm but can win his own footy and can move. Don't know when he's eligable but it will either be 2014/2015. I'm sure one of the SA football experts will know for certain.

I'd like to see whether he can continue to elevate his game over future seasons and find a way to become even more of a force to give a club a reason to draft him.

Not sure if these mean anything but these are Ben Lennons Tweets,

Could this mean Brissy will take him as he may not get homesick with his sister up there?

Lennon is one Brisbane are expected to consider at 7. He and Freeman I have as front-runners for that selection.

does anyone think Hartung could fall to about 25-30?

Not trying to get greedy with pick 30 are you aadmm? I expect he goes somewhere closer to pick 20.

So KM, do you think the dogs would definitely pass on scharenberg?

If billings and aish are both still on the board, who do you think we'd take?

I expect the dogs to pass on Scharenberg, though you never quite know until draft day. My feel is he slides further than anticipated.

Billings likely goes at 3 to the Saints. Aish is probably there and the eventual pick.

In the strange scenario Billings and Aish are both there for the dogs I'd say Billings as the local talent is the more likely.

Like their Dane Swan comparison on that page haha. Not quite, don't think Swan has the burst of pace Hartung has.

Hartung probably more like a Kade Simpson or Clinton Young. Combination of both speed and endurance.

Are you saying Dane Swan's time of 2.88 seconds for 0-20m isn't quick?

His strength is clearly endurance. I'll leave at it that since this is Knighta's thread.

KM,

Not being an avid underage follower like yourself & only seeing the limited highlights packages for the draftees I personally think that Salem looks the better footballer over Freeman. I was completely underwhelmed by the Freeman highlight reel!

Who else do you see us looking at with #9?

By all reports Billy Stretch is good mates with Scharenberg. I'm not suggesting that we would recruit him on that alone but perhaps we've seen a little more of him from scouting Billy at Glenelg games, admittedly Billy would have been playing the earlier games

Doubt Scharenberg will slide to pick 9.
I too prefer Salem to Freeman, but I think many people see Freeman as having more upside.

On those talking about Dane Swan he's more a middle distance guy who can gut run for 400m and give those repeat efforts better than his opponent. That's what relatively sets him apart. His pace is above average but not elite.
Then his endurance is I'd describe unconventional. He needs his breathers and can't just continue going forever but he has the ability to recover as quick as any to re-fuel and go again and again and again.

Hey KM. I have 2 questions
1. Could someone like Bontempelli ,Scharenberg or Lennon slide like Grundy last year?
2. Any news on Dayle Garlett on what clubs are interested in picking him up?

Don't be surprised if Scharenberg slides, particularly after the early season projections of some.

Bontempelli will go top 10. Lennon will go somewhere around pick 10.

From what I understand there are only 3-5 clubs considering Garlett. How high he goes or if he goes is still an unknown. Perhaps 3rd round he might come into calculations but you can forget about him being an early draft/ first round selection.

Salem is the most recent guy to be linked to Melbourne. Freeman is the other.

Scharenberg is very possible. Melbourne will have seen plenty of him I'm sure.

I just expect Melbourne are looking for more a midfielder which is why I expect Melbourne pass on him if there.

Hartung is your modern day Shane Crawford.

Whilst endurance isn't the killer attribute that it used to be in the late 90's with the likes of Crawford and Robert Harvey, his pace still makes him a top prospect.

His biggest question mark on him is his ability to win contested ball. Sides are more and more reluctant to take absolute outside types, because the deeper you go in the season, the more easy they are to get shut down with the amount of stoppages and contested footy in finals.

With him not being a pure or proven mid it certainly would be a factor. Personally I would prefer us to use #9 on the proven mid & with that in mind I would favour a Sheed, Crouch, Dunstan etc

Hey KM, I know it's a bit early but I was wondering if you've heard or seen much of future father/son pick for the Swans Josh Dunkley? He was picked for the U/16 Vic Country side this year, also the AIS squad and will be available for the 2015 draft.

#45 Port Adelaide (via Brisbane) – Ben Brown (VIC – KPF/Ruck)
Height: 198cm, Weight: kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Werribee
Style: Tyrone Vickery
Player comparison:
Range: 20-rookie
Profile: Brown in my view has been one of the big improvers this year and he’s really starting to deliver on his talent with the strong footy he has played this season. Brown is a tall key forward who is a natural who absolutely clunks those contested marks but also has some ability below the knees for his size. As a set shot goalkicker Brown is an absolute deadeye and has one of the best set shot routines I’ve seen with the way he lines the ball up with the goals before going back and nailing it. He’s also shown that he’s a much improved ruckman now that he’s put some more size onto his frame and isn’t getting pushed around as much anymore. He’s not a dominant tap ruckman but more someone who follows up well from the ruck contest and could present as a no.2 ruck option who plays the majority of his minutes up forward.
KM, he sounds like the second coming. Could you shed some light on his deficiencies or why you have him at 45? He seems like the type of player a lot of teams need with the sub rule in place.

Hey km Sam lansberger suggested the dogs are interested in Jake needham. Do you know anything about him? Thanks

Not familiar with Needham's game.

I'd be taking Crouch myself as that midfielder myself in Melbourne's situation. All games between 30-45 disposals in the TAC this year (never less than 5 tackles in any of these games). 25 disposals on VFL debut.
And that's before he's built his endurance.
He's just a natural inside ball winner. He'll be first to the ball and just finds it so easily.

The only way I see Crouch failing is if he doesn't put the work in on the track and doesn't show the required discipline, but with his brother playing this year he should have a fair idea of what's expected of him.

I'm not familiar with the 2015 draft prospects yet. I don't get the chances to get around to the u16 games but I hear Dunkley is projected to be a top 10 talent for 2015 so if he can get to the Swans that would be a good outcome.

Ben Brown has some traits. He's not a physical force and at the next level against more physically established key defenders will no doubt get pushed around to some extent.

He will also need to continue to build his endurance and ability to give second and third efforts with his tackling game not up to the level it needs to get to at this point.

Brown is someone who should have been drafted a number of years ago and has been on the radar every year, it was just unfortunate he did his knee back in his draft year or he would have been a near certainty.

Despite being a few years older I don't think Brown is round 1 ready but he has the tools to make it in a good program and make that no.2 ruck role his with his natural forwards game.

Hi Knightmare,
How much of a reach would Marsh be at 17 for Freo?

Marsh at 17 is a touch earlier than I'd like but he's got the talent and Fremantle have the luxury to take a chance so it's not a horrible reach, it's earlier than I'd be prepaired to take him with a few more sure things likely to still be available.

hear some good things re dunkley. apparently swans have two academy players in same afl ais squad. academy players will go through same process as f/son bidding by then. We could have our first 3 selections dictated by other clubs.

Knight...on the Lions #7 pick I really want us to pick a player capable of playing from round 1. We need the quality developing in our team and obviously have alot of holes for a youngster to walk into the team if capable. So my question is, if Freeman is this type or is another Polec? for I see Scharenberg and Sheed as lock in round 1 players... I feel more then never the lions need a pick that can make a real impact very early in his career

Don't forget, Beams should be good to go round 1 and West will play straight away. Mayes should play more and you've got Crisp in the NEAFL who you'd think would have to get more senior opportunities. Not counting Mayes if the other 3 all get starts early next season it'll feel like you've got 3 new recruits running around for you having an impact.

Hey Knightmare, I was looking through some of the footage of Billings and thought he looked a bit like Wingard (or maybe that's what I wanted to see...) and was wondering whether you think the comparison is apt. In terms of foot skills, marking ability, ability to go forward or middle and whether you think Billings can have an impact as a more permanent midfielder?
