Cockatoo's draft range feels up in the air and there are some varied opinions at the moment making it unclear. Some are claiming he could go as high as the 10-20 range, others see him more a second or third round selection and we might not know for certain until draft day.

If I was to hazard a guess where he goes, probably somewhere 20-30 given the recent hype and that would in my view feel around right for him.

I imagine Melbourne need to use that second round pick on Stretch so it is unlikely unless a further pick around that range is added that Cockatoo would be available to Melbourne unless Cockatoo slides into the third round which while possible is increasingly against the odds.

Hey Knightmare, I spoke to Calum Twomey yesterday and he pretty much agreed with you and thought that he will go around pick 20.

He mentioned though, that he had spoken to one particular recruiter who felt he could go as high as pick 10.

Thanks mate, I was having a bit of crack to be honest but cheers.

I was just using the ratings to illustrate you seriously underestimate our players values. If you're losing a top player sort it out with Brisbane but why would we give a great player now with potential to be better to get a 28 year-old decent player who wants to come to our city anyway.

Question for Knightmare,
Where do you slot the foreigners in the this draft? The two Americans and the two Irish lads.
I realise it's hard without tape but do you have any feel for where they're projected?

Yeah North Melbourne at least are eyeing him off with their first round pick as a strong possibility. All the talk is they loved what they saw of him early season when he trained with the club.

He is an upside player and with different clubs having different ideas on upside who knows what a club may be willing to use to get him. Nice height, has the pace and uses it in game. For some that may be enough.

Given they are all eligible as category b rookies, draft positions are not relevant with any of the internationals.

The pick of the bunch this year though is Conor McKenna (who recently signed with Essendon). In a game early season v AIS he kicked four goals and have seen some of his Gaelic tapes and the skill + pace combo suggests he has something. From everything I have read he has adjusted to the AFL skills and is the best Irish prospect since Pearce Hanley so he will be the one to watch.
If anyone would feature inside my power rankings or come close to slotting in there it would be McKenna of this years group.

Interesting that a few recruiters are now saying Moore is the most talented tall in the draft.
What do you make of this observation?

That's what I'll be suggesting in my next update.

McCartin and Wright I just have a few more questions marks relating to. Moore I have greater confidence in the development of.

Wright overhead isn't strong enough for me and McCartin's health and ability develop an AFL body concerns me.

'Sup Knightmare, are you still updating your Phantom Draft tonight mate?

Just finishing off one last bio tonight and will do another quick update of the draft order but if copy/pasting doesn't take too long that is the hope.

Knight a few different people are now saying Moore would go number 1. They are also saying he is the best tall and a future captain. A one in a generation player.

I wouldn't say one in a generation player.

Some might say that of Franklin or plausibly Cameron or Naitanui depending on what people think of them but Moore isn't in that category.

I'd be more inclined to say that Moore is the more likely sure thing to become a very, very good key forward of the talls. I also think he has a real chance to become a part of Collingwood's leadership group having watched his on field instruction out on the field and how he talks to team-mates. Captain? I'd call those talks also premature.

As Hawthorne overlooked Harry Dear as a father son selection do you see any other clubs drafting him or in the RD?
Bearing in mind he was invited to the national combine so there appears to be a bit of interest.

Dear is a chance for the rookie draft. You are right that given he was invited to the national combine clubs wanted to see him and some interest will exist. Doesn't mean he will get drafted as a result of that in either draft but it suggests he will be a consideration.

Gee. Those posts filled up quickly from earlier in the year. Have run out of space to add further profiles on p1 of this thread.

Next update I may need to make a new thread I'm thinking unless I can get another 4-5 posts included at the start of page one.

If I stick with this thread I'll update the f/s selections tomorrow and fix up the formatting with the random bolding/underlines that have come from copying my notes onto here.

Otherwise and I'm leaning this way on my new thread whenever I get that started I'll get it fixed up on there.

Any word on who Freo are sniffing around yet Knightmare?

It's unusual to hear for certain a club is onto one player. Particularly outside the top 10. Too many different scenarios can happen.

Hugh Goddard looks a logical fit and I imagine would be a consideration.

knightmare

I asked this question a while back but it got buried somewhere in the thread...wouldn't mind an update anway. Which players should I be keeping and eye out for a Ultimate team Draft Keepers league? Im interested in players who can make an impact in the 1st 1-2 seasons (preferably first), so obviously looking at Mids, HF's, and HB's. Brayshaw, Petracca, and heeney are obvious choices...but who outside of those? And especially possible late bargains

cheers

why don't you start 'Knightmare's Phantom draft player profiles', as a subsidiary to this thread?

For the last 4 years we have been heavily linked to the player we take with our first pick.
This year i havent heard anything?
Any reason?

When was the first instance of Richmond being linked with Brandon Ellis in 2011?
