Hey KM, let's say a player was playing KPD at TAC Level, and he played on Josh Battle, Brett Blair and Todd Marshall, and he kept those three players to a total of 14 possessions over three finals (4.33 average).

Let's just say he also racked up 44 possessions himself (14.67 average) and just won a TAC cup premiership.

Would anyone take notice of that?

It's probably worth mentioning Sakeson also missed the entire preseason having come back from an 8-month spell on the sideline due to a broken leg.

Any recruiter who does their homework already knows that I'm sure, as well as current height and weight. Details off the TAC Record can be misleading as year 11/12 kids are still growing throughout the year.

You have to change your order every year as you see more, players develop and others don't.

As a quick (revised) top 15 I'd go with:
1. Jacob Weitering
2. Jacob Hopper
3. Clayton Oliver
4. Callum Mills
5. Joshua Schache
6. Matthew Kennedy
7. Darcy Parish
8. Eric Hipwood
9. Harrison Himmelberg
10. Josh Dunkley
11. Brayden Fiorini
12. Ryan Clarke
13. Aaron Francis
14. Rhys Mathieson
15. Darcy Tucker

Are you for real wow.

Dunkley is the cornerstone of a Grand Final team..Oliver Hopper Schache Hipwood himmelberg are not in front of him.

KM, who are the best contested ball winners from this draft?

Do you see any potential Bontempellis out there? Any that can dominate the league and have a huge impact for their side

Willem Drew is in my view the best contested ball winner in this draft. He isn't as dynamic as Bontempelli is, but highly influential from more a physicality standpoint than bursting from stoppages and doing damge by foot.

William Brodie has the most Bontempelli to him having that acceleration and contested ball winning. Will Setterfield also at that 190cm+ range is seriously good already and has the upside, for mine he is underappreciated also

Of the taller mids who can really win it in the contest, they're the guys to be aware of.

Knightmare Harrison Burt caught my eye on the weekend, haven't heard him mentioned in dispatches much....draftable?

Clean enough in his ball use and found a bit of it. State combine invite, so he is a plausible draft selection without being expected to be selected.

Yeah I've seen a lot of Logue's games as well, I just don't see any way he doesn't become an above average AFL key defender, and has the athleticism and strength to potentially be one of the very best. Can play 1v1 on genuine talls as well as medium forwards, great intercept mark, can clunk a mark up forward, also a pretty decent relief ruckman. This is all at league level might I add. You say he didn't do a lot at the champs which is kind of true, but he was very rarely beaten.

I'd have no doubts or qualms about taking him top 10, especially if you were in the market for a ready to go KPD.

I'd prefer taller than 193cm for a key defender when possible. Hopefully he has some more growth in him. Key forwards today are increasingly coming in nearing and sometimes exceeding 200cm. Previously key defenders such as Glass/Rutten etc have had success at 191/192cm against those taller forwards due to their sheer strength in the contest.

But would need to see some WAFL League gametapes of Logue before getting so excited.

any team lists out for the U17 match on GF day?

Knight any chance of Kane Nissenbaum or Harrison Burt getting drafted?

Burt is unlikely but plausible late/rookie pick being invited to the state combine.

Kane Nissenbaum has not been exceptional this year and was not invited to either the state or national combine. Given that it's hard to see him being on the radar.

Hey Knightmare, my cousin is looking like a draft chance next year and I was wondering if you'd formed any opinion on his chances and what kind of player he will be yet? Aiden Domic is his name, plays for North Ballarat. Also playing on Team O'Loughlin in the U17 All Star game coming up.

Knightmare how come their is such a long wait between the end of the season and the draft surely the kids just want to know what their future holds and aside from the combines they have no other chance to impress really?

Hoping the Swans get a look in at Johnty Schranberg are we a chance?
Also If we were to snag a good pick for T Mitch who do you think we would target?

Two Questions if I may Knightmare.

1. Who will North look at with their first pick?. I'm hearing Shai Bolton is a big possibility to bolt up to them.

2. After his strong finals campaign in the TAC cup, where could young bushie Jake Page land?. His Kicking maybe average but still he managed averaged 22 disposals in the finals series.

A big thanks if you respond.

Knight,

What's your thoughts on these players going into the draft:

Luke Bunker
Cam Polson
Mitch Lewis
Lachlan Murphy

None are standouts and all marginal/late type picks if chosen.

Bunker has had a solid season through the Northern midfield. Given the depth of mids this year it is unclear whether he will get picked as one of many capable ball winners.

Polson showed some glimpses early season but only played those first three games. Did he get hurt? Might be one worth Sandringham bringing back next year as he doesn't appear in the draft mix.

Mitch Lewis is a promising, athletic key forward. Has has shown some glimpses and may get looked at late draft.

Murphy has shown some glimpses. Small but can win it and has some pace. In the mix late draft.

Domic is a possible pick for next year but not a high end pick at this stage that I'm expecting.

Has contributed solidly this year for North Ballarat and has found a fair bit of the ball which is a good sign but to be drafted I'd like to see him improve his decision making and clean up some of his kicking as he can take some unnecessary risks with ball in hand and try to do too much.

A year out from being draft eligible though, the work is ahead of him as with all of next years players to get drafted.

You've got the draft combines. Free agency. Trade period. That all happens before the draft. So that's why it works out that way.

I also like it being after school exams are done which also seems an intentional part of it. Kids can focus on their exams then start preparing for next year if they make it onto AFL lists. I don't like the idea of them finding out before they've finished their year 12 exams, or you'll have several of them turning their focus or becoming distracted by footy.

I'm not convinced Sydney need Scharenberg.

With Mitchell to be traded there are plenty of next options up who can step into the midfield. Heeney would like regular minutes through there. Mills also will be commanding time through there soon enough. Kennedy, Parker, Hannebery, Heeney and Mills in the medium term is a great midfield group, even with Mitchell to be traded and Kieran Jack and Jarrad McVeigh to finish up over the next few seasons. I also like George Hewett as a possible member of the midfield group over the next few years.

Scharenberg is expected to feature somewhere around the late 1st round mark, he could drop into the second round. So he may be a possible if Sydney surprise and go for another midfielder.

From Hawthorn I expect they trade their first round pick (either this year or next year) in order to get Mitchell. Ideally I'd try for first round pick +, but with Hawthorn going after O'Meara also, it is unclear how much more they would consider moving for Mitchell.

Shai Bolton is a possible and would make sense given the Harvey exit. Todd Marshall if there may receive consideration. Griffin Logue, Jack Scrimshaw, Daniel Venables, Jarrod Berry and Jy Simpkin may be among others you hear about in North's range.

Page is not considered in the mix for selection, not receiving a state or national combine invite. Murray have 10-15 others who would receive consideration before Page, which is more says something about how deep and talented their team is.

Also for those hanging out for next months power rankings.

I'm going to take a big risk with it. I'm looking to introduce some very different names into my top 30. Three of whom (if I retain my current order) were invited not to the national combine but the state combine instead.

So that should get some conversation happening, and give it something of a bit more of a personal touch and differentiate myself somewhat from some of the other draft boards out there.

Cheers Knightmare. Sounds like the kind of stuff that can be worked on. He's a really good kid so I hope he gets his chance.

I was thinking about Graham at 15, eventually settling for Tucker given the strength of his form this season.

Smalls (sub 180cm mids particularly) generally have limited upside. They start their careers quickly typically making them low risk and often good value picks, not needing to learn how to play at their height, being more used to their bodies and knowing how to play in their bodies. But then they don't have that same development coming later on to reach more extreme heights as you often see with the likes of a Bontempelli who as a junior still was growing into his body and with each season continues to work it out a little more so that he can use his dynamic power more effectively, while his physical and athletic development continues.

Beg to differ, Brent Harvey, Eddie Betts, Adam Schnieder, Jason Akermanis are a few off the top of my head that constantly improved through their years of playing footy.

I will admit by St Kilda bias but I would still take Gresham over about half of that list

I've seen all his home games, kids a jet, express pace and contrary to what KM said on what I've seen he's a very good user and I'd class his all round skill set as very good. He along with Jordan Johnston have both shown plenty as under agers and if they continue at the same trajectory IMO they're both nigh on certainties to get drafted next year.

Great to hear, thanks Bicks!

Hey KM, do you reckon there's any chance Zac Fisher will last until pick 29 for North?
Looks to me like he'd be ideal pick as a inside-outside mid with pace.

That might be around about where Fisher is looked at.

I like him as a list fit. Should be a consideration if North want an immediate mid and don't mind going for a small.
