Blues by 30pts, Near full strength squad against half strength backline

Suns to beat the chocolate out of Demons, guarantee it, if Suns loose I will leave BigFooty

Swans easy, 60pts minimum
Lions easy, 80pts minimum
Eagles over Dogs
GWS to smash Saints
Kangaroos to smash Crows
Freo to beat Port
Hawks in a thriller against the Cats

Is the lesson go blow 7 million dollars on a kid that has only played 9 games? While in those 9 games kicked 8 goals and averaged 6 disposals?

Liam was only a 3rd rd pick and Levi no way even on a fraction of that money, if Blues pulled off a deal like that I'd be questioning the boards decision. I like Tom but don't think he has earned that kind of contract unlike Jeremy at GWS

What's this Gillo? The Suns lost and you are still here?

Pretty d***head comment but don't expect much else from a channel 7 commentator

If he meant he hopes this doesn't become the norm then say that but the key thing here is this wasn't a normal situation and unless teams poach an oppositions contracted captain i can't see it becoming the norm. It was a rare and unusual situation they we are unlikely to see again for a long time.

I do love the opposition supporters that point out we offered big money to a contracted player but forget that GWS offered a contract and had discussions with a contracted captain, both dogs fans and Gws fans seem to have moved on from it, don't see why other people can't

Did we actually though?

And as I've said 1000 times before this trade was a win / win for both teams. And I hope one Day Big Boyd kicks the Doggies to an overdue flag.

As long as we're not the opposition of course!

Are you seriously going to say GWS made no contact with Griffen he just decided out of the blue that he wants to go to GWS

I don't deny what I've read where Griffen was talking to an old teammate about him not being happy and retiring.

And an off-handed "Come and play here" sparked his interest in coming, but I don't think the list manager or football manager or CEO had made any overtures or firm offers to him.

Anything I've ever heard on the situation has said as such. But, there are 2 sides to every story and I'm only reading it from the Giants side.

Before he came out and demanded a trade to GWS there would have been a offer from the club, no player requests a trade to a club that they haven't spoken to and that is fact.
A player isn't going to say I want a trade to club A then go and talk to them after that.

Not going to argue but GWS contacted him before the trade request, so they contacted him while he was contracted that is fact.

As I'm saying mate I'm only reciting the propaganda put out by our media team in the off-season, where they say the only contact Griffen had was a chat with LC and that sparked his desire to come to us, and only us.
The only contact we had afterwards was with Griffen's manager and then subsequent dealings to get the trade deal done with the Bulldogs.

That's the GWS version. I expect it to vary from the Bulldogs version. And vary greatly in the eyes of the fans who feel cheated by the inclusion of my team into the competition more than any other teams' fans.

Interesting that Brisbane Lions' board member Leigh Matthews is so critical of another AFL club landing a power forward, when industry rumours say that the same Brisbane Lions were putting together a massive offer to entice the same power forward to the Gabbba in 2016.

We'd still want another marking target like the Dogs who wanted to retain Jones in Boyd's development years.

Meh.

You'd still have those superstars Henderson and casboult

Funny to think, will matthews go on when demons sign Hogan on a mil+ year contract in a few years?

Clubs need to sign KPP to longer deals due to increase interest of free agents and building via the free agent period

Aish handy depth. Your joking right. He would walk into the dogs side next year in your top 3-5 of mids.
Partly joking. He'd be behind Libba, bont and macrae though. Wouldn't be in our best centre square. Chuck him on a wing maybe

That's why I said 3-5. Sheesh sorry for taking your post so seriously. I rate the dogs youngsters and they will be good in 2-3 years. Aish would add plenty of polish to the side and could see him hittin Boyd on the chest for years to come.

I have my doubts on aish personally. Big Norwood fan, just think he doesn't hurt teams enough.

Isn't a topic for this thread though

Dogs fans taking it a bit to heart.

I agree with Mattews, I don't want a precedent set for clubs to offer huge long term contracts for 18 year olds.
I understand the Dogs situation, and they did the best they could after their captain walked out on them, but its a dangerous precedent regardless.

Your club would have given him as much, if not more, at the end of this season. They thought they had him signed, sealed and delivered.

Liam Jones wouldn't be at Carlton if the Dogs hadn't landed Boyd.

Hard to say, I know we were planning to make a play for him end or 2015 season but doubt $7million over 7 years, not like his Buddy Franklin & Vic Clubs don't have a COLA allowance to use so highly doubt would be offering that kind of deal. Unheard of until late last year.

Weren't you leaving bigfooty?
Anyway, dogs offer wasn't the highest from Victoria. 5 clubs interested here, 3 interstate. Deal will probably net Boyd under $6m unless he wins coleman medal &/or a premiership at the dogs.
